Have cruised on MSC Splendida twice, both in Yacht Club, and being impressed by the good service in Europe I haste to return to see what's new as this ship is now deployed in China. There is not much changes in the hartdware part, less Chinese than competitor ships. Most staff remain, particularly the good butlers. Heard that about 20% of staff are Chinese speaking and this helps to keep the cruise experience in a traditional shape although all passengers are Chinese and announcements are in Chinese. Great Yacht Club service remains, really helpful butlers better than the fake butlers on Silversea for example. Newspaper at choice is delivered in an original photofax format. Free minibar and drinks. Yacht Club is of course a 'ship with in ship' facility with a lot of private, never congested spaces. The service is so attentive that one is escorted to cabin and on disembarkation, even to stateroom when back from excursion. There are only less than 200 YC passengers. The YC restaurant, L'Olivio was good in Europe and is now even better in China. Not only with additional Chinese dishes, real Chinese Chinese food, not American Chinese as on many ships. In 4 days we had twice lobster, and steak is served differently each occasion. Other delicacies include sucking pig and abalone. Best cuisine, perhaps even better than the declining and cost cutting Silversea. Production shows each and every night, very entertaining. Good singers too. This is a 4-day cruise going only to Fukuoka in Japan, but the ship itself is my and possibly everyone's destination. There were almost 8 hours on shore. Alas, the 4-night trip turned out to be 5-night due to typhoon in Shanghai, but everyone is happy. MSC has taken out insurance for every passenger and they can claim hotel or flight change costs if applicable. Passengers are offered free internet for one day to manage travel matters. The additional day is of course free, as was also the waived service charge. No one can complain. Yacht Club members are offered free limosine transfer, in good cars and good service. As an old MSC customers in Europe I am happy with this in fact upgraded service. I have reason to believe that MSC in China manages better than their competitors such as Princess. Read Less

By far the worst cruise we have been on.Dubai to Yokohama Have done over 20 .cruises Cabin never cleaned properly. The frill round the bed was all ripped and hanging off.The settee was broken and to be taken away and repaired. This was before the cruise started The balcony door frame collapsed and had to be repaired on 4 occasions. The last it took 3 days to fix.Had to stuff towels in the gaps to stop the wind coming in. Had to go to reception and request some body in authority come back with us to our cabin and see for them self's how serious our balcony door had become.Eventually the house keeper came.On seeing the door she couldn't believe we had been living like this for 3 days. Took some very good photograths Totally unacceptable to expect guest to have to put up with this. Food in the buffet in the evening was slop. What was left over from lunch was made in to curry or some kind casserole I'm being kind calling it that. Never known beef so tough couldn't even cut it with a knife. Even charged for tea or coffee in the dining rooms Reception over run with complaints Just shows what type of company they are wrote them a letter not even had the courtesy to reply. Entertainment rubbish. Hygiene throughout the ship was hopeless. No point having lifeboat drill because the way the very rude guests barged and shoved there way around the ship it would be free for all. They don't believe in queing straight to the front at all cost. Would not recommend this outfit to my my worst energy. Going ashore when the ship docked was a complete joke can you imagine 3000 people trying to get off at once No organisation at all. Would love somebody from MSC to read this review but alas they won't. Never Never again. Read Less

The review made earlier on the exact cruise is spot on, its as if the person has taken the words out of my mouth. We chose the cruise because of a once in a lifetime ports of call. Believe me it was once in a lifetime...…….the ship itself was lovely and clean, the food was atrocious, cold or tepid, we never saw any chefs using a thermometer to test the so called hot food. A complaint was made to the Matr'e De several times about the food, he was more interested in charming the ladies. The entertainment was non existent. One of the ports (Singapore) there were lots of students types getting on the ship to work, that evening we ordered a tonic water, it must of taken 20 minutes in the end we had to ask another waiter. Since returning I have sent recorded delivery 4 x A4 typed complaint to MSC (2 months ago) I sent 9 copies to each individual person Chief Exec, Managing Directors, Customer Service, Managers and also Cruise 1st who we booked the Cruise with plus 5 more complaint letters to Cruise 1st as they sold us a package to visit various ports (which 2 of them we didnt visit) because the Ships Captain said we couldnt dock as the weather was too bad. I couldn't for one minute write all the complaints we had during the 28 days at sea as it would take me weeks to do. I haven't written a review on here as Ive