I travelled solo and I was delighted

Review for MV Explorer to Panama Canal & Central America

The atmosphere on the MV Explorer is friendly with many passengers either repeat travelers, parents of students of Semester at Sea or in some instances Semester at Sea alumnis. From the first day there was a real sense of community and inclusiveness. I travelled solo and I was delighted how many others did the same. It was pretty effortless to meet fellow passengers and they were an interesting ...

We returned yesterday from an 8 day trip to Quito Ecuador and The Galapagos booked through General Tours. We flew from Charlotte, NC to Miami to Quito. Something to consider-the trip is all about hiling and snorkeling. If you have trouble walking, climbing up uneven steps and pathways over rocks etc. this is not the trip for you. I am out of shape and had no trouble. My father is in excellent ...

Enrichment Voyage

Review for MV Explorer to Caribbean - Eastern

I saw a review on this ship and I believe that person who wrote it cruised on a different ship. A lot of what he/she said was not accurate. I sailed from Nassau, Bahamas. We were able to board one or two days before the ship sailed for $100/night, which is a lot cheaper than going to a hotel and paying for our food for the day. Coming from the west coast, it was better for me to arrive early but ...

Enrichment Voyages - Intimate and Challenging

Review for MV Explorer to Caribbean - Eastern

My wife and I have enjoyed three two-week voyages aboard the MV Explorer as part of the Semester @ Sea Enrichment Voyage program. Making three such voyages speaks volumes about the experience.First off, if you are looking for a typical ocean cruise, then you won't find it here. No big shows, no casino, no cattle-call port calls. Instead you will enjoy an intimate ship setting that is only ...

I'm an experienced traveler; my MV Explorer cruise through the Caribbean and up the Amazon River and back was to be a highlight of my cruising experience. Wrong! These highly-touted Enrichment Voyages are leaving out one very important fact: the ship, apparently due to its hull design and lack of sufficient stabilizers (this information from passengers who were trying to figure out why we had so ...

We took the Passport to Central America cruise in May, 2008 on the MV Explorer. This was an enrichment voyage run by the Institute for Shipboard Education (Semester at Sea). We have taken many cruises from Carnival and MSC. The voyage embarked out of Nassau, Bahamas. The port is very disorganized, hot, and the taxis are expensive. The crew and staff on the ship are also disorganized. ...

I took the enrichment voyage through the Mayalands to the Panama Canal in May. Nassau is a terrible port to get to and leave from: It is disorganized, staff are unhelpful and taxi's are very expensive. Once on board, though, the ship's crew were wonderful. Luggage was in the room almost before I was. The cabin was plenty big enough, with a porthole window on the second deck which was only steps ...

Review for MV Explorer to Panama Canal & Central America

I sailed aboard the MV Explorer Enrichment Voyage in May of this year. We cruised from Nassau to several places in Central America: Cozumel, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama plus two of the Caribbean islands - Grand Cayman and Jamaica. Overall, I enjoyed the experience very much. It was different than a "typical" cruise on one of the bigger ships, but really, I saw that as an advantage. ...
