We took our 88 yr.old mother for her first cruise and to have Christmas lunch at sea. She really enjoyed almost everything - especially the shows and music lounges and was roaming until well after her normal bedtime. Unfortunately, we missed out on Christmas lunch as the officers had decided to have it the day before on Christmas Eve as they do in Europe, and we, like many other disappointed passengers, were not informed of this change. Our table Maitre de in the dining room, when learning of our plight managed to'rustle up' some Xmas puddings from the meal we'd missed. Catrina was a 'gem'. It really took the edge off the cruise with our mother! NB, We had already booked for the 106 day World Cruise for 2018 on the same ship, otherwise would reconsider future cruises on Sea Princess. Also we had advised Princess we would need a wheelchair for my mother to board. Unfortunately, we had to wait over 1 hour in a crowded, stuffy 'waiting area' as there were not enough chairs nor handlers, causing our mother to become quite distressed. NB - We have booked a 7 nighter on Sea Princess for February as a 'practice run' for the World cruise. Read Less

We chose to cruise on the Sea Princess as it was a smaller ship for our first cruise and We had read good reviews. All our expectations have been fulfilled. The crew & staff were friendly, helpful & always with a smile. The balcony cabin was spacious & comfortable. Dining was a feast of amazing variety & quality. We were entertained day & night by concerts, comedians and carolers ( Xmas cruise). Most of the shore excursions were educational & enjoyable, especially meeting & talking to the villagers & children. The ship decor was beautifully decorated with lots of very comfy places to lounge in. You can do as much or less as you want, even room service was a treat after a long day. We have already booked another cruise, again on the Sea Princess and have told our friends of our great experience, with all positive views. Disembarkation was less hassle than embarking on the ship, but perhaps that was because it was our first venture into port check in. Loved ‘ Movies Under The Stars’ up on the pool deck, views of sunrises from our balcony, and suppers at Horizons food court after a show. Thanks Sea Princess. Read Less

The islands and colour of the water is beautiful and just so pieceful. You have to be prepared to give donations though as that is what they expect. It is such a beautiful cruise and the captain was outstanding and his staff were lovely. We really couldn’t fault any thing. We were the first princess ship to go to Conflict Island, that is absolute beautiful and the snorkeling is the best in the world (they say) If you haven’t done this one put it on your bucket list. We really enjoyed it and could properly do it again later. We did private tours on both those ports as I wanted to go to certain places which Princess didn’t cover. A great cruise could have been longer. Read Less

We have sailed with Princess for 9 voyages, 8 of which were on Sea Princess. Every cruise has been filled with friendly outgoing staff, from the Head Waiters right thru to the Cabin Stewards. We were on the ship straight away and this time our luggage was there about 5 minutes after we arrived. We have had a balcony on every cruise but 1 and would have to recommend these cabins, they are spacious with fridge and a great balcony for some private moments. The entertainment is first class with something for every one's taste. We always go with the traditional dinning, because it allows us to get to know our servers and fellow passangers at our table. Well worth considering. In all the times we have cruised with Princess we have never had one complaint about the service we receive. The staff- even though they have to deal with some INTERESTING clients-always come through with dignity and respect ( much more than I would have). We do not do many of the excursions, but have heard a lot of positive comments. We do not travel with children, but think they must be well looked after because, when we do see them on the ship, they seem to be having a great time. We have only cruised on one other line, and they do not compare to Princess. We wil continue cruising-but only with Princess- for many years to come. Read Less