been waiting on a reply from MSC from my original complaint letters, my follow up emails (4) and several phone calls to their complaint dept, once I was held on the phone for 1 hour 15mins and 47 secs without a reply. Apparently, because of the nature of the complaint its taking longer to investigate (my backside). The ports, well in my time cruising I have never experienced anything like it, docking in a container yard, disgusting, their were workers urinating behind the container, having to get on a bus to take us through the yards for our own safety to get to a taxi rank. We got a taxi from the dock to Kula Lumpa an hour and half taxi ride to get there. We did visit so beautiful places. If and I say If, we do get any compensations for this horrendous cruise, are they going to reimburse the money we spent on taxis etc. Read Less

Embarking in Dubai took about 10 minutes to get out of the taxi and onto the ship. Destination Japan and the languages announced on board has gone from 6 to 8 and now include Japanese and Chinese (not a problem for me) The ship is lovely with lots of bars and quiet areas to sit. I enjoyed the food and found it better then a Royal Caribbean cruise I did recently, I liked the main dining room as they can be so flexible, we were having up to 4 serves of some meals (chilli mussels) they were so delicious. They cooked us a special curry meal and pasta meal that was not on the menu and also delicious. There was a good variety of food in the buffet and easy to find seating most of the time. The all inclusive drinks package was $29 a day and a bargain and well used, I did not like the Pepsi light they used in the cocktails. The cabin was roomy. The wifi package was excellent value $160 for 10GB, I used about 8GB over the 29 days. and always got good reception. The nightly shows in the theatre were good but I really enjoyed listening to the different music and performers in the many different bars. I don't normally do daytime activities but did the world quiz and a wine tasting session, there were activities available most of the day. I don't like that they dont use the big screen near the pool, I did see two videos on there, Elvis and Led Zepplin which was good, but I love to sit back by the pool watching the big screen with a cocktail and cruising along, especially on sea days. I would not say this was a fantastic cruise, because of bad weather the port in Vietnam was changed at the last moment, we were unable to get off the Ship in Shanghai and we were half a day late getting into Yokohama, we were also delayed about 4 hours getting off ship in Hong Kong. Because of the change of itinerary MSC have compensated us all with 100 euro credit and 50% off next cruise. I booked 5 excursions but only did 3, all these I spent a long time on the bus :( . I purchased a spa package but was not keen on the small Jacuzzi in small room and the massage that was included I did not have time to do in the small time frame they allowed. The laundry package was good to have. I did most of the ports before and been on the ship before and the cancelled and delayed ports made 29 days a bit tedious, no fault of the company, because of this I would rate this cruise 3 out of 5,,,, but 99% of the staff gave 110%, they made a 3 star cruise 4 star. best bar staff ever... Recent cruise april 2018 from dubai to yokohama saw the reception desk overrun each day with complaints. Poor food adolescent daytime activities.poor nightime shows.bad tv.pool accident resulting in death took medical staff far too long to attend. Untrained staff. Food in nightime dining hours old. Same 3 films rerun on deck. Bad experience. Never again...stay away from australia..not reccomended..give msc a wide berth. This is an honest review and is backed up by the majority of people onboard. Arrogant staff with an air of superiority made any complaints pointless. This was a cruise of all bling and nosubstance.head of food needs to be replaced as does entertainer director. Entertainment would'nt win talent quest in outer outback towns in oz. Occupational health and safety on board shocking..this boat should not be allowed to sail in australian waters. Poor food bad entertainment.bad tv. Information arrives late.pay for water you must be kidding...never ever again...msc messy!!!!!! Read Less

DUBAI TO YOKOHAMA MSC SPLENDIDA CRUISE SUMMARY AND COMMENTS We recently went on the above cruise during the month of April 2018. I would like to make a few comments about what we found good and what we found not so good on the cruise. As this was our fourth cruise with MSC we are in a position to compare and comment on what we found. Hopefully my comments will be of some assistance to MSC in organizing future similar cruises. LIKES FOOD The food and service in both the buffet and the restaurants was excellent. There was always a good variety of choice to suit all tastes. Wait staff were always very accommodating and pleasant. ACOMMODATION Our cabin (balcony) was very comfortable and clean. The cabin attendant was friendly and willing to assist whenever necessary. SHIP LAYOUT Easy to navigate from one venue to another even though the lifts were generally very crowded due to the large number of very old or disabled passengers on board. DISLIKES EMBARK AND DISEMBARK Apart from our