Easy to sail from San Francisco. Had friends who had taken this cruise and were fairly content, but this was years ago. Ship tired and way to full of “up sale” events. Charge for everything you might expect to have included. Kids at Xmastime pushing all of the elevator buttons...Really irritating. Room carpets need deep cleaning and I’m sure that must be difficult with their immediate turnaround. Very limited room service breakfast if you didn’t want to trek up to the Horizon Court that was FREEZING cold with a lot of difficulty finding a place to sit. Found in the Horizon Court the table attendants to be quite surly. They would constantly walk right in front of you and practically knock you over. Too much standing around talking to each other. We would have a hard time recommending this trip. A lot of older seniors with flip phones and a lot of kids trying to get online. The Hawaiian Couple who taught Ukele and Hula were delightful. Need more of that kind of friendless. VERY UNHAPPY with sale of deceptive internet package. Read Less

Chose for the 15 days away. Aggravating voyage. The food is not what it used to be. The ship is run down and in desperate need of a major overhaul. Creaks and groans in moderate seas. Elevators are being serviced and the doors open very slowly. The worst is no internet from San Francisco to just before Hawaii, and then for a half hour. Next time we had internet was just before Ensenada. Lied to by internet manager who blamed the satellite, the weather, the part of the ocean. All not true. It was a deficiency on the ship itself. Tell the truth! The best part of the cruise were the on board lecturers, Gloeta Massie the naturalist and Hal Timberg who lectured about DNA, crime solving, CSI,etc. The staff was great, as usual. The shows were not top notch, but helped you pass the time. A doowop group, the Alleycats we're great and they scheduled an extra show for them because of the demand. Finally, the ship transfers to and from SFO were excellent. Read Less

I am not an experienced cruise customer. Only 1 other cruise and that was over 2 years ago. However, several friends wanted to take the cruise, so we booked a mini-suite. Embarkation went very smoothly. Disembarkation was very slow with no explanation given for the 1 hour delay. The cabin was ok. Sufficient room and storage. A little worn. Bathroom tiles worn and stained. Grout was failing. Cabin steward was very good. Food was slightly disappointing.. Entrees ranged from marginal to adequate to excellent. Specialty dining was very good. Many parts of the ship were well worn. A prime example was the widespread rust throughout the exterior. Entertainment was adequate. A good mix of different styles. Activities were somewhat limited unless you happened to be a trivia buff. On the other hand, virtually all the staff were exceptional. Polite, efficient, courteous, and helpful. Not so much with the ship's officers, however. They were aloof and at times dismissive. But I will never cruise with Princess again. The fare for the 2 of us was just under $10,000 and it included a $300 credit for our cabin which was clearly noted on the booking documentation that was sent to us. However, the credit did not appear on our account. Princess refused to honor the credit telling us that we had the responsibility to resolve the issue with our travel agent. Are you kidding me? We spend almost $10,000 and they can't fix the problem between them and the agent? The customer service desk did send a message to the main office, which failed to help, but then never contacted us with a response. Gotta be a better cruise company out there. Read Less

My family and I have gone on 2 princess cruises, one previously and one now. Last time, we felt a little disapointed but still fairly happy. Granted, that was only 7 days to Alaska. We went on a 15 day cruise to Hawaii, and it has been just lame all around. I don't wanna sound snobby, but I unfortunately will. The food tastes like garbage. All of the available "deserts" have this disgusting creamy/gelatine taste to them. They look nice, but honestly taste like curdled goat milk. The entrees aren't much better. The best thing ive had on this ship was some barbecue slathered meatballs, which even then, the meat was overworked and burned. The grill on deck 14 specifically has really rude workers. It varies from worker to worker, but majority are not "grand". i've been wishing to go home for the past couple days and to think that I must endure 7 more days here makes me pissed. They show the same episodes of a show every day. I have seen Tim Allen chastize his kids for stealing a knife in home improvement like 6 times now, and I'm starting to hate him. My family bought a DVD player to avoid this in Hawaii. I guess its kind of like a saw trap. Being here is horribly boring, but now I will REALLY appreciate the things back home. I am currently wishing for an in-n-out burger with animal fries and a chocolate shake. Do yourself a favor and probabaly don't go on the grand princess. The other ships may be better, but I wouldn't know. Ive only ever been on the grand princess. Wish me luck on the days back. I will definately need all the luck that I can get. I hope I don't regret posting this. Read Less

