My family had a great time yet my wife and I have taken 7 Princess cruises and a total of 31 cruises. My general assessment is that Princess has bee Carnivalized. Everything about the ship, the service and the food demonstrates cutting corners at the expense of not just the passengers, but the staff as well. We had a mini suite serviced by an overworked housekeeper. On Celebrity, for the same cabin, you have a housekeeper and a butler, fresh fruit in your room and canapes in the afternoon. You also eat in a special restaurant and drink premium booze is a seperate lounge. Not the case on Princess. The cabin was tired; the sofa was dirty, cushions did not stay in place, surfaces of counters and furnitures were marred and chipped, the bathroom floor had dirt that could not be cleaned, the balcony was dirty, the sliding glass doors were always dirty. The food was mediocre at best, except for the Crown Grill where we had a great dinner. The public spaces were always far to noisy. It's great to have a good time, but you can barely hear anyone when talking to them. The bars were quite nice and the service was very good. I was amazed that the Crooner's bar ran out of peanuts and some of the booze. Shouldn't that be better planned? The fitness center decent and my wife had 2 good massages. This was my last Princess cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to get away for New Years for a week. Embarkation was very quick and we were immediately loaded onto ship with no waiting in lounge. Had to wait a bit till rooms were ready, but that’s to be expected. We were in Club class and enjoyed most of our meals in their special dining area. We actually felt the wait staff were a bit over attentive as it felt fake and suffocating. Food was typical for Princess - nothing special, just ok. The pizzarria and the grill by the pool were hot & fresh as well as delicious and staff there were quite friendly & helpful. We attended most nightly entertainment shows - 2 guest entertainers had two shows each and we felt their second shows were nowhere as good as their first - almost seemed an afterthought or leftover material thrown together as we really liked their first shows! Service was ok, oft times drink service was slow and NOBODY went out of their way to be friendly, charming, amusing, or even attentive. Went to 24 hour International coffee place early one morning (5am) only to be told machines were being cleaned and to come back in 45 minutes when they could then resume coffee making - so much for 24 hour service! We signed up to take the Ships tour ar $150 each (with gifts to be received including a $75 valued robe, a nice picture frame, 5 group photos, a bbq apron, and a personalized pad of paper). All gifts arrived except the robe and when I questioned guest services, I was told they had no robes but would be happy to credit me $25 each! Wow - what a shock - a $25 credit for a $75 item? I was shocked that this was the best they could do and that I had to ask for it when the robe had been advertised by their crew as a participation gift! Disembarkation was well organized and went very smooth and quick! Read Less

We do this as often as we can for Christmas week. This is the first time we can say from the minute we got on to the end entire crew welcoming, helpful, pleasant caring. 1 of us needed wheelchair assistance and it was there from check in all the way to the Horizon for lunch, wow !!! Room attendant provided what asked but not the friendliest, and the spirit of the entire ship was amazing on the night the crew sang Christmas carols with passengers joining in. It was a pretty amazing thing to see and be a part of. Also great was the passengers who formed the passenger Christmas choir to sing in their own show! Negative was the way too early scheduled late seating at 7:15 or 7:30, (just back and now cant remember oops!)the lack of late shows for late seating and missing alot because of the early/ late seating time. Was no late night comedienne either, When in ports no way to make that seating time. Few nights we skipped it. We recommend the specialty steak restaurant ,we went twice. We didn't care much for the girl main server in the dining room, every night was rushed, talked fast and offered recommendations we did not ask for. Otherwise GREAT TIME! ps, its a rather long ship so take a pass if you have trouble walking a lot. Read Less

After sailing multiple times with Norwegian, we thought we would "Step Up" and sail with Princess. What a mistake.... worst food and poorest selection for buffet for 1st five days and then selection got minimally better but quality remained poor. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner buffets consistantly poor quality, bad service, sad faced employes. Paid for 2 nights in Specialty Restaurant "Crown Grill" steakhouse, mediocre food, BAD service. No better in dining rooms, BAD service mediocre food, poor selection. many public Restrooms out of service entire cruise. Nice balcony Cabin, deck 10 C405 and excellent room steward "David Kurniawan". Very organized and well run boarding and disembarkation. Lacking any quality entertainment, shows etc. Truly SAD. Clean well run Casino, however I would have liked a "real dealer" and real cards while playing poker instead of the big shiny glass computer screen. We are really NOW looking forward To our next Norwegian "Fun" Cruise. We did not appreciate Norwegian until sailing on the Ruby Princess Read Less

