First time cruise and had been recommended to go RC. The emarkation process was efficient and timely with a good welcome from staff. Our cabin was an inside cabin which was bigger than we had expected beds were really comfortable . My personal preference next time would be an outside cabin as I like outside light to waken me in the morning. There was no fridge /mini bar which would have been helpful for storing additional water. We only used the informal Windjammer food facilities and always found something suitable to eat.unlike other buffet facilities we have experienced food was replenished regularly although occasionally some not as hot as they could have been. Staff throughout the ship were friendly and very helpful and always appeared to be happy in their work. The entertainment from Beta 4 (musicians ) in the Centrium was great. The female vocalist had a superb voice and had great interaction with the audience. Best night was the 70's disco night where Elvis, Eric and the team gave a colourful lively performance. We also enjoyed the Flag night where the flags of the various nationalities of crew members were dispayed and some of these staff provided dance entertainment from their countries. Excursions to Dubrovnik was well organised although time allotted was a bit too short due to chairlift queues. Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and would definitely go again, Read Less

Like choice of ports. Cost was inline with budget Entertainment staff were hit and miss. Highly - even overly energetic on some days - then terribly flat on others. Final cruise day was a total waste of interaction with this group. Entertainment - 1-2 good acts - others just flat. Dance/sing group from Canada - was about high school level skill - very attractive - but did not have appropriate music or dance selections for their talents. Dining was overall very average. Japanese - not good - better choices and quality in our local Sushi restruaunts - the "Hot Rock" - cook on your table experience - terrible - not enough table room - unable to cook food to my satisfaction Steakhouse - was very average - and staff was a bit pushy (I am someoneone who for medical reasons eats small portions...kept being pestered by staff on what was wrong with the food...just wanted to finish and get out of there). Italian - Giaovannis - excellent - Food above average - Staff friendly appropriate - highly recommennd. Beverage Packages - if you plan to consume more than 5 drinks a dy - go for it. Less than thant - not worth it. We got the refreshment package - came with a cup. never told where to use/how to use for soda, etc...only 2 soda machines that could use - and 1 was broken - HUGE waste of money! Advertised games - trivia, game shows - poorly organized - especially when group was large - staff did not seem to manage adapting these activities to large groups. Dance Band Beta.4? - awesome!!! vERY CROWD MOTIVATING. Evenings in "Centrum " area entertaining, fun - highly recc - only downside - did not seem to have enough room - to accomodate interested guest in this times activities Service was good all around - orders correct, low wait itme Excursions - those decribed as moderate - were a little more intense than that.Good exucurions - but physically challenging to and "average" american fitness level Read Less

The ports were the ones that made me take this cruise. I was beyond thrilled with the ports and excursions on this cruiseship Ports were beyond beautiful they were spectacular. Ithe excursions were fantastic and employee wonderful and friendly. The lunch included was good and authentic to region. Enjoyed it very much. I loved the speciality restaurants which are delicious and service is exceptional. Would of liked a Boleros to be added to the smaller cruise ships so that we would not have to wait til 11 pm to hear some more modern music. The other music was for a much older crowd The Disco night was Fun and Funny had an amazing time with the crew. Maybe one more theme event like this would be great to be added. It was so much fun Worth it The entire cruise was worth every dime and beyond. Beautiful. This cruise was the best ever with the most unforgettable ports ever could have dreamed of Read Less

We traveled with another couple and planned our own private tours. For me, this was perfect as we had a one on one relationship with our driver\guide and those were wonderful! Not knowing what a cruise would be like, I am over the moon in love with them. Not only did I feel like the entire ship's staff LOVE ME, but they love their jobs. The rooms were great, everything I needed and the attendants go our of their way for you. Having the chance to have a fantastic meal every morning with ANYTHING you can image right there was a HUGE plus. Each afternoon, a program for the next day is left on your bed so you can plan things on the ship and know ahead of time. There is not ONE bad thing to say only praises for this ship and the crew! We scheduled our own daily excursions and we gave the wrong time! NO PROBLEM!!!! The attendant at the desk called the company and assisted us in getting the time changed. Words cannot say how much we appreciate EVERYONE and EVERYTHING they did for us! Read Less

This cruise was a 50th birthday present. We started with an extra day in Barcelona and then boarding the ship. The boarding experience went well with no delays... 15 mins before sipping cocktails at the pool bar. Windjammer was great to experience different foods. The bar staff seemed to know there drinks and were always available to serve you your next drink. The dinning room staff were great from the time you went to get a table to the time you left. Overall the shops staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The cruise director and the entertainment manager were not only good at their job but seemed to always make you laugh either on the tv or in person. Lastly this was our first cruise, I understand it was on a small ship but we enjoyed our experience from start to finish. So thank you to the staff of the Rhapsody of the Seas.... Read Less

