We were on Musical 4 day cruise to Mozambique (Portuguese Island & Pomene) from Durban (26-30 November 2018). What an "exhilarating experience" worth sharing. The level of professional service displayed by staff members (courtesy, respect, helpfulness, welcoming attitude...) is commendable. Food was mouth watering and in abandon efforts. Cabin were clean and kept in mint condition. With limited facilities on board (jacuzzi), It is worth mentioning that a need exist to exercise control over the use of facilities for the benefits of all. We observed some of the guest monopolizing the jacuzzi by spending hours (almost the whole day) to the excision of others. As a suggestion, usage of jacuzzi to be limited to an hour to enable others to enjoy the facility. A need exist to frequently service men's restroom in the entertainment area (Deck 13) as high volume usage compromise cleanliness standards Staff to manage dinning queues at Deck 13 restaurants especially during buffet times. In the interest of all guests MSC checking in and security procedures is necessary and embraced. Thanks to the Captain and crew for professional handling of the craft during rough sea. We felt safe as ever. I've already have people in mind to invite to the next cruise. Joe-Man-Joe Read Less

It was a launch of the musica and msc invited us. The embarkation process was very long and tedious. So to be honest that was the down fall as we had to wait for hours on hours before we could be onboard. which meant we missed some time and were tired when boarding. However when we were on board it was quicker and the buffet lunch was ready however that also was limited the menu on offer was not that great. I have been on a cruise before that i paid for on the sinfonia and the menu was great we were spoilt for choice so i don't know what to tell my clients if that was because we were not fully paying customers or what. The dinner menu was great also the service was limited. But the entertainment was great over all the theme of the ship is music and that is true. Read Less

The main reason for our cruise was to explore the new ship, as we traveled on the SINFONIA several times, including Two South and Two North Bound Cruises. After this local cruise we still prefer the Grand Voyages of 24 days, to or from Italy, As this was the first cruise of 2018/2019 season in South Africa we were very disappointed in some areas. The ship itself is much bigger and more spacious than the SINFONIA with a 5 star rating. Although we felt with the size of the ship and the capacity of passengers that the cruise was Overcrowded, especially during meal times, breakfast, lunch and dinner in the open buffet area. There were always long ques waiting to get to the food stations. This caused that people try to jump the ques and try to squeeze in, and that caused unhappiness among most of the passengers!!!!!!. Therefore the rating on the dining was 3, although the food was a 4 rating. Shore Excursions: Cant t say much as the excursions to the Portuguese Islands were cancelled due to strikes on the island. We just come back of MSC Musica, food in buffet, was always cold and in Restaurant,! Food is not at all good quality like other shops,! Can you believe they even shut couple bars early so the crew can have there parties, although ther itineraries was good, on where we went, there theme parties was good, some staff was friendly, some just tried to avoid serving you, and appear to have long faces,! The ship was full of Germans,, about 80%, I never had a problem, but they appeared to have problem with the English, as there were fights on ship ,! mSC did not even care,,,,! Although MSC is cheap cruise, it’s a shame there food was always cold and seam to only cater for europeons, & not international like other ships,,,,,,,we spent a month on board the ship, and will never travel with MSC again,, it’s shame but to think about it more, although MSC is Italian ship, they did seam to cater more for the German crowd, & not for the English speaking people, there also seamed to be a lot people in there 80s on ship,,,also,, but still the food should not be cold or Luke warm,, soaps tasted like gravy, I cold go on for ever,!the ship was just rubbish, Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, embarking in Venice and sailing through the Suez Canal, disembarking in Durban Sth Africa. There was a long 7 days at sea and unlike other cruises we have been on, there were very few interesting activities to keep the passengers occupied. They seemed to think everyone would just want to lay by the swimming pool, which many of the European passengers seemed to want to do. Coming from Australia, we get plenty of sun/pool time every year so we like do do other things apart from sunbathing and sitting by a tiny pool. Many people claimed their sun lounge each morning with a towel and book and then disappeared for hours so no-one else could use the sun lounge. The entertainment was 2nd rate rubbish, apart from one or two production numbers with some decent dancers and the food in the dining room was almost inedible. Something was very wrong in that kitchen and the executive chef not capable of feeding so many passengers with top quality food. The library was a joke with very few English language books and no reference or non-fiction books or even an atlas. There were very few outdoor dining areas to enjoy a meal without fighting for a table. Read Less