initial embarking at Dubai (which was efficient and smooth), embarking and disembarking was usually a nightmare. Partly due to the very large number of passengers who wanted to leave or join the ship at any one time, a major problem was the crew who often did not know what to do or what procedure to follow. This led to confusion, long waits and irate passengers making all sorts of threats. IMMIGRATION There were some situations where there appeared to be a conflict of protocol in handling passports and immigration between the ship and the immigration offices at two of the ports. Singapore was bad as there were hold ups in processing passengers which led to arguments between passengers and port staff. On couple was particularly obnoxious and after assaulting of of the staff, was refused entry to the ship to continue their cruise. Hong Kong presented another set of problems with passport control and as a result, we and a large number of passengers lost a whole day waiting for immigration officials to check passports which had already been checked the previous day. Obviously these types of problems should not cause passengers to lose part of their holiday through no fault of their own. It is the ship’s responsibility to make these processes as smooth and trouble free as possible. VISAS We were told, on booking, that we needed visas for entry into Sri Lanka, Vietnam and China. We dutifully applied for the visas as requested and paid the appropriate fees ($320 each in our case) only to find that as we were only transit passengers at the time, we did not require visas. Another expense we did not need. This appears to be gross incompetence on the part of MSC in not being aware of the visa requirements for transit passengers. TOURS We only took a few tours as our experiences with tours in the past were not good. Those we took this time were fair but once again the logistics of moving passengers on and off the ship were terrible, resulting in delays which caused two of our excursions to be cut short. Re-boarding the ship in Singapore was terrible and we waited to pass through customs for more than two hours. This led to many outraged passengers who pushed in lines in order to get to the front of the lines despite the port staff and crew members calling for patience. Our experience in Hong Kong was worse. We went ashore the first day and took a tour to Macau. On re-boarding, we went through customs using our Ship’s card as there were no port officials to check our passports. This angered the port authorities to the extent of their demanding a face-to-face passport check which occurred at 2.30pm on the following day, thus precluding a visit to Hong Kong. Our tour of Tokyo was cut short due to delays in exiting the ship and our luggage being dumped in the car park instead of on it’s allocated space within the terminal. It took us 45 minutes to find our luggage and this resulted in out tour having to be cut short. The tour guide had a very poor grasp of English and made the tour almost useless as we could not understand what was being said. STAFF We found that the majority of staff at the reception desk had very poor language skills and appeared confused as how to answer our questions; when questions were answered we found that we received conflicting answers from different staff members. There were inconsistencies in their responses to the same question. Reception and excursion staff appeared unhappy and were not always willing to help. Our travelling companion went for 12 days without television in her cabin due to a fault. Pool attendants were bored and when one passenger had a heart attack and died at the pool’s edge the staff did not appear to have adequate training in resuscitation. There was no defibrillator handy and it was 30 minutes before medical staff arrived on the scene to assist. ENTERTAINMENT Very poor and amateur performances in the theatre.(unlike that which we found on previous MSC cruises). Singers and bands were terrible in the various bars even to the extent of becoming annoying and causing us to look for other venues to find some peace. Poolside activities were boring and very amateur and appeared to cater for members of a nursing home rather than for the general population. IN CONCLUSION We booked our cruise more than 12 months before sailing and were unable to book the cabins that we wanted as the oceanview bookings were “full”. As a result, we booked a balcony cabin and out friend had to settle for an inside cabin which she found terrible. To add insult to injury there were people aboard who booked only a few months before the cruise and were able to book any cabin they wished. They also had included accommodation and drinks packages in he price of the ticket. We had to pay extra for everything. This appears to discriminate between which country you came from. Overall the cruise was very disappointing and appeared to cater for a particular type of passenger. All in all. Our experience was not good and despite MSC offering 50% discount on our next cruise in compensation for the problems we experienced, it is cold comfort having spent a significant amount of money on this “once only” cruise and it is extremely unlikely that we will ever travel with MSC again. I hope that my comments will be noted in the hope that others will not have the same experience as we did. Read Less

