Spent 6 nights on Island Windjammer's Diamant sailing from Grenada to several stops in the south Caribbean. We had been on quite a few large ship cruises, but this was only 11 passengers and 6 crew. Best cruise we've ever had by far. Hit 5 or 6 islands we'd never heard of, including one called Sandy Island which was amazing. Just a small beachy island with great snorkeling (which we also did 3 or 4 other times). Also visited a place called Happy Island - basically a bar in the middle of the water only accessible by boat. Throw in a couple of scenic hikes, a bonfire, hanging with locals, and of course the boat's own rope swing and we kept active. No need to deal with room keys or customs - all taken care of for us. But the best part of the trip was the crew. All of them focused on keeping the guests happy and safe. Gourmet meals cooked by our chef Lenny and served by Bolo included breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks every day. Unbelievable food using some traditional and some exotic ingredients we never heard of. Rumageddon every afternoon was a blast, although we started as early as 9am (twice) so I didn't do many late nights. Smiles and King kept us in line on the dingy rides and entertained in the evening (King's show had us rolling). Old School was always popping up somewhere and giving a fist pump. And Captain Stuart was involved in everything we did. He was the tour guide, cruise director, part time entertainer, and just acted like the 12th guest sometimes. Most of the passengers were total strangers when we started. By the end of the week we were all best friends. We will be back, most likely over and over. Read Less

Very first cruise -- I am not your ordinary "lounge by the pool" type of person. I like to meet people, hear their story and build relationships. I like to go to places not normally visited and seriously dislike large crowds. This is the perfect cruise for doing so. The Diamant is a beautiful sailing vessel - She is maintained exquisitely by her Captain and Engineer (with help from all the crew!) Activities -- not many while aboard -- sunning, watching the sails, listening to music, looking for flying fish on the waves and hoping we catch a fish! A good time for relaxing conversation and being mellow Service: Marlan is simply amazing... I am not used to having someone "memorize" the way I take my coffee, or my preferences for wine. (note -- I am usually the one doing that for bosses and clients!) He "allowed" some of us to closely watch his napkin-folding skills and attempt to copy his artistry... Shore Excursions: Dinghy-service all the way! Sometimes, you get dry landings, sometimes you get wet ones! Snorkeling, beaching, driving tour on Bequia - there was always something to see, and a turtle/fish to stalk. I will always remember King automatically repeating: "Take yer time, Hand on Shoulder, Take yer time!" Not a person got dropped into the drink accidentally because of their care. Cabin: Tiny, yet was able to hold our things -- dress is casual, we are mostly barefoot the entire cruise -- you don't need a lot of space. Comfortable, the A/C kept things fresh. Dining: Lenny was our cook this week -- The portions of food were perfect -- I did not gain a pound on this cruise, but I cleared my plate at every meal as it was delicious! All in all, the care given to each member of this cruise was over and above -- the crew was genuinely happy to have us aboard -- I was sad to leave on disembarkation day! I look forward to a future trip on Diamant! Read Less

