Before cruise started we stayed in Venice for 2 nights. Was our 2nd stay in Venice.. So this time we walked basicly all the alleys. In cruise we booked some of msc excursions. We really enjoyed. Especially the dead sea. Will definitely visit there again. If the 3 islands we visited I enjoyed Réunion the most. Very clean and organized setup. We had a great time. Will definetly recommend to my friends. This is really a relaxing cruise. See old cruising friends again. Experience new cities. Cost effecient. Lots of activities. Never a dull moment. The only problem was, because of the length of the cruise many people became sick(sneasing&couthing). Further on cruise was excellent. There was lots of South African entertainment & artists that we really enjoyed. What was annoying was all the different languages that was use, some was not necessary. Food was great. Overall a great experience. Cannot wait for our next cruise. Read Less

I generally enjoyed our time on the MSC sinfonia for our honeymoon. The food and service were very good, and I liked the list of locations that we were going to. However, there was so little time to spend in many of the ports of call, and I would recommend letting guests know if stairs or other options are available in lieu of cable cars, as we waited an hour and a half for one, and we got in line right after our excursion ended. The food in the restaurants was great, but the lunch buffet could have used a better selection. Our waiters and room attendants, Eka, Wiguna, and Luciano, were very nice and professional, and did a great job. As part of the aurea experience, I enjoyed the free massage, unlimited drinks, and priority embarkation and disembarkation. The excursions were interesting and relatively well organized. I would cruise with msc again, they are a great value for the price paid. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it would have been my third with MSC. I was very impressed with the two previous cruises therefore I invited family with me on this Cruise. I was very very disappointed. It was by far the least impressive and the itenary was misleading. It stated ONE day at sea but when we boarded we realised it was two. The days at sea the Coffee bar only opened at 18h00 and only one coffee bar was not enough for all those people. The service at the Coffee bar was also very slow as there was only one guy behind the counter doing all the coffees. The service was very friendly though. The time for excursions at Mykonos was far too short and two excursions at two different places were just too much! The family who accompanied me on the trip don’t want to do another cruise ever again. My previous experiences still gives me the benefit of the doubt therefore maybe in future I will try it again? Read Less

Sinfonia is an older ship and it shows. Décor is dated and some areas are not large enough for the capacity (theatre, buffet). As Australian cruisers, we found the atmosphere to be lacking compared with our experiences cruising closer to home which probably reflects more on the high proportion of European passengers than the ship itself. Room was pretty standard. Well designed, plenty of storage. Shower was very small, with a curtain which sticks to you. Our cabin (8147) seemed to have water under the bathroom floor (maybe a water proofing issue?), which meant that you could hear water when you walked on it. Entertainment we found to be lacking. Really nothing in the way of program through the day other than pool deck games. No destination briefings. At night there was music in a most of the bars. We enjoyed the piano/guitar duo in the Buddha Bar which was a bit more upbeat. Food was 6.5/10. Buffet was incredibly busy for every meal. We ate most breakfasts and lunches there, but gave up on eating inside and took a plate out to the pool deck. Food was OK. We ate dinners in the dining room with our table of English-speakers. Service was good, and food was too. Shows – we attended only 2 out of 7 nights and found them to be quite average compared to other (less expensive) cruise lines. Theatre was very poorly designed with rows doubled up which obscured half of the seats. First show was 8:15pm which was almost impossible to get to from a 7:00pm dinner sitting, so we preferred to enjoy our dinner and skip the show. Embarkation was super easy, no problems, we were on quickly (before our allocated time). Bags also made it to the room ahead of schedule. Disembarkation was also very smooth. We requested to disembark earlier than our designated timeslot to make a train and this was arranged without hesitation. We used the gym a couple of times. It was pretty basic, and cardio equipment was busy the mornings we were there. Pool was pretty much always busy! There were lots of lunges, but as usual, people place towels at dawn and were never seen again. Smoke wafted across half of the pool. Only 1 pool and multiple spas. We had a couple of swims. Deck was very slippery in flip-flops. Service was over-worked as seems to be the case on most cruises these days. We bought the drink package which seemed to work out as good value when you considered alcoholic drinks, water, coffee, and ice cream were included. If we could find waiter service, this was fairly straight forward, but the process to get service at the bar was not clear and was not explained. Sometimes you could order from a barman, but more often you had to order from a waiter to the side of the bar who would then put a docket on the bar (or give you a copy), and you would wait until the barman saw your docket (while he/she might be also taking orders from the bar). Occasionally you would end up with 2 drinks as more than 1 bar man had picked up our docket and made our drinks. Shout out to Jekson and Juli from Indonesia who were excellent in the Manhattan Bar. As Aussies, we found the MSC-way of cruising to be quite different to what we had experienced previously. It's very European (all announcements in 5 languages), and overall, from entertainment to shopping, Europeans cruise differently to Australians. We were lucky to find some English-speakers on board, but we were definitely the minority. We were aware of this before we booked, but I think we underestimated the reality. Read Less