H the same aving already taken an 8 night Cruise with the same Company but visiting Abu Dhabi and Oman, this time we wanted to see Bahrain & Quatar. We embarked at Abu Dhabi which we had already visited on our previous Crusie. Embarkation was quick & smooth. Our cabin was ready as soon as we went aboard. There has been a few changes to the ship which we had already sailed with on a Transfer Cruise . Changes for the best . 2 new theme restaurants and new larger shops. Fantastic selection in the Jewellery & Watch shop, also a vast choice of Tolietries,Make-up & Perfumes. General state of the ship is sparkling clean. Our cabin steward (Darma) was efficient & always available with a smile.Towels were changed twice daily. Bed & pillows were very comfortable and luckily we had no problems with the Air conditioning. No problems with Breakfast in our cabin. Always punctual. Also went to the La Reggia Restaurant for Breakfast. Vast selection on the Buffet & also a choice of cooked Breakfast available. Quality of food is good & variable especially in the Bora Bora Self-Service. However Dinner in the La Reggia Restaurant proved to be a disappointment. Meagre portions , rather tasteless and often just warm.Even the presentation could be improved. Service was excellent and our Waiters (Erwandi & I Putu) were always attentive and helpful. A surprise Birthday celebration by the Waiters improvising a Band was memorable ! Entertainment was very good. Beautiful Costumes ! Dancing & Singing top class in all Shows. Our day on Sir Bin Yas Island was very relaxing. Plenty of things to do . Good Self -Service lunch available. Bahrain proved alittle disappointing, Doha is in full expansion , 3 full days in Dubai were fantastic! Read Less

My girlfriend and I chose this cruise because of the destination. We usually don't cruise large ships, but decided to give it a try. We booked the Fantastica package, which included 12 drink vouchers per person per week. Since coffee, tea and water are free all day long (juice only in morning), we used them for cocktails, beer and wine in the evening. Embarkation was quick and efficient. We were able to embark three hours before the designated time. Disembarkation was also easy. I asked the Service Desk to check me out early, which was no problem. My flight to Frankfurt left at 1:50 am from Dubai Airport and I left the ship at 10 pm. Was approached by a man trying to sell me a taxi ride to the airport for 125 AED (Dirhams). I rejected his insistent sales pitches and took a taxi parked in front of the cruise terminal for 60 AED. Food: Buffet food was good though not overwhelming. Restaurant food was below average. Especially "Mediterranean Night" was a great disappointment. Paella was a sad risotto, hummus was worst I have ever tasted, Moussaka needed salt and spices, the fish was tough, the shrimp mushy and the stew dreadful. During the week, we had a few dishes that were good, like the octopus carpaccio, the mussels and the prime rib. The wait staff was efficient, friendly and helpful. Actually, most of the staff was great. The Service Desk personnel especially is doing their best, sometimes under stressful circumstances. It never fails to amaze me how rude passengers can be to people who are obviously bending over backwards to help. Sea Day is a zoo. Not enough chairs for all those sun worshipers. One has to get up before 7 am to secure a lounge chair. The daily bulletin notes that if a chair is abandoned for more than 30 minutes, it is up for grabs. I wish they would actually enforce this. Many chairs were claimed early in the morning and than left unused for breakfast, lunch, bar visits, etc. Since there are only a limited amount of chairs available, it would be nice to share. I vacated mine after 4 hours to a very happy young woman. Excursions: We took the "Big Bus" in Abu Dhabi and loved it. A dhow harbour cruise is included. First one is at 10:30 am. Stop #4 is the Ettihad Museum of Antiques. It is adjacent to a modern art gallery and definitely worth visiting. Conveniently, right next door is the "Art World Cafe", a lovely restaurant with a shady courtyard and delicious food. Also not to be missed is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is a stunning building at the outskirts of town. The Jeep Desert Safari and Arabian Nights Dinner Excursion was our favorite. The food was the best we had during the trip and racing up and down dunes was quite an experience. In Khasab, we took the Jeep Safari into the interior and were a bit disappointed. Coming back to port, we had enough time left to hire a private boat. Captain Mohammed showed us the fjords of Oman for 4 hours, made us coffee and offered some very delicious dates. He was friendly, informative, passionate about his country and the ocean environment, and a pleasure to be with. He made this boat tour memorable. We had an engineer from the cruise ship join us for this trip and Mohammed charged us Euro 25 each, which was just over 90 dollars for the three of us. This was much cheaper than an excursion booked through MSC. Because this cruise was not expensive, our expectations were not that high. Considering what we paid, we were satisfied with what we received - except the restaurant food. Read Less
