Not everything about this cruise was abjectly awful. The food and service in Pinnacle Grill was good. Annette, who led the America's Test Kitchen demos, was very good. The itinerary was fairly rare. But a lot of stuff went wrong. Aside from Pinnacle Grill, the food was fit for a King. As in "Here King! Here boy! Good boy!" Food is subjective but food temperature and consistency are not. And ...

Note, this May 25, 2019 HA Rotterdam sailing (May 25 to June 8, 2019), was a 14 day Norway cruise, not 21 days. We booked this to see the fjords, scenery, certain tours, and go beyond the Arctic Circle to the most northerly point in Europe. There were two key port downgrades due to tender maintenance issues...completely within HA control, and either an example of poor maintenance or an ...

My wife and I were on the Rotterdam for 55 day in 2015 and liked it very much. The ship is very different now. There appeared to be a reduction in staff that resulted in frequent poor service in the Lido and often poor service in the main dinning room. Seldom refills in the Lido and two and a half hours in the main dinning room. The employees in the main dinning room worked hard but there ...

Outdated décor, but clean. Cabin was fine, except for several problems - a broken balcony door lock, missing remote control, and the granddaddy of them all - the shower. (a broken faucet with scalding water which couldn't be turn off - and alerted the fire department, who came pounding on the door). I made 2 attempts, with the same results - so went without for 2 weeks! They suggested I use ...

We chose this cruise because we were traveling with my elderly father. We knew Holland America typically caters activities and meals to the more mature crowd, so we thought it would be a good fit. My father enjoyed his cruise. But we had to work at it. Starting with positives.... Holland America has disembarkation and customs down to a science. I would give this a high five star rating. ...

Eleven members of my family took this cruise to Central America/Mexico. Through no fault of HAL, the Tampa cruise port was closed by fog on the opening day of our cruise. The ship could not get into port all day, so we weren’t allowed to come to the port until 9:30 the first night. We finally got into our room around 11:00 that night. Each traveler received a $50 credit for their inconvenience. ...

we took this for the convenience of the Port of Tampa, having done several HA in the past knew Its reputation for being a stable product. The ship is very nice layed out well with lots of" nooks and crannies" to read in or watch the sea. We liked the feel of the ship and the ease of getting around. The Rotterdam has a lot going for it in its staff and service, it is however, lacking to much for ...

The Rotterdam is a fine way to get from Point A to Point B but that's about it. They have done away with sail-aways and the onboard entertainment and activities were below average and repetitive. A three week December Caribbean cruise with no holiday/Christmas event or regional entertainment seems cheap and unimaginative. Thankfully, we like to walk the teak deck and read. We used the well-stocked ...

The Rotterdam is for you if---- 1. You like old ships in disrepair with very outdated furnishings in the public areas, with rusted over window frames, distasteful outdated decor of poor replicas of Chinese artifacts that had no theme to them of any kind. 2. if you like very mediocre entertainment in the theater, with a theater with insufficient capacity requiring that you get there at least ...

Considering the cruise options we have these days - Holland America's boat was old and looked like it. We traveled with a group of 26... they separated our group and we could not even sit near each other during out dining time. We paid for an on board wine tasting while at sea, but it turned out to be a big sales pitch for the wine packages! You don't even get soda complimentary.... They ...