Value for money! very well organised and very good information about the cruise and activities. friendly helpful staff, excellent choice of food at the buffets and very good service at the sit down dinners. We would like to make special mention of Rachelle our very friendly and helpful waitress! Very good choice of activities and entertainment. Excellent shows with very good talent. Lovely bars and dancing opportunities even the dance classes were good fun with professional teaching.we particularly enjoyed the piano playing of Roelof in the Le Barougue coffee shop. Although we could only afford an inside cabin it was very nice and comfortable and always clean. We are South Africans and our money dont do well in Europe against the Euro. Very good communication about the next days activities by way of the newsletter. Very good security at embarkation and disembarkation, very well organised and done in a very speedy way. Very friendly staff and we would like to make special mention of Jean Pierre and Frik. We did some of the shore excursions but mostly preferred to do our own thing which was most enjoyable. We chose this cruise for its affordability and itinerary! Read Less

We flew from Washington DC into Marco Polo airport at 1100 am and went straight to the ship the day of the cruise. Tip, take the bus for 8 euro a person from Marco Polo to Venice and 1.50 euro a person for the ppl mover from the Venice bus stop to the cruise port ....save your money as the cabs and water taxi prices are high (unless you have 4 ppl for a taxi or if you packed many bags) and the bus and ppl mover are convenient and easy! Embarkation was easy....have your cruise docs printed and your passports ready. Once checked in you have to go to a machine to activate your room key. This ship is a smaller ship, we had 4 people to an ocean view room. This was our 16th cruise and we met with family, for a total of 9 ppl in the group. We typically get two connected balcony rooms to separate us and the kids but there were no balcony rooms available and we received an incredible deal on the one room with a military discount. The ports were the most important to us so we went with it. Dining is geared toward the European palate but they did have burgers, hot dogs, fries, and pizza for the kids. Note that cruisers that book from the US and Canada receive the Fantastica package which gives you 12 drinks for each person in the cabin....we found this to be plenty as we ported for many days and enjoyed drinks in town. Entertainment was mostly in Italian but the crew did try to include all and the service personnel also did a decent job (I have had more attentive service on other cruise lines). Ports, we choose this cruise for the ports. We did not book anything through the ship and decided to explore on our own. Split was the first stop and we had ample time to walk the city and take pics. Croatia is clean and cheap! Santorini was a disappointment....if you book through the ship you get off the ship first....everyone else has to obtain a disembarkation number from the excursion desk for free the day before the stop. Upon arrival in Santorini everyone queues up and waits to get off the ship based on the number you obtained, we were number 11 and our time was 9:15-9:30 am. The number calling did not start until about 9:30 with number 1! Needless to say we did not get off the ship until about 10:30 and that is because we just left and walked down to disembark. We took the water ferry to Oia (15 euro per person and half for kids) and had 1 hour to RUN through Santorini before we had to get back to the last bus back to Oia at 1200 (last bus through the ferry company). Mykonos was a late night stop and we did ferry over (the cruise ship charges to ferry over, 9 euro per person), had dinner, took pics, ate street food, and shopped. Dubrovnik was a bus ride into town (the ship charged 14 euro per person into town and back) and we took a leisurely walk through the old town, again cheap and clean. Warning.....most places in Croatia do but there are places that do not accept euro! Last stop was Ancona and we walked 30 mins through town to the local beach. Very quiet area and the rocky beach area was packed with local families. Overall we found Europe to be very clean and we were able to get a taste of each city....we definitely want to go back to Mykonos and Dubrovnik for a longer period of time! Read Less