This was my first voyage on Rhapsody of the Seas and my first on Royal Caribbean. As someone who has sailed fairly extensively on Holland America Lines (HAL), this is my point of comparison. The positive aspects of Rhapsody of the Seas on this transatlantic crossing to Barcelona were the friendly, competent level of service and the food. The lunch buffet choices and quality were actually better than HAL. Kudos to the chef who creates such wonderful curries and other Indian food. The dinners in the dining room fell a wee bit short of HAL, but not by much; they were completely fine. The shore excursions on the Canary Islands were reasonable and had excellent guides and venues. Check-in was quick and easy in Tampa. The several lectures presented by a doctor speaker on medical/health history were top drawer. The negative aspects of Rhapsody of the Seas compared to Holland America are significant. First, the entertainment. Certainly, entertainment is a matter of personal taste, but for us a kid in a backwards ball cap doing wheelies on a BMX bike is not for us. Neither were the magician, the (rather embarrassingly talentless) guests’ talent show, and so on. As for music, I missed the classical music and the jazz I’ve experienced on HAL. (Yes, there’s a violinist and electrical guitarist playing modern movie themes and pop hits, but their playing, no matter how good, didn’t appeal to classical or jazz fans). Second, the noise. Almost everywhere you go on the ship, it’s noisy, either from the entertainment in the central atrium, or the top outdoor-pool deck, or the ubiquitous PA system, which is constantly playing Muzak-type noise. This was heard even in the hallways on the cabin levels. What’s wrong with allowing some quiet spaces without Muzak? Third, the amenities. Yes, I do like smaller ships, but certain amenities were lacking compared to HAL. No free New York Times online or in hard copy, no real library, no indoor movie theatre, no quiet indoor lounges, etc. We met some nice people on board, and enjoyed the voyage a lot. However, the hard-to-define characteristic of ambience – the vibe – was not as good on this voyage for the most part compared to HAL. I’d say that the HAL ambience is more relaxed and also more elevated. We’ll stick with HAL in future, when possible. Read Less

We like transatlantic cruises. This was one of the finest. We made new friends, and fully relaxed with the activities provided. We especially enjoyed Charlotte and her watercolor classes, and the lectures on medicine. Cigar/cigarette smoke is highly offensive to me, and gives me migraines, and yet the casino was one of the freshest we ever experienced, as we occasionally passed through it. I did comment to guest relations about how much nicer it is. It was great that the Diamond Club area was expanded, due to the high number of Diamond, etc. guests on the ship. We really enjoyed the Happy Hour, the snacks and the fun with friends. On other ships we have been able to eat and enjoy the Pinnacle club, as well as top shelf dinners, because we had a Jr. Suite. This was not applicable on the cruise, which was a little disappointing. And I wish I had known how disappointing the internet would be, as I would not have purchased it. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it provided a way to get to Europe fairly economically when you consider all room and board and good food and entertainment and excellent childcare and programs included! We got to see many beautiful places on our cruise and had the option of taking paid for excursions or venturing out on our own. Excellent staff and service! We didn't want for anything! All of their staff are friendly and helpful and it was so fun to meet people from all over the world. Royal Carribean had a great mixture of staff from various places around the world and it was fun to talk with them and learn from them! Their programs for our children were excellent. Our children had so much fun and it provided my wife and I to have a true vacation. All the ports we stopped at were beautiful and fun to explore. It was also nice that at one of the ports they offered complimentary shuttle into town. The food was excellent and plentiful and they even had gluten free options. Read Less

I decided to go on another transatlantic cruise with Royal Caribbean because I had such a great time on the 2017 transatlantic cruise on the Brilliance of the Sea. This year I decided to take the Rhapsody of the Seas from Tampa to Barcelona. The ship is probably about 20 years old and could use a make-over but even though it's a little dated it is clean and a very nice ship. The cruise director Elvis and his assistants, Eric & Bernie, are fabulous. They are the best I have experienced and made every day fun. Their expertise at keeping the activities fun and the good entertainment made the cruise enjoyable. Most people hear about how great the food is on a cruise. Well, NOT ON THIS CRUISE! If this was my first cruise, I would probably call everyone who talked about delicious food on cruises a liar. This food looked fantastic but tasted the opposite. Out of 9 dinners in the dining room, there were 7 days that people at our table sent food back because it was so bad they couldn't eat it. Appetizers and desserts were left uneaten after taking one bite. The buffet wasn't any better. How can hard boiled eggs be so hot that you can't peel them and pizza be cold? Everything in the buffet was dried out. Pancakes were so hard they could be used as frisbees, toast would completely crumble when you picked it up and bacon always ended up as bacon bits. If you can live off boxed cereal & milk for 14 days then you would be happy. I on the other hand lost over 10 pounds. It's nice to lose weight but I didn't book this cruise to lose weight. This is only my second cruise with Royal Caribbean so I won't be recommending Royal Caribbean to friends. Hopefully, this is just a fluke and not normal. I have a couple more Royal Caribbean cruises booked this year and I'm hoping they are better, otherwise, it's bye-bye to Royal Caribbean. Read Less