The cruise on the Sea Princess was delightful. The Horizon buffet served a wide variety of food for everyone's taste and cooked food was hot. For example, one day we'd have herring, another stuffed eggs, smoked cheese, an array of different salads. Wonderful choices. The desserts were delicious, just sorry there was never any cheese cake available but that is an insignificant omission in the scheme of things. The MDR service was excellent with friendly, experienced and obliging waiters. The food was plentiful and hot. Butter and homemade rolls were on the table every night. Christmas was also a delightful experience with the ship adorned with lights and decorations. It was a lovely time to cruise on this ship as they tried very hard to make it an unforgettable Christmas. Duke, the Cruise Director, was the best we've ever had on our many cruises. Full marks to Duke for his energy, obvious love for his job and even his singing prowess. He was awesome! The desk staff were always pleasant and obliging. The entertainment was great with plentiful shows, music for all tastes including pianists, violinist/cellist. The highlight of the ports was Conflict Island. A beautiful island with the most amazing underwater sea life. The finest snorkeling we've ever experienced! Loved the fact that Sea Princess DIDN'T have piped music throughout the ship (like Celebrity Solstice did on a previous cruise) to annoy and disturb us. We loved the quiet moments on the deck, in the buffet, corridors, etc.Overall the Sea Princess cannot be faulted except for a couple of concerns. Although the ship has hand basins at the two entrances of the Horizon buffet, we noticed that too many passengers were side stepping the washing and entering alongside the queue with no staff watching. This annoyed us so much (think cross infection/norovirus) that after complaining to the chief honcho in the Horizon and getting no satisfaction, I wrote to the Duty Officer expressing our concern and saying the staff were not performing due diligence with respect to hand washing. He wrote back thanking me and thereafter they tightened up on the passengers' washing. However, it wasn't long before we again noticed passengers avoiding the queue to wash hands, and again slipping quietly into the buffet area. In addition, two wash basins out of the six ( 3 on either side) were "under maintenance" for the duration of the trip. That doesn't help the passengers who are keen to get into the buffet. Hand washing needs a serious review. A lift was also out of action throughout the cruise. Another gripe is the Horizon coffee. It is the worst example of coffee we have ever tasted - I would hesitate to even call it coffee. I guess the ship deliberately gives passengers lousy coffee (coloured water) in the hope they will buy a package! The cabins are very small, the bathroom pint sized, however all were kept in a clean condition thanks to our room attendant. Read Less

Papua New Guinea was of historical interest as my father fought there in WWII. Alotau and Rabaul were of particular interest to us, we booked shore tours off the ship and can thoroughly recommend them. And Kitava, Kiriwina and Conflict Island were all beautiful with really good snorkelling and swimming. Both embarkation and disembarkation were very easy and quick, and our cabin was ready for us straight away. We chose traditional dining so ate in the same dining room each evening with the same people. Our stewards were amazing and very attentive. The food was great, and there was always something on the menu to suit individual tastes. The shows at the Princess Theatre were varied, some were great others not so much, plenty of seating but the earlier show time filled up quickly. Movies under the Stars was very enjoyable and a nice relaxing way to spend a few hours. We really enjoyed the whirlpool spas and pool on deck 14 at the back of the ship, adults only, lots of sunlounges, and quieter than the main pools and spas. Our cruise was over Christmas so the ship was decorated beautifully, very festive. Overall a very enjoyable 11 night cruise, can definitely recommend it. Read Less