We chose the Cruise due to its destinations. Embarkation was very smooth but as soon as we got on board, there were the staff, very friendly, waiting to sell you things..the friendliness, I'm afraid only really came when then we're looking for tips !! I have to say, we were upgraded to a balcony suite which we cannot fault. The swimming pool area was overcrowded, not enough sun beds and getting a drink at the bar was a nightmare, the staff moved around like they were zombies and had no idea of who they were serving or who wasnext. The big thing for me was that there wasn't any "do your own laundry" area. There was a service but it cost 4.50 euros per item to iron. Now, we docked in Venice and purchased a travel iron, only to get back to the ship and it was confiscated...we were treated like criminals, not told why and it just taken from us, a piece of paper thrown at us about where it was going...we didn't understand really and when we challenged them, security turned up mob handed. To be fair, this was through the security checks coming on to the ship, so how much of the ship had to do with it, i don't know.. but we later found out that irons and hair straighteners are not allowed in the cabins....so if we had put an iron in our case, would they have known...I don't think so as my straighteners stayed with me all week. So after several non conclusive attempts at getting our iron back, we were told to go to the gangplank on our day of departure and it would be there. Well, needless to say nowhere to be seen. Worse was that the Very handsome man checking us off the boat, who never smiled and had been grumpy before, shouted at us and told us it was off the ship in security and that, HE KNEW THIS!! So off we went only to be told this wasn't case. Anyway after getting back on the ship, no one could tell us where it was and we had to leave without it. So it's not so much about the iron, it's the fact that considering what we paid, for the cruise,, it was the attitude of the staff, the fact the food was just ok, the inability to find restaurants open when we fancied (which is the whole point). So we had a good room, by luck and saw some lovely places but MSC NEED TO UP THEIR GAME,,,, Read Less

This was our family's first ever cruise. We choose this particular one because of affordability and itinerary, I particularly wanted to visit Venice, Santorini and Mykonos. We were two parents and two teenage boys. First the pros: all the ship personnel was very friendly, nice and helpful. Embarkation in Venice was very smooth. Our luggage arrived later, but in time to change for dinner. We had Fantastica Inside Stateroom package. The cabin was clean, comfortable with enough cabinets, except for the shower in the bathroom, which was awfully small. The dinners at the Il Galeone restaurant were all good, we liked the food and our two servers. We choose second seating, which was fairly late at 21:30 and we had the 8 person table all to ourselves. Disembarkation was also smooth, we were short on time to get to the airport and purchased transfer from the ship, and it went very fast, we got to the airport right on time. The Venice airport is terrible but this is another story. We did not participate in many activities on ship, never went to the shows but watched couple of entertaining mini shows at the Manhattan bar at night and liked them. I purchased a Thermal suite access to the spa package and I went there every day. The thermal area was nice and clean, very few people there and I used a shower there rather than in my stateroom, because it was more spacious. I had two massage sessions at the spa and both were very good.My teenage kids never used teenage club r participated in any kids activities except playing basketball and mini golf. The negatives are pretty much same as everyone else says: ship facilities are not big enough to accomodate all passengers. It's impossible to find a table at the buffet, and all tables are quite dirty despite waiters efforts and sticky. There are no paper napkins to wipe the table! I expected to have a soda machine in the buffet but no, the only drinks available were terrible coffee, such bad coffee you don't find anywhere in Italy btw, and water. The buffet closes practically half hour before closing time and you can’t get anything if you want to wait out the stampede. Pizza was very good at snack bars but it was awfully hot too sit there and not many tables either. The pools on the ship are too small and were always overcrowded. My kids used the pool once, I have not used it at all. There was shortage of launchers as well. The port times are very short and crammed. We did not buy any excursions because we wanted to explore on our own. Santorini visit was awfully short. Ship came in at 7 am but we only got out at quarter past 9. The last tender back was at 2. We barely had time to get cable car up, to find and get on bus to Oia village, spent there maybe 30 minutes and had to rush back. By the time we got to cable car the line to go down was huge, and people from our ship were walking down the donkey path. We did walk too and it was not pleasant. It took 30 minutes to get down in extreme heat, the donkeys were running up and down, and you have to jump of the way. The last tender left at 2:30 instead of 2 fortunately, and we were last people to get on it, so we barely made it. I could not walk for 2 days after this since my leg muscles were aching terribly after the 650 something stairs down. But the worst was that Mykonos port was on the same day! We left Santorini at 3 and we arrived to Mykonos at 8 pm. It got dark and we could not see anything except the shops and restaurants. I was hoping to see windmills and take a ride to Delos but of course could not do it in the dark. So these were two big disappointments. Next time we will look at itinerary closely and make sure we have more time at ports, but it was not possible with MSC. Dubrovnik was interesting city. We did not take ship shuttle because you could take a taxi and pay same e13 for 4 people as for each person on a shuttle. We asked taxi driver to take us around and we had a nice excursion for 4 for e50 instead of paying ship excursion fees. I believe the itinerary was crammed on purpose to make people buy the ship excursions. However I spoke with some passengers who did excursions in Santorini and they complained that they did not have enough time to see anything and take pictures either. Ports of Split and Ancona were nothing special and quite boring. So all in all I gave this cruise 1 star because it was very disappointing and misleading in terms of ports. Next cruise will be with different company for sure. Read Less

