Short break. Old ship but friendly and very clean Adapted cabin Well positioned Close to lift.. Twin beds . Bed next to window very cold. Impossible to sleep even with extra quilts and heating full on plus very noisy children running up and down corridor till early hours.. Cabin basic but shower suitable for disabled. Food good in Ballindoloch restaurant but strangely no vegetables ...

We are seasoned Olsen customers and have sailed on Balmoral (again this time) Braemar and Black Watch. This cruise got off to a shaky start due to very long delay for embarkation at Southampton.. Most ports interesting, but Casablanca should be avoided unless on an organised tour. We settled for the shuttle bus into town and were dumped in a most appalling location. Like several hundred others in ...

I boarded the ship at Doper which is the most convenient cruise port for me. I parked my car in the port which efficiently organised. After check-in I boarded immediately and my luggage followed only a few minutes after. It was one of the quickest start to a cruise I have experienced and I have taken 40+ cruises. Our cruise took us to three of the islands in the Azores, Madeira, Lisbon and ...

Disappointed

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Balmoral

Embarkation went smoothly. Entertainment team good. Meals in main restaurant good. Palms cafe under staffed and food ok. At times very unclear where soup, gravy was being served and under staffed, no clear direction. The lounge areas I felt were under staffed, on several occasions after waiting to be served then had to wait up to 15 mins or more for our drinks, which necessitated me having to ...

We are fit 70 plus ex-teenagers from Middlesbrough. Travelling from Newcastle to Port of Tyne is very convenient and quick for us. We chose this cruise because our previous 2 Fred Olsen cruises, one to the Baltic and the other to the Arctic Circle on the Black Watch were wonderful in all respects. We were not quite as lucky this time. Before we left home we were upgraded, once to Deck 6 ...

Balmoral problems

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Balmoral

There was much that was good about this cruise, in particular the staff, entertainment and food. However from day 2 passengers were falling ill with gastrointestinal outbreaks. This affected the facilities available, for example closure of the jacuzzis, closure of the gaming tables, some of the toilets around the ship, no table top sales, temporary closure of the gym, no self service buffets, ...

We chose this cruise because we went to Norway on the Balmoral 3 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We wanted to see the Baltic capitals, so when we saw it advertised in the brochure of our local tour operator (Johnsons Travel, who we know run an excellent door to door servce) we immediately booked. The problems started within2 hours of us sailing when we had to turn back to Newcastle as ...

WORSE THINGS HAPPEN AT SEA - THEY DO. BE WARNED

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Balmoral

“Worse things happen at sea.” They did. BE WARNED. . . . . We selected the Fred Olsen cruise to The Baltic 1) because it coincided with our 30th Wedding anniversary and 2) We would be in St Petersburg for 2 days the highlight of our trip. As a bonus there will be a gym, a library, self service coffee/tea bar. What more could you want? Here is what we experienced: THE SHIP - ...

We were on the same cruise as lynandjohn below and basically agree with all their comments, although not so keen on the entertainment apart from Chris Gee who did a couple of very good talks. We also did the Alla Tours two-day excusion in St Petersburg which was really excellent with a superb guide. The previous post has highlighted the limited time we had in Stockholm which meant we ...

Well first and last cruise with Fred Olsen. The staff were very friendly and helped to make a not very good experience a little better. The food was very good and there was a very good choice, something for everyone. Unfortunately the Gym was closed as were the jacuzzi's. Members of a very hard working staff were sitting outside toilets to make sure you wash your hands. 24 hours confined ...