My wife & I sailed The Mandalay in 1990 and had a wonderful experience. I decided that, since her death, I needed to add another sail to my bucket list. Through Internet research I found Island Windjammers, and they seemed to fill my needs. The goal was to return to Bequia and visit Mac's for another lobster pizza. Island Windjammers is all about the islands. The ship is your taxi from point A to point B allowing you to experience island life to its fullest. If you are looking for stage shows, a cruise line that will book your airfare and hotels, this is not your cup of tea. You will book your own flight and hotel. (But IWJ will make hotel recommendations and provide discounts.) We stayed at Allamanda Beach Resort prior to embarkation. It was adequate. There were some issues with our reservations and they fixed the issue quickly. The desk clerks were most accommodating and friendly. (Note: No food available on site.) The Diamant is a 101 foot schooner carrying a maximum of 12 passengers. (Note: Only 3 couples were on this sail. I asked the captain if they would sail if only one cabin was booked and he said they would. The cabins were of adequate size for sleeping, showering, etc. You will be lounging in the salon on on deck. Sheets/towels, etc were clean and changed out often. Soaps, shampoos, hair dryers are provided. Again, IWJ is about the island. Do not expect tons of on board entertainment. It's a 101 foot ship. What did you expect? The crew/service were excellent. They far exceeded our expectations. In fact, I accused the head steward of being able to read my mind. You will become a family on an IWJ. Crew and passengers mix. Captain Phillip joined us an every meal. (The food was 4 star quality by the way.) At breakfast he would discuss the island we were visiting, what excursions were available, the swimming/snorkeling opportunities which were available. The food was exceptional. In addition to 3 meals we had a mid afternoon snack daily. Barney the chef was a true super star. Five star rating on the food. Disembarkation was simple and fast. We had a very early flight and Captain Phillip arranged taxi service to get us to the airport in a timely fashion. The experience far outweighed my expectations. Captain Phillip and crew were so accommodating. While on St. Lucia, Phillip took the dinghy ashore and returned with lionfish ceviche so we didn't have to go ashore, and Chef Barney plated it up in a beautiful fashion. Barney did amazing things in his little galley. One of our passengers was celebrating her 50th birthday and they threw a great party. Captain Phillip even offered us the opportunity to modify our sailing plans and visit Martineque. We took him up on the offer of course. You can read all about our amazing adventure at www.lobsterpizzainparadise.blogspot.com. I highly recommend IWJ if you are looking for a true Caribbean experience rather than a Blue Haired Lady cruise. You will sail and have the adventure of a lifetime. Read Less

We were greeted by the staff with smiles and open arms. My boyfriend and I were one of six couples. We are both 26 and the ages ranged up into the 60's. This was our first cruise of this style. We had read several reviews before hand, all of which absolutely raved about the experience. The ship was stunning, very clean and well kept. Luckily for everyone involved, we all hit it off almost instantly which was vital being we would be spending so much time together in close corridors. The trip catered to everyone's wishes for daily activities- this was made possible bc this was a small/intimate cruise. We were able to snorkel, swim and experience some of the most beautiful private islands. The food throughout the trip was absolutely delicious. The fact that Chef Barney was able to create such fresh meals in a tiny kitchen was admirable. I anxiously awaited every meal he prepared. Many days he would hang his fishing pole off the ship catching fish for our meal. Capt Stuart guided us from start to finish with grace and lots of laughs. Rumaggedon happened everyday at 4pm, a bell was rung and everyone gathered on the back deck for famous rum punch and appetizers. Capt would go over our daily schedule multiple times a day, however, our plans were always flexible. Everyone goes with the flow- and it works! No one can forget Bolo. He was a machine. Cleaning, serving, you name it- he did it. He made sure you were relaxed and content. The love, laughs and attention to detail will have us surely returning for another excursion. Truly an experience of a lifetime! Read Less

I arranged for the Windward Islands cruise with Island Windjammers for my wife's birthday. This is the first time for either of us on a sailing cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The crew was incredible - they worked to make sure we had everything we needed or wanted. Food was great - I couldn't believe the meals that came from the ship's galley. This itinerary is very laid back - a great chance to really disconnect from the everyday rush - and just relax. Watching birds, the clouds, islands that we passed while sailing created a serene atmosphere. The 8 other guests on the boat were very pleasant and given that it was such a small group - we got to know them all quite well. I highly recommend Island Windjammers - Exceptional Trip! Read Less

