Lots of Annoyances

Review for a Africa Cruise on Nautica

I paid $20,000 for this trip. What I got was 1. An extremely tiny room 2. An RV sized bathroom 3. A prepaid beer/wine program at over $500 that would not provide me with more than one drink at a time because my wife (not on the program) might take a sip. This is both rude and childish. 4. Room service with a scowl. 5. Only a tiny area in the onboard store featuring notions and ...

We have been cruising since 1993 and this was our first time with Oceania - choosing it for the itinerary. Before we ever left home there was confusion. Alarming notifications from Oceania stating that no-one would allow to board unless they had the yellow fever vaccination. With subsequent conversations with fellow passengers - this is contrary to WHO Guidelines and Embassy stipulations. ...

First Cruise on an R Class Ship

This is our first cruise on an R-class ship. Our previous cruises were on the larger O-class. Pre-cruise communications from Oceania were abysmal. A lot of uncertainties and confusion with regards to things like yellow fever vaccination, Mozambique visa, the special discounted $99 pre-cruise tours, etc. And different travel agents have different and conflicting information from ...

Discovering South Africa

Review for a Africa Cruise on Nautica

When I discovered the cruise in June 2015 for nov/dec 2015 around South Africa and a reasonable rate, I did not hesitate , certainly that a few years ago we were already on the Nautica and for once there is an interesting program for this area. If fact after dep from Cape Town we went to Walvis Bay Namibia (2days) and then Port Elisabeth, East London, Durban (2d), Maputo (former Lorenço Marques) ...

First Oceania Cruise!

This is a very personal view of the cruise based on our previous experiences. This cruise ship is very smart. Very well looked after and spotless clean. Posh. Upper class. Pretentious. It seemed to me that it was trying very hard to be something it is not. Everything is very, very expensive. For instance: Bus shuttle from port to airport. $109. (Taxi. $20)! Small bottle beer. 330ml. ...

Comfortable but Disappointing Cruise

Review for a Africa Cruise on Nautica

The fun of this one month cruise was destroyed by the fact that the ship missed 4 ports of the 19 included in the itinerary, including Maldives, due to the declaration of the State of Emergency in the eve of our arrival (but without any evacuation of the thousands of the tourists in the country) and the most beautiful of the Seychelles islands, La Digue and Praslin, according to the captain ...

Don't waste your $ on a Penthouse

For our 5th cruise on Oceania we were really excited about the Dubai to Cape Town itinerary. Decided to upgrade to a Penthouse due to the length of the cruise - what a mistake!! Noise from the Terrace Café and kitchen/dish washing area directly above us was constant from before breakfast to 1am to 2am at night. Only after I went upstairs at 1:15am and personally observed the staff banging dishes, ...

Excellent in Every Way!

We booked this cruise about 4 weeks before departure. I was disappointed at first that I wasn't able to get a room with a balcony but our ocean view room was perfect and I'm glad we didn't spend the extra money! Everything about this trip was fantastic. We have been on several cruises, from small to large, and this was by far our favorite. From the accommodations to the food to the staff ...

Oceania Nautica a Good Choice!

This was our first time on Oceania line (which does not appear to have a very high profile in Australia it seems - perhaps it will change once NCL open their own office here rather than an agency) and overall we were very happy with the quality of décor, food, etc. The ratio of staff to guests was very high and overall the experience was excellent, with very good quality dining, either formal ...

Only Compares with Regent on Food

Chose this cruise simply because of the itinerary. The idea of 18% added on to all purchases is anathema to us but we decided we would not purchase anything that involved this charge. Embarkation was quick with baggage being taken from you as you entered into the jetty marque. Usual pettiness regarding security, I believe this is now a self perpetuating industry as you come across it ...
