Great little getaway cruise! Main Dining Room was wonderful for brunch, tea time, and dinner! Guy's and Blue Iguana were awesome as usual. Buffet decent for a smaller ship. Pizza was good just a bit slow. Entertainment was nothing to write home about but not bad. Plenty of things to do all day long. Serenity was great in the mornings! Ports were great (costa maya and cozumel). I thought that the staff were extremely helpful and probably the best thing about the cruise. Service was great- Room attendant was spot on. Of course there are some downsides to this ship. It's old, I believe the oldest in Carnival's Fleet. My wife actually enjoyed the smaller size of this ship. Main pool area was a little crowded in the afternoon but thats normal. My one big complaint was that our room was right underneath one of the speakers for the stage show. Our bed shook during the rehearsals and evening shows. This was annoying but not a deal breaker for us. Overall a great, easy, affordable cruise. Read Less

The wife and I booked this cruise to Cozumel on the Carnival Fantasy because a few friends and our daughter were telling us how beautiful Cozumel was . We drove down on the Thursday morning early to make sure we were there in time to park and find our way in case there were any problems . GPS took us right to the parking deck entrance and they had people there to guide you in which was great . We checked one bag and carried two with us as carry on . The whole process through security and boarding the ship went easily and fairly quick . Once boarded we ate lunch on Lido deck and were in our room within the hour .The room was M269 on the stern of the ship and was better than we expected . Very clean and layed out well so we had plenty of room to move around and were not cramped at all . We had a very good view out of the window . Even though it was over the mooring line deck it was very quite and even when docking at the ports the lines being put out was not loud at all . The staff called us by name the whole cruise and room service was very quick . We enjoyed all the onboard activities and the comedy shows were extremely good . This was our 1st cruise so had pretty good expectations from a few friends experiences sailing to Cozumel . Carnival however diverted to Progreso from a scheduled Cozumel destination due to a 4 hr fog delay leaving Mobile . No one had the chance to leave the ship as they only announced the change after it exited Mobile port . Many people said they would have rather just left the ship than go back to Progreso . Basically everyone that had been to Progreso were telling us how terrible it was . After the on shore excursion was over we had to agree .The water wasn't nice , the scenery is less than scenic as everything looks like overgrown bushes . You have to spend 2.5 hrs one way to tour the Myan ruins so you only get a couple hours to do the tour then have a 2.5 hr bus ride through dirty housing areas to get back to the ship . I really don't understand why they can't have a backup plan to keep guest on their desired port . It seems they could pick up the speed the night they leave port , the day at sea and following night to make up the time . All guest services would say is these things happen . Great , the wife and I wasted vacation days from work and paid good money just to be told , hey we're going to take you somewhere else . We also had a nice excursion booked in Cozumel and had to quickly pick another one for Progreso only to have a note slid under the stateroom door the next morning saying that one has also been canceled due to lack of required participants ! Uh . Given two choices to choose from we picked the longest one being 7 hrs and then find out 5 of those 7 were the trip to and back via bus . Now the ship was nice even though being a bit old and the crew were all excellent . The food was marginal however and nothing to brag about . IMO Carnival should have given the guest a choice to disembark before leaving port and at a minimum been given a hefty discount for being sent to a 2nd rate destination instead of the one purchased . This experience has most likely steered us away from ever taking another chance with a cruise vacation , especially since we don't really have any control about where we end up . Read Less