My husband and I are always on the lookout for vacations that are adventurous vs. pretentious and give you a real feel of the area and all it has to offer, while still providing top notch service, accommodations and excursions. Island Windjammers and The Diamant gave us all of that and more! From the first phone call to inquire about the trip until they dropped us at the airport heading home, we were impressed with Island Windjammers. Not a single detail was overlooked and the experience exceeded all of our expectations. The ship was beautiful and in excellent shape. Our cabin was super clean and surprisingly spacious for a ship Diamant's size (Choose cabin 6 if possible - it was the largest and in the center of the boat). The crew was outstanding! Knowledgeable, personable and very capable in each of their roles. They felt like old friends by the end of the trip. The food was to die for! Barney works miracles in that tiny kitchen! It was a great sampling of local Grenadian flavor and traditional American fare that was exquisitely plated and delicious. We visited a different island every day and a new adventure was awaiting. The snorkeling equipment was in great shape and each day we snorkeled a different beach and reef. The disembarkation was incredibly painless and went very smooth. We were so sad to say goodbye and leave the ship and all I can think about since we arrived home, is when can I go back? For me, there truly is no better way to vacation and see a lot of the Carribbean at once, than a trip like this. It's been a long time since I was able to leave on vacation, turn my phone off, and not have to really make a single decision or have to worry about anything. I was able to literally relax my mind, body and soul and felt rested and rejuvenated when I got home. Thank you to Island Windjammers and Captain Stu and the Crew of The Diamant for a trip of a lifetime! I HIGHLY recommend this company and will FOR SURE return for another sailing adventure with IWJ! IWJ exceeded every single one of my expectations. This was by far the best vacation we've ever taken. My boyfriend and I talked to their trip planner when deciding whether to do the cruise. She was amazingly helpful, even offering summer beach read recommendations! We booked it and received periodic updates and pre-boarding information. I do wish they had given us even the most tentative itinerary, though--even after we got on the boat there was no handout of where we were going, though there was a daily schedule on the whiteboard. We had never been sailing or on a cruise before and didn't know what to expect. The boat is beautiful and they raised the sails as often as they could. Plenty of seating both in the front and the back. Also we ALL took the motion sickness pills and were all fine, save for one day in which we all struggled in the morning because of very choppy seas. But other than that, totally fine! Food was excellent! I'm both a vegetarian AND picky and George made me incredible things. On the first day I mentioned that I didn't like eggs (not a vegan, just picky) and after that, without saying a WORD, I never got a dish with eggs, not even a salad! The sauces were especially delicious, and I was so grateful that they stocked up on some soya for me and the other vegetarian. There is also Rumaggeddon at 4pm, with special recipe rum punch and snacks. Definitely looked forward to that every day! The locations we went to were beautiful. White sandy beaches, fun local bars, and some incredible snorkeling. It was so relaxing! When we anchored, there was a rope swing, and access to kayaks, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. Did I mention a ROPE SWING? At night, they would turn off the lights so we could stargaze. The boat had a cooler of all-you-can-drink sodas and beers, with unlimited wine as well. We also only visited ONE island where you had to pay for an excursion (which was only $30), so everything really is included in the price. But really, the most amazing part of the whole trip was the staff. Captain Phillip was great. He let my boyfriend steer the ship and taught him about sailing, and ate every meal with us. King gave a comedy show (indescribable!). And then there's Bolo. Oh, Bolo, I miss you every day! Our steward was INCREDIBLE. So attentive to our every need, made our rooms look great every day, and just generally lovely and wonderful and a joy to be around. King made a necklace for one of the passengers as a gift! And they gave us all a map signed by them at the end, as a souvenir. Our trip had only 11 people and by the end we were all exchanging Facebook accounts and email addresses. It's such an intimate and lovely experience to travel with such a small group from all over the world and see such amazing places. We ranged in age from 17 to mid-50s (we're early 30s). Finally, a shoutout to Monja, the local contact in Grenada. She was so fun and helpful and even invited us to a Grenadian Hashing (google Hash House Harriers). We tried to make it but were too late, alas, but it looked like fun. She made us feel so welcome on her adopted home! In sum, best vacation ever. GO GO GO. We never do the same trip twice but oh man, we are SO doing this again with a different itinerary! Read Less