Cruise was great despite 4 floods,a fire in the library and a broken down engine in cairns. Food overall was excellant except for the stirling steakhouse. .where the meat was dreadful and the vegetables likened to prison mush. The ports of call were good but princess needs to expediate the tender service. Leaving everyone in 34 degrees plus heat for exceptionally long periods of time is not acceptable. On board facilities were an acceptable standard however the attendants would leave the male and female change room doors open at the gym. As the signage is on the door people kept getting confused. Twice i had a lady walk in on me in the shower and the sauna in the mens change room. Princess cruises are great but the shine has definitely tarnished. Entertainment was excellant and the cruise director was good at his job. The room attendant was very good and s9 obliging. You do get what you pay for and princess is a good mid range cruise line. The embarkation was a pleasant experience up until we boarded the ship as the embarkation staff were very helpful and quick in providing the cabin key and other necessary documentation. Once I got on the ship myself and all the other passengers could not go to our cabins because they were not ready. The ship is old and a little bit tired, there were numerous leaks from the overhead pipes on the promenade deck, they attempted to patch them but without much success, The public areas of the ship were generally OK. I was in Cabin 747 on Caribe Deck the cabin was very clean except for the fact there where a pair of ladies jogging pants and a top in one of the draws, The hot water in the shower didn't work for the majority of the journey. The balcony was lovely and we had a number of excellent meals on as there was a table and three chairs on it. I enjoyed being able to relax on the balcony and watch either the sun rise or set. I mainly used rooms service for breakfast, it was alway delivered on time and was exactly what I required, Fabio the room service steward alway made sure the table was set ready to start my breakfast. I dined once in the speciality restaurant (Steak House), whilst the food wand service was OK the ambiance was terrible and it is a part time restaurant made up of one half of the Horizon Buffet restaurant divided by a number of wooden screens which provide no audible or visual separation would not recommend this restaurant at all. I had anytime dining in the Traviata Dining room food was OK nothing really special staff were excellent but service was too fast for my liking. Used the Horizon restaurant a few of times the less said the better. The Pizza restaurant was OK for the no cost pizzas if you liked them drowned in cheese and the base not crispy. The you paid money for the pizza then it was very good. I suppose you get what you pay for. The bars were very good, excellent staff who were extremely attentive once they got to know you. Entertainment of the ship was inline with all the other ships I have been on. They like a curates egg good in parts but generally pretty bad especially the princess players the guy could not hold a note if his like depended upon it. They danced like they were robots whilst they smiles only went as far as they lips. My room steward (Prichiet) was excellent, nothing was too difficult, he always happy. The ports we visited were Port Charmers (Dunedin) Taieri Gorge by Train , excellent excursion, magnificent scenery , excellent commentary and good food and wine. The volunteers on the train did a very good job of looking after us. Akaroa Lovely little town, Didi the harbour nature cruise, saw a number of little penguins in the water preening their feathers, two hughes dolphin mothers with their days old babies. It was absolutely wonderful. Wellington Went on the Museum and Cable Car would not recommend this tour as it was too rushed and really didn't get to see anything Napier Went on a wine tour, enjoyed it there was a lot of wine to sample at the three wineries we went to Auckland The jet boat was fantastic and very good value for money. The disembarkation was a breeze, very well organised and executed/ Read Less

Great cruise. Have done it twice now and loved it both times. Friendly crew, great food and great ship. Sea Princess is my favorite ship. I have been on her 3 times now. Entertainment was good, (Freddy Mercury impersonator the very best), but other shows were quite good as well. Restaurant was good for Breakfast lunch and dinner although we will need to go on a diet now as we just could not turn back any of the fabulous food on offer (Challenge was accepted). Cabin was spacious and very well positioned on deck 8 which was handy to almost everywhere we wanted to go. Embarkation and de-embarkation was a breeze and reasonably quick with no hassles. This is one of the reasons we enjoy cruising over flying as it is much easier to board a ship than go through the airport hassles. All in all the Sea Princess is a very well run ship and I would definable sail on her again.. Read Less

Had a really good 3 day getaway in November 2018. Embarkation was speedy, however we were held up due to an extremely high tide that delayed boarding due to unsafe conditions. It didn't worry our group, but some people complained. Our stateroom was clean, tidy, well equipped with a very comfortable bed. The only downside was that the TV programs were played on a loop and not on demand. As a result we saw half of the same movie four times. No big deal to most people, but it was annoying nonetheless when we were chilling out in our cabin. The food was superb. We had chosen any time dining and it suited us to a 'T'. The menu was extensive and, except for the last night had a good mix of choices. The final night there were 6/7 vegetarian options for entrees and only 1 non vegetarian option. Once again no real big deal, but perhaps with a bit more planning they could have evened out the choices somewhat. The entertainment options we chose to attend were all enjoyable and professionally and competently performed. On a brighter note they finally had a funny comedian, instead of the unfunny hack on our previous two cruises. The bars, for the most part, provided prompt and efficient service. We found all the prices to be reasonable. As it was only a 3 day cruise there were no shore excursions. Read Less