We were delighted to find that the MSC Musica was relocating from the Med to South Africa, and booked Venice to Durban (24 days) as the conclusion of a long trip away from home in South Africa. By way of summary, our experience ran along these lines: 1 - The web site is a monster and needs some serious attention from someone who understands UX ('User Experience' - the trending approach to web design today?). 2 - The four options (Bella, Fantastica, Aurea and Club) have preset options none of which really suited us. We chose Fantastica because it assured us we would get the best cabin in the category (see 4 below!). That did NOT work! 3 - Embarkation in Venice involved a LONG walk, in the blazing sun, from the Venice 'People Mover' (which links the city to the port) to the ship. Once we were in the shade it took about an hour (long queues) and it would have been smarter to arrive much closer to the deadline, when there were no queues. 4 - The cabin (11195) was a disappointment. We chose inside because we are happy not to have views or balconies, but we got one of the inside cabins with BUNKS. They are turned up to the wall, but there is inadequate space to get into bed standing upright; the solution was to get into bed by crawling up from the bottom. Further, there is NO SEATING - just a padded box that sits under the very small dressing table. I see on the deck plan some of the inside cabins have black blobs - because ours has four I guess that means it sleeps four people? Pity there is no legend to explain that! 5 - Hence, we found that MSC have a problem with information management. I had two reasons to request on board that Reception assist me: first, I was listed as 'Mr' (my correct title is 'Dr' or 'Prof', as indicated at booking time) and it ought to be SO easy to correct these small things; 'they' were simply not interested. The other issue was with the door to the Library, which made a dreadful screeching sound every time it was opened. The library should be a sanctuary of peace and quiet, but it was horrible for that one reason (actually, there were VERY few books, which caused people to come in and noisily discuss how shocking it was to find that there were no books to read - no reference books such as atlases and travel guides, only a selection of fiction, in several languages, that quickly reduced as more than 3000 'guests' helped themselves). 6 - Previously we have cruised with no internet, and as I had work to do I was delighted to see that continuous internet is offered, and although the log on was somewhat convoluted it worked most of the time. But forget the service that you might get at home, this was SLOW and in 24 days I used about 3Gbytes, that cost me 95 Euros. Some people had bought a cheaper package that, astonishingly, did NOT allow access to email services. 7 - There is a 'CyberCafe' but nobody in attendance to assist with problems. The young man sitting there - confusingly - was the Voyager Club representative. His response to any assistance with the cybercafe (that he was sitting right in the middle of) was abrupt almost to the point of rudeness. I guess we all have bad days ... I took my laptop to the cybercafe to try and get faster internet (I think that worked) but there are NO power outlets there, just standardised screens with a keyboard, a mouse and a small USB accessory for your memory stick or whatever you have. 8 - There were some glitches with the excursions. On the catamaran trip (Mauritious) two passengers were sent to the wrong coach, and so the whole remaining party of 23 had to sit or stand on the catamaran for more than an hour, with only partial shade. When the late-comers arrived, one of the sun-drenched (German) passengers asked - rudely and without any evidence - that the late-comers should apologise; well, they were from Australia and the anglo-saxon expletives and tears flowed freely. I mention this because it is the sort of incident that should be managed by the cruise staff, and I would have expected some apology from them. As it was, it took half of the day for the tempers to cool down and it was the fellow-passengers who did more to manage the situation than the 'staff'. Having said all that, what was good? The entertainment was excellent, although it was inevitable that over 24 days the song and dance crew, the acrobats and the classical musicians had to include some repetition. Not really a problem. We enjoyed the Queen (Freddie Mercury) entertainment so much we watched it twice (there are early and late shows, for the later and earlier sittings in the restaurants. The food in the restaurants was a little variable - we had just one main dish that was inedible and had to go back to the kitchen, but the starters and deserts were excellent. Portions were modest, and that suited us perfectly! The cafeteria was, well, rather like a cafeteria. The cabin and restaurant staff were excellent. The deal is that MSC add 10 euros per person every day for service (and that is in addition to the 15% surcharge on drinks from the bar), and so we were wondering how much of our 480 Euros (about one third of our 'ticket' price!!) would go to the front-of-house workers, and how much gets put into the slush fund. At the desk they admitted that the 'standard' 10 euros per day per passenger was actually optional, and I 'renegotiated' it. One of our fellow passengers told us that he went to reception on the FIRST day to tell them that he did not agree, and did not want to pay, and they agreed that it was at his discretion. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise with MSC, and met lots of people from different countries. I would love to make the following comments however:- Your TV programs need an upgrade. Take an example from Emirates airlines. A varity of programs for all ages. You collect money in Euros and pay staff in U.S Dollars. Why? Haloween is promoted but not Christianity. Captain conducts christian marriages and majority of people on cruises are christians. I held two christian services on board which was well attended. I complained about cold milk instead of Hot milk for coffee in buffet lounges. Excursions should be included in tarrif. Services charges cost me approximately R15,000.00 in four trips. This should not be charged. Whilst gymnasium was available, why not sauna? Passengers had flu and was transmitted via air con to most cabins. Why should I pay for water? This should be included in the tariff. You promote gambling and alcohol but not word of God. The cost of photographs are astronomical. I am SouthAfrican and as you are aware the Rand is at its weakest. Read Less