We did lots of research and compared prices between NCL, Royal Caribbean... MSC offered the lowest in price. the same amount of money we can get a balcony room instead a inside room with other company. so we went ahead booked with MSC Sinfonia. we arrived Venice by train at 11:30am . about 10 minutes walk and found the people mover station. it took us at least 20 minutes stand in line to buy ticket for 5 minutes train ride.. got off the train. we walked 15 minutes to arrived the embarkation area. ( I think there free shuttle bus available, but the bus stop is at a open area, that means you have stand under the sun for unknown time for the bus to arrive. so almost all people rather to just walk.) embarkation line wasn't too bad at the time. it took about 30 minutes. and finally we enter the ship at around 2 pm. our balcony state room is pretty small. I think the balcony room interior size is the same of the inside rooms, except you have a small balcony. room was dated but looks clean. bath towel and pool towel are very old and rough, bedding and pillow was OK. carpets are very old and no way you will feel clean to walk without slipper... Dinner, food at restaurant was in very nice presentation. but nothing taste good. we can't finish our plate every night although its very small portion. buffet has more food to choice. but always too busy and short handed. breakfast serve same kinds of tasteless food every morning. free coffee taste really bad, but if you pay to order cappuccino it will take very long time. and they always make you share table with different groups people every morning... they have total 5 night shows out of 7 nights. the shows are the part we enjoyed the most. we have to seen many Vegas show. I would say their show can compare with that. we call it big show in a small stage... we have 2 sea days, the sea day after we visit Mykonos is 36 hours long on sea. which is too long and too boring. no activates that we enjoy to do. no good food or snacks during the sea day...we didn't join any excursions, their overpriced and the ports that we are going are very easy to go around, just need to do so research and you can save hundreds of dollars.... Split, as soon as you walk out the port, you will see public flex bus station, we got bus tickets cost $10 for 3 peoples, 30 minutes bus ride to Trogir. spent 2 hours there and had a very nice seafood lunch. and other bus ride back to split. walk around the downtown area. the tourist area is very close to the port. only 15 minutes walk to the ship... next port Santorini, disembarkation will be carried out by tender boat form ship to the shore. most people joined excursion since very short time (7 hours) at this port. I agreed that if you want to see more or if you move slower due to bringing kids or seniors. then you should join excursions. but you have to book a little earlier because they can be sold out. another advantage joining excursions is you will have priority to get out the ship to start your tour early. For those whose doesn't want to join tours like us.. pick up your tender boat ticket as early as you can, they start passing tender boat ticket at 8 Am on the sea day before you arrived Santorini. my husband set up alarm clock and we got group 4 ticket. in the morning, the ship arrived at 7 AM. we were the first cruise ship arrived Santorini. we are schedule to leave the ship at 8:30 with group 4 ticket. people who joined excursions are start leaving at 7:15. we didn't get to the tender boat until 9:15am. and we arrived the short at 9:30. as soon as you arrived the short. you will have 3 transportation options to see the town. the cable car. donkey, speedboat to oia. we paid 15 eu per person took speedboat to oia. this was also including return bus to downtown fira town. we arrived oia at before 10 am. walk around, spent 2 hours there. by 11:30, we saw thousands of people with short excursions started to walk into Oia. that's also because many other cruise ship are arrived. we catch the 12 pm bus to fira. spent about 1 hour there, then took cable car back to the shore where we catch the tender boat back to the cruise. the last tender boat to the ship is 2 pm. so it was very limited time to spent at the place. but its was good enough to see around... Mykonos, many people complaints we arrived at night time. this is a party city where has lots of shops, bars, restaurants open until late night, after a few busy walking in hot days, we were very appreciated to have nice cool night out, not much to see here. but very relax...after Mykonos, the sea day was very long and very boring.... 36 hours on sea. ..Dubrovinik, the ship offered 13 eu per person round trip shuttle bus to old town, about 15 minutes ride. if your group has 3 to 4 peoples, it will be cheaper taking taxi which plenty of them waiting at the port.... Ancona, we just walk around the town and walked about 30 minutes to see the beach. nice to see a small town in Italy. Disembarkation day at Venice, too early to get force out the ship, we have to wake up at 6:30 in the morning to be able to leave the ship at the scheduled time. conclusion, we didn't pay premium price to the cruise, so of course not everything upscale. we get to see the places that we want to see. hope this review help you design your vacations.