Feb 23rd - 28th. Inexpensive and close to home. Wonderful 3rd cruise on a Fantasy CLASS ship for joint wife and self vacation. The Fog{ weather no stars } kept us from boarding til 7:30 PM and along with Mardi Gra events made for stressful{!} dembarkation, however, we were so happy to get that email to come to terminal to sail. Yes most people I spoke too were disspointed to miss Progreso Darn FOG is the enemy of cruise ship. Some were glad to have an overnight stay at Cozumel because of missing Progreso. For 30 year old ship there it is incredibly good condition. Very little problematic rust, however, there was one set of railing tubes near top, outside in front of ship, near top of stairs that the end of each pipe was some jagged edges but I rubbed the quasi-painted edges and felt no sharp cutting surface. Hot tubs were hot every time and not a singe child on Serenity area. 5 stars. Enjoyed lots of sun, warm and hot temps. Salt moist air was good for wifes asthma. Cabin{ E180 } was immaculately clean, including bathroom. I mean I was seriously impressed at how clean for a 29 year old ship! Engine vibration may have been more than other two cruises, I dunno. Was glad when getting to Cozumel and then having the engines lowered rpm to idle. Cesar Chan was excellent, enthusiastic, University trained, presenter of Mayan and Mexican culture history. Costal bus ride and lookout photo, Mayan temples and ending with authentic Mexican Tequila, dancing couple, food and friendly dinning atmosphere in downtown San Miquel. Crew service was excellent! Food was excellent and too much. Dancing and singing was great dinning experience. Bean burritos at Cantina on Lido deck were my favorite meal and good food every where I ate. Sorry I'm not a Guys Burger bar fan. Fries way to salty for me if not also to greasy{?}. Wife loved music night life. She played music with the ban. I was in hot tube, big bed{ king? and comfortable }, hot tub, exploring ship or hot tub. Oh, yeah, I loved the 2.0 tube slide. Never had those when I was a kid so no way I was going to miss my chance now. We carried on and off our luggage and we debarked and were in our car by 10:30AM in parking garage and that was a little behind their schedule debarkation times. I love cruising and will go again if can accrue the money to try a larger ship someday. Ex the Conquest class. On way back from Cozumel I saw on tv the head-wind speed was apparrent 72 mph and actual speed was 52. Captain said weather was deterioating, and the ship was listing left{ port side? } for about 5 minutes and that was kind of cool. The whole way back the ship had winds and moderate to and fro roll, and forward -backward pitching. I enjoyed that cause by now I know cruise ships rarely sink. A cruise is what you make it. I made it fun 95% of the time. :--) I watched 2 movies on tv. Read Less

We just returned from a 5 day Cozumel cruise on Carnival Fantasy. Yes, she's the oldest in the fleet and she's small, but that didn't take away from a good time. It's my first cruise so I don't have anything to compare it to so I will say that upfront. I thought there were enough choice of food places to eat, Guy's Burgers was really good as were the other buffets and the sit down restaurant. PIzza Pirate was good, although they seemed behind on making pizzas. The deli was great! The room was obviously small, but I was expecting smaller so I was pleased. We even had a king sized bed and I still had enough room for two. Had a rough start with fog closing down the port at Mobile Alabama so we had several hours to kill which wasn't fun, but no fault of Carnival. Luckily for us, they had a Mardi Gras parade so we were able to see that and that was a blast. Even with the craziness of boarding everyone at once instead of splitting us up because of the delay, everyone on board was so friendly. In fact, I don't think I me ANYONE on that ship that did not look me in the eye and say hello or good morning. Even when we called, the representatives were always very courteous. Since the ship is the oldest there were obvious signs of wear, but I did see the crew taking every opportunity to paint and polish. Unfortunately because of the delay from the port closing due to fog, we had to skip stopping in Progreso so that was disappointing. We received a small refund for that, but instead we went straight to Cozumel for a day and a half instead of just one day. We did the Isla Paradise excursion which was great. Beautiful beach and all inclusive drinks and food. Not many people were there when we were so I loved that. I didn't get sea sick as I didn't feel the ship rocked too badly. The gym was nice, there's a small running track on top with a 9 hole put put gold course. Pool was fine as were the two hot tubs. (Hot tubs were pretty popular. Lastly, they had a great Military Veteran's appreciation event that was great. Loved they have such strong ties to the military and it shows! Also, there were so many events to take in during the times you are at sea. I didn't do any of the drinks packages, we just brought a 12 pack of soda each (allowed) and drank beer in Cozumel. Overall for my first cruise I was pleased and I will say I'm military so my expectations are pretty basic. I've heard from others there are much nicer ships, but there are also twice as many people. This was holds 2600, approx. The difference in price between an all inclusive resort and a cruise even with adding alcohol, the cruise is much less expensive. Read Less