We stayed at the Double Tree at San Pedro prior to boarding. Very nice hotel and they provide free parking during he duration of your cruise. We chose this cruise after a 6 year absence from cruising. In the past we have had primarily cruised with Princess (over a dozen times). The Princess line appears to have lost it’s luster over the years. Both the ship (Ruby Princess) and the crew appear tired. The level of customer service has significantly dropped. The fine extra touches of the past have disappeared and the staff appears often short with the guests. Our cabin steward kept our room clean, but nothing notable. The decrease in service is most likely a combination of a Princess management shortfall and a cut back in service crew. They are caught up in doing the same thing everyday and no longer look at innovation or how to improve the guests experience. The Main dining was ok, but server attitude was lacking. Horizon Buffet food was ok but finding a table, unless you bus it yourself, was challenging. The deck foodservice was good and the street tacos at the Salty Dog Grill were very good. Speciality dining food quality (Share and Salty Dog) were outstanding BUT the service was very slow. We did not travel with kids, but there were plenty on the cruise and they seemed to enjoy the cruise. Most adults could not use the hot tubs as they were usually filled with 8 to 10 year olds. I was not sure what to expect. I was worried I would be bored out at sea. However, that was not the case! There was so much to do and it took careful planning each day to make sure I had my fill of interesting entertainment. I absolutely loved the phone app! It made planning easier. The food was amazing in every venue. The wait for Anytime Dining was at most 10 minutes some nights. Our cabin had an attentive steward. The beds were extremely comfortable. Everything was clean. Ports were easy to get on and off the ship. I chose to walk around Cabo San Lucas and then in both Matzalan and Puerto Vallarta, I found a taxi driver to give me a local city tour. I was not disappointed. I had so much fun that I am plan to come back in a month and do the same cruise again, then setting my sights on an Alaskan cruise. Read Less

As Celebrity cruisers we wanted to try Princess. I won a Princess cruise from our favorite Las Vegas Casino. We live in the Los Angeles area so we chose a local cruise. We were excited to see what Princess had to offer. 3 stars is generous, unfortunately. We had a balcony cabin. The room was really small and the shower was extremely small. The food had no flavor. The entertainment was mediocre. The fitness center was small and did not have a lot of equipment. The result was long wait times. We did like the Princess phone app so we could message each other if we needed to find one another. We also enjoyed the large flat screen tv and the choice of movies. Due to the lack of good entertainment, we took advantage of watching lots of movies. Now that we have tried Princess, we appreciate Celebrity even more. Read Less

Outstanding Cruise on the Ruby Princess. Great service from the cabin steward to the head waiter, all outstanding. We had a great room location - L309 - this was an ideal location for accessing the Lotus Spa, the Sanctuary and adults only pool, and the stairs to access the piazza and dining. We loved the enrichment programs such as the cooking demonstration and galley tour. The banter between the Head Chef and Maitre De was hysterical. We really enjoyed the shore excursions - we took in Whale watching in which we got a lot of great photos of humpback whales, seals, and dolphins and an old town city tour of Puerta Viarta. It included Tequila tasting at an organic farm and distillery, a lunch at El Set that had great food and spectacular views. The weather was perfect and the ship was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food was fantastic and the staff was extremely accommodating to Julia's dietary restrictions. We highly recommend Princess Cruises and the Ruby Princess! Read Less

We chose this cruise since it left from LA...a relatively short drive from San Diego, and allowed other family members from LA ti join us. All in all we had a great time as a family, enjoyed most food options and loved the entertainment. Princess also did a great job helping our 2 elderly family members who needed additional assistance in the boarding/onboarding process. Our room was quite small, though we did enjoy our balcony. Shower was also extremely tight for an average size adult. Not very happy with Princess when it comes to blatant upselling of food items. They no longer served steak and lobster in main dining room, unless you pay additional $29...same as specialty dining option. This was common throughout...always had to decide if we wanted to pay more for certain food items. Prefer all inclusive approach as it used to be. Ports in this trip were not important as we had been to Mexico numerous times and wanted to spend more time on ship. Read Less

Enjoyed the trip for the most part. We did like to see some of the shows on the outside big screen. But it was way to loud most of the time which drove us to the other pool. The pool under the screen was somewhat warm, but the other pool was cold and was only enjoyable on one of our hottest days. Some of the bar staff were rude, not engaging, or fun at all. The do not know how to make a drink. First they put a measured, and always measure, shot in an empty glass then add ice and then mixer. Totally wrong, ice first, then alcohol, then mixer. We did enjoy the shows, food, and fun stuff. Overall I would say somewhat less quality as the Princess cruise we took last, 9 years ago. I would say that the embarkation and disembarkation were just super! We walked right on and right off, without delay. Everyone was so nice. And our room was available super early. Read Less
