Dining at sunset on formal night. We dressed but many folks did not. We wished we didn't also (less clothes to pack!)

Good but Not Great

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Independence of the Seas

This was our second cruise previously sailing on the Celebrity Eclipse and although we enjoyed our holiday we won't return to this ship as it was an inferior experience. However let me start with the good points. Nearly all of the staff who served us were extremely polite and helpful a couple of grumpy staff in the Windjammer were the exception and a special mention to Helen who was our room ...

I have cruised before on Royal Caribbean and had a lovely time. This time I took my partner who was cruising for the 1st time ... and he says his last and mine too with Royal Caribbean!!! We queued at Southampton to get on the ship and that was the beginning of queuing for England !!! We queued to watch shows, we queued to go for breakfast, we queued for lunch ... we queued for everything ...

This was our second time on the Independence and our fourth cruise with RC. Where to start? The queue to embark, although we got ushered through as loyal platinum members, eventually. The ship was very clean and the staff friendly in a distant kind of way. I could imagine their staff briefings telling them to smile and be polite. It was as if they were going through the motions. The food in the ...

This was our second cruise, the previous one being 8 years ago on Ocean Village which we enjoyed except for lack of formality - mainly that all meals were buffet and there was no dress code. We chose Independence of the Seas as we wanted to avoid flying and baggage limitations and could park next to the ship in Southampton. We were also led to believe that the ship was large enough to ...

Just returned from 2 weeks on the independence of the seas from Southampton.......What a RIP OFF!! We have cruised with RCI for the last 10 years and this may well be the last time. It all seems to be about what and how much you can be charged for.....Not only the most expensive drinks at $14 (£10) for 2 bottled Corona lager....$16 (£11.50) for 2 glasses of Zinfandel wine?? Any you got Less than ...

We have never sailed with Royal Caribbean and the itinerary was good also we got a very good deal. Embarkation a very long queue but we were pleased with the cabin, inside deck 7 midship. Very clean and very comfortable. The cabin attendant was great, Marlon. We got our table for 2 in the King Lear restaurant for dinner, our waitress May and assistant Emanuel were brilliant (table 631). All the ...

What a very costly mistake choosing independence of the seas, we always go with P & O but family was going with Royal Caribbean so thought we would give it a try, where shall I begin ?? Started queueing at Southampton and never stopped queueing from that moment on until we arrived back at Southampton, queued for breakfast, dinner, tea, lifts, drinks, tables, excursions, shows, well almost ...

Our first cruise and our last, as our experience was awful. Do not expect 5* service/food/quality, as it is 2* - 3* at best. we did experience many frequent/experienced cruisers, who were appalled as to how the quality had gone much down hill, just since last year, so it is unfortunate that we obviously chose to cruise on the independence, at its worse. One lady said, she it was her 6th time ...

After a reasonable coach transfer to the port, we entered the terminal and were met with what seemed to be the entire compliment of 4000 passengers standing in line waiting for security processing and once through that another long line waiting zigzag style for their sea pass and room assignments, little did we know that these lines were apparently a taste of things to come. Everything, and I do ...

WOW…..VAVA Voom, well not quite…… Not too sure why but my family group of 6 adults felt there was some vital ingredient missing from this particular cruise with which to make this an outstanding one. We certainly never experienced the much publicised WOW factor which was a great shame as we were celebrating a birthday and a retirement. After two recent absolutely fantastic TA cruises in ...