Princess has lowered its standards and we have lowered our expectations! The Grand is a grand OLD ship. Took same cruise last year. Engineers working on all parts of ship every deck every day! It shows it, and rumors are it is being sold. That aside and the ship being freezing, we had a good time. You can make a good time no matter! -The entertainment was excellent. -The dining room and food was good. -Steak house was great. -Alfredo’s pizza great. -Buffet was very good, but finding a seat was a bear. Seems that on this cruise the people sat and socialized at buffet tables! Only real complaint was amount of very small(less than two years)kids in pool. They were NOT sanitary and deck staff said the were told not to say anything!! If you want a good cruise, Princess still gives you a “good” Cruise. Just SKIP the Grand. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation was very smoothly. Our cabin was very nice and clean . Our Stewart Eleo was very professional. Always smile and ready to help us at anytime. Tours well organized. Food was excellent, always fresh and tasty. Dining room service was Superb. We love the Ship. It was very well decorated and very easy oriented thru the ship. Entertainment was Great. Specially we love piano player Zigi. Every day he has different music. All activity’s create a great atmosphere and you want to do it again. We walk a lot around the ship and use exercise room. We had a nice morning and evening walk outside in Promenade deck . We already book another cruise in February on Grand Princess. Thank you Princess cruises! Read Less

Food was terrible. Lots of repeats. Salad dressing watered down beyond taste. Coffee made from a coffee syrup, not brewed. Ship badly needs updating. Some upholstery worn through to the stuffing, most notably in the wheelhouse bar. Floors scuffed, and dirty carpets. We did have a mini suite. We liked the layout and loved the tub and closet with shelves. Cabin service was excellent, but late. We were the last in his set of cabins. Mini fridge was for our use, not set as a mini bar, which we appreciated. No variety in shops. If you have cruised with them before, it is the same crap, different day. SF departure was well coordinated and easy. We virtually walked right on with a 12:30 arrival. Our personal debarkation was a nightmare. The assistance we were told would happen, on three occasions, never happened. Porter service in terminal was excellent. Definitely our last Princess cruise. Very disappointing. Read Less

We love the Grand Princess. It's getting a bit old but for some fleets, it is a perfect ship. The ship is still rather large but it's also small enough that you can easily find your way to anywhere you need to get to. I love Desk 5 and the Piazza area. The international cafe and coffee bar is fantastic. Alvin, Sonny, Lala and others really take care of your coffee needs. The pastries/desserts and sandwich area is always packed with delights to satisfy your cravings. Alfredo's pizzeria is the best on the ship. They even made a gluten free pizza for my wife and baked in a separate oven to avoid cross contamination. Our favorite dining room, the Michelangelo is on Deck 5 with the Da Vinci on deck 6. Both are the same as they share the same kitchen and the wait staff went out of their way to ensure my wife had a pleasant voyage with her food allergy. Read Less

We have done over 30 cruises, 28 on Princess. The ship and staff are outstanding. We loved the charm of the ship even though it is showing some signs of wear and tear (Princess Theater seats need to be reupholstered.) Club Class meals were a highlight. The food and service were outstanding. Every night Giovanni, the Head Waiter, made a special dish. We had seen all of the shows so we did Movies under the Stars and saw a couple of comedians which we enjoyed. Sit away from where food is being prepared which can impact hearing a movie. The Club Class Minisuite was comfortable with a wonderful bed. The room was extremely well-maintained. The lecturers were outstanding especially the series on a Route 66. We love everything about Club Class. We never had to wait and our waiters (Edgar and Alvin were amazing!) The gym was well-maintained with some updated equipment, Especially nice was the international appeal of the cruise. The vast majority of passengers were from the US, China and Canada. The only minor downside was we have seen all of the shows multiple times. The6 need some new ones. Read Less

We just returned from the 10-day Mexican Riviera cruise out of San Francisco. I should preface this review that this was my very first cruise. I am 62 and retired. Middle class. Embarkation was a breeze. Quick and easy, with polite, friendly, helpful shore-side staff. I had read a lot of reviews about the Grand Princess being a little run down. This being my first cruise I had nothing to compare it to, but aside from a few rusty spots and some worn carpet here and there, I had no problems with the condition of this ship. We had a balcony cabin on level 14 and loved it. We chose anytime dining and only had a few meals in the dining room. We seldom dine out fancy at home and frankly I thought the food in the buffet was just as good selection. Staff at both places were very attentive and friendly. We often had a delicious sandwich for lunch from the International Cafe or grabbed a piece pizza poolside. There was a wide selection of desserts. Regrettably the cookies were often over cooked. We went to 3 shows in the Princess theater and they were all good and entertaining. We always arrived early to get a seat as there was standing room only by the time the curtain rose. We watched several programs on the big screen "under the stars". Staff and crew were very friendly and polite. Although at times there was a little language barrier with some thick foreign accents. I liked the fact that we had 3 sea days before ports. Got to know the ship and such. Then 2 sea days before the end to wind down after the ports. We just went shore-side at Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, shopped and swan. We did the Copala-Concordia excursion out of Mazatlan. It was nice. Did the Chileno Bay snorkel excursion out of Cabo and had a blast. Great time there. Overall we had a great time and we're sorry to see it end. For a couple in their early 60s like us, this was the perfect cruise. Mainly folks our age and very few children around. Thumbs up for Princess. Read Less