Excellent, superb, the best....it's rare indeed to have an experience that so exceeds every expectation that there isn't a superlative fine enough to do it justice. Wanting a very special vacation to celebrate our 40th anniversary, we finally decided to ship-out with Island Windjammers for the week. We selected Diamant precisely because she is small allowing for a cruise that would be more intimate with the sea, but affording a level of style, service and comfort we wanted for this special week. The shipboard experience was beyond what you would experience in the finest hotel. We were wonderfully cared for from the moment we stepped on deck in St. George's, Grenada to the moment we stepped off. Diamant is a beautiful lady extremely very well maintained. Our safety was at every moment assured by an ever vigilant and experienced captain and crew who also assured we enjoyed every moment of the cruise. The itinerary was as advertised. We visited interesting islands, explored local towns, swam and snorkeled in the clear, warm eastern Caribbean, and spent some lovely idyllic time just sitting on deck watching Diamant sail. Cabin 5 was terrific. Surprisingly roomy given Diamant's size with plenty of storage space. The head/shower was efficiently designed with all the comforts of home. The food was the best, including two fish caught by the chef while we were underway (can’t get fresher than that!!). We are already looking at the Diamant’s future sailing schedule. Read Less

This was my second time on the Diamant. This time we were a private 12 night charter to celebrate a friend's 50th wedding anniversary with vow renewals. We arrived in Grenada 4 days before sailing. Just in case we would have any issues with our flights or luggage, we wanted to be sure to not miss a day of sailing. Diamant had lovely arrangements made for the vow renewal ceremony! I can't begin to express how impressed I was with the entire crew! You could see they took safety very seriously. Great mixture of wonderful personalities. Very friendly, entertaining and helpful while still being quite professional. I must admit the chef on this sailing was awesome! Hard to believe he is able to be so creative in such a small kitchen. we really enjoyed many different entrees of fresh fish. We don't see many fish here in the desert where we live. Dining al fresco with all the ocean breezes and star was wonderful. I could also see that Island Windjammer does indeed listen to feedback they receive from cruisers. I could see nice little things that had been added since my last sailing. Plenty of new deck chairs, sand chairs, floating mats and two new paddle boards. How fun was all this!! We had contacted Island Windjammer prior to our departure and they helped arrange a couple of Island Tours for us. It was great to be able to just add these expenses to our accounts. We enjoyed many special snorkeling days. The quiet powder sugar sand beaches were very enjoyable. The captain even snorkeled with us at times. He was able to pint out many interesting undersea creatures that we would have missed. Put a whole new dimension on our snorkeling experience. Lights added underneath the Diamant created an wonderful ambiance at night. It was a lot of fun to see what sea life would be attracted to the lights. We were even entertained one evening by bats eating insects that were attracted by the lights. What fun!! The information received prior to arriving in Grenada was very useful. No problems. They were able to answer all of our questions ahead of time. We had no surprises. The ship also makes its own fresh water. The water tastes very good and we always had plenty of it. We are starting to plan our next sailing adventure. Which Island Windjammer sailing vessel will it be??? Read Less

Just returned from the Island Windjammer’s Diamant Twelve Day Exploration, sailing from Grenada to St. Lucia and back. What a fun trip! “Little diamond” Diamant is a 101 foot double masted schooner that carries 12 passengers and a crew of 5. She is well maintained and very comfortable. Each cabin has individual controlled a/c, separate bath and shower. We were in cabin 4 which had two larges drawers under the bottom bunk, space for hanging clothes, three storage shelves, and ample storage in the bathroom. It is recommended you pack lightly and use soft luggage for easy storage. The food was excellent with a variety of breakfast entrees, seafood, chicken, pork, pastas, salads, soups, local fruits, awesome desserts including homemade ice cream, great afternoon snacks, and the infamous Rumaggedon aka rum punch. There was a cooler filled with soft drinks and beer as well as coffee and tea available throughout the day. Gained five pounds thanks to Chef Barney. The crew as attentive and safety conscious. I came home “spoiled.” The itinerary offered something for everyone – island tours, pristine beaches, snorkeling, swimming with the turtles, swimming off the ship, limin’ with new and old friends, a little shopping, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and a lot of relaxing. Twelve days of total bliss. We’ll be back! Read Less