This is an older ship but well maintained. Mobile cruise port is easy access with convenient parking should you drive.. Positives: Crew and staff; selection and availability of food and drink; cabin steward and cabin upkeep; wait staff in Celebration Dining Room; while the entertainment was adequate it was not what one might call top tier but for the price it was OK. Negatives: (1) Carnival requires you to select an arrival time and tells you that you cannot board until your time slot. This was NOT the case on our sailing. Our arrival time was 12:30 to 1:00. We arrived a few minutes early but when we got there the line was long and slow. We asked about our reserved time and were informed that it was first come first on. Only if you PAY for priority boarding do you bypass the line. There were people in line with later arrival times. (2) Carnival allows smoking inside the ship on Deck 9. Unfortunately you have to pass through this area for many of the activities and shopping. There is no ventilation and it smells like you are in a forest fire when you pass through. This was a major disappointment for us. (3) Through no fault of Carnival, the port of Mobile was closed due to fog when we returned. However, Carnivals handling of debarkation was miserable. Although they announced an orderly process for leaving the ship many times, it was summarily ignored by passengers and not enforced by the Carnival crew and staff. So be aware that there may be a mad rush with tempers flaring and crowds pushing and shoving. Carnival could have done a better job of enforcing their own procedure. Overall the cruise was adequate for the money spent. Read Less

This was the worst vacation I’ve ever been on. Which is sad because this was our honeymoon. There was absolutely nothing to do. The food was mediocre at best and it was rarely at it’s “best”. The best food on the ship was Guy’s Burger Joint which closes pretty early in the evening. Our room was nasty upon entering it for the first time. It looked like someone has rubbed sticky food over the remote control for the TV. When I went to draw the curtains back there was only a metal wall instead of a window. I don’t recall that ever being stated in the room details. Also there was only one outlet. By day two of the cruise we were both more than ready to get off the boat. We are both, of course, sitting here hours after we are supposed to disembark, waiting because everyone is so incompetent. Never again. Read Less

We were on a specialty themed cruise, but because it wasn't a full charter we had the experience of both the charter & the Fantasy's normal trip. We had 2 adults & 2 children, the youngest being 4, so the smaller ship could not have worked out better for us!! We had a room on the 6th deck at the back of the boat. Above us were the kids club, dining room, and pool level buffet. This made it so convenient!! The kids club was AMAZING!! the staff were so sweet, they constantly had something going on for the kids, and I felt really good about my girls being there. We dropped them off at night after dinner and would pick them up on the way to bed. So convenient and really gave my husband and i the chance to enjoy ourselves at night without any guilt. The rest of the staff on board were amazing as well! not a single rude comment or annoyed face. We were well aware this was an older ship, but didn't lack for anything we needed. I tend to be of the thought that unless you are spending a fortune on a vacation, you have to know that there are some compromises to be made, but that the vacation becomes what you make of it. We didn't want for anything, we didn't feel like we missed anything, the biggest complaint i have is that because it's a smaller ship, there's less staff so sometimes the wait for a drink at the pool bars were a bit long (somehow i survived tho!) The shower pressure in the cabin made for the best shower ive ever had! the rooms were what we expected, and just big enough for comfort. The tv remote was a bit weird as the volume & channel buttons didn't always work, but this was for 1am tv before falling asleep. We had a blast in the casino & bar next to it, they constantly had activities going on inside & outside, and getting on and off at cozumel was quick & easy. we've decided were only going to cruise from now on as its so much easier with 2 kids!!! no cooking, cleaning, and finding something for them to do as its all taken care of. Weve begun planning out next Carnival Cruise for this fall :) Read Less

The ship was dirty and the food was terribly disappointing. It was like a bad night at a Golden Corral just before they throw the food out. The wait staff and stewards were very friendly, but 2 of the 3 times I went to Guest Services, I dealt with someone who was totally incompetent. I don’t know if this was a training issue or personnel issue, but the attendant was totally unfamiliar with the what the “First to the Fun” included or even what it was. We also purchased the “Chef’s Table” experience. Again, the service was great but most of the food was terrible. The pro was not with the food itself, but with the execution. The wagyu beef in particular was over cooked and drenched in what tasted like McCormack’s sauce. We got back to find that Carnival double-billed all are expenses onboard and sent my bank account into chaos. We will cruise again, but never with Carnival. Read Less

Port is with in an hour drive from our home. Destination was not important as we have been there before. Our purpose was to relax for next five days. We mostly eat at anytime dinning at Celebrity Restaurant. The staff there were excellent. Young man named Kris took care of us. Coinsurer staff was very proficient and remembered our names. Buffett was ok but lots of people eating too much food, kind of turned us off. We did splurged by signing up for Chef's Table . It was $ 75. / person. Included all the wine you wanted to drink . Fantastic service and kind of creative, rich food was served. We were 12 people only and eat at Library. Chef Roy explained and introduced all food we were served. Cruise Director Mardi was very knowledgeable and real professional. Every time we heard him at any event, he made us laugh. Don't miss Hairy Mans contest. Also don't miss Country Dynamic Duo close to Casino. Some of the Karaoke singers were great. Piano bar, was bit small. Our cabin Stewart kept our room clean. We did our own excursion in Progresso. The town of Merida was very clean and beautiful. Did not look like Mexico. We walked around in Cozumel. This ship had a nice water slide for young kids and activities for them. I do not know how we can pay so little money for 5 days of lodging, 3 full meals each day, and all the entertainment. Most of the staff were foreign and were very courteous. We left additional tip for few of them in addition to what the Ship charged. It was nice and well worth the money vacation. Parked our car in their garage at the cost of $ 90.00. Read Less

I'll break this review into two parts, (1) the good, and (2) the criticism: The good: - Service. The service and staff were amazing. Friendly, engaging, great with our children, and overall professionals. - Camp Ocean. The camp ocean children servoces were great. We feel bad about placing our children in these types of settings; however, after their first visit -- they wanted to go back. The staff were friendly, professional, and great with our 5 and 9 year old daughters. - Food. The food in the Main dining areas was incredible. We all tried exotic foods we'd never order in a restaurant (e.g., rabbit, escargot). The food was well prepared and the presentation was high end. - Disembarking. The Disembarking process was organized and speedy. - Cruise director and selling. The cruise director, Marty, was great. Unlike some of our other cruise experiences, there was little selling pressure. We enjoyed the freedom from pressure to buy or provide extra tips during the trip. Now for the criticism. To be clear, I'm trying to be fair given the age of the ship and factors in and out of the crew's control. - The ship. This is a nearly 30 year old ship, which obviously has undergone some upgrades over the years. Nevertheless, she's pretty worn. The dining areas are out of the late 1980s. There are areas of weather wear and corrosion. The outside areas are small and offer limited water space (e.g., spa, pool) given the passenger load. The port. This ships sails out of Mobile, AL. Embarkation was a nightmare. The parking area is at the end of a traffic funnel, situated on the far side of active railroad tracks. This made for wild traffic (nearly 2 hours). Entertainment. The venues on this ship are akin to a holiday inn meeting room. They're just not modern. The acts offered were well done, however. I'd like more variety, but it wasn't enough to really complain about. Smoking. This was the worst aspect of this ship. The casino and adjoining bar are mid ship, near the mid ship stairway and elevator bank. The ventilation is poor or non exisitant, making the entirety of the center of the ship a smelly, smoke-filled space (from deck 4 through to deck 9. For a family friendly ship, this was a major drawback. There was no escape from the smoke. Here are a few more obtuse items that the crew really couldn't control... But big carnaval could have done better. The arriving passengers were delayed a few hours due to fog. This delayed our boarding from 12pm to 6pm. The fog also delayed our embarkation ~24 hours. Interestingly, during the warmest and clearest part of the following day... we did not embark. Fantasy embarked closer to 3pm.... after the fog rolled back in heavy (heavier than the previous day and night). It was interesting we could leave the port in this heavy fog... but we did. In the end, our boarding was delayed half a day and we lost a port of call. Carnival refunded shore excursions and port fees. This was an unfortunate and frustrating experience. The passengers. Cruises tend to yield a good cross section of America and, inevitably, some drunks and jokers. For those more conservative parents, these aren't attractive attributes in close quarters. This was certainly true of this cruise. There were a fair share of drunks exposing a bit too much, dancing in what I believe they percieved as sexy, and throwing their children in the one pool everyone shared. Some of this was driven by games hosted by the cruise (e.g., hair chest competition... Where contestants had their chest hair pulled, naked torso smelled, and butt slapped by three lady strangers on stage). I'd sail Carnaval again... But not from Mobile or on Fantasy. Read Less
