We had been out to the tall ship festival in Green Bay, WIsconsin in August 2016 and got a brochure about the Star Clipper tall ships. When our 1st vacation fell through we decided to do a cruise with Star Clippers. We had never been on a cruise before but we wanted to travel with 170 people rather than 3,500 or more.
Everything about the Star Flyer was great. The crew knew our names after ...
I had a wonderful crossing on the Flyer in Oct. 2015 and booked early to secure a good cabin this year. Overall, there was no comparison with last year.
I am not going to moan about things that are outside anyone's control ( poor winds, virus outbreak, no internet ), but my main complaint ( and that of many others ) was that the on- board entertainment was abysmal!
I know, from before, that ...
We don't like the huge ships. Coming from a small town, 3000 people is more than our cities population. My husband loves to sail. Star Flyer holds 170 passengers. We love the Carribean.
Food was excellent. We found some of the passengers a little stuffy. One British guy was upset I was dancing barefoot on deck after dinner. We did meet a nice little group of friends we enjoyed the entire ...
Be in no doubt this is a beautiful ship. This was our third voyage with them this year. We did one last year and we have another to come in 2016.
On the other hand we may not book any more.
Only vague thought seems to have been given to the ports of call on this trip.
The Panama Canal was interesting but it went down hill from there.
Two Colombian Islands one of which was little more ...
My Experience on the Star Flyer
I’m surprised by the tenor of the reviews here. We just returned from a 7-day cruise on the Star Flyer, where we had a wonderful time.
Overall
The ship is a working sailing vessel and, as such, provides a different experience than the typical ‘big ship cruise’. There is no casino, exercise room or spa, and the maximum number of passengers on board is only ...
This was our fourth cruise via Star Clippers and a disappointment. Our accommodations were fine and the overall service was great, especially in the dining room. The Hotel Manager (Arnold Deutchl) was exceptionally helpful and competent.
Unfortunately the Cruise Director (Monica) was only interested in promoting excursions and next year's cruises. She was unwilling or incapable of ...
A cruise on a sailing cruise ship sounds like unbelievable heaven. Sailing on the Mediterranean, to all the beautiful ports on the French Riviera, sounds wonderful right? Boy was I wrong.
First off we got rooms, side by side on the top. Our cabins were the top of the choices we could have. They were very cute and roomy. I went with my 2 daughters. Rather than going on and on about the trip in ...
Star Flyer - Cuba 1st - 8th February 2015
29th January 2015: Havana: Left Gatwick to land in Cuba some 9½ hours later. Customs/Passport control faster than I feared and certainly better than Gatwick. Transfer to Hotel Saratoga by limo. Hotel rated 4 Cuban stars you'd give 2-3 here. Had to change room due to damp smell and noise from 24hr bar under us. Also cobwebs big enough that you could have ...
Sailed from Cienfuegos, 3 hours south of Havana, there is no such port of embarkation on the list above!
Departed on 11 Jan 2015. All very smooth. Lovely weather, ship beautiful, Captain jolly, crew friendly and very efficient. Food excellent.
Spent the first day at sea sailing up and down......there is nowhere else to go, and get the impression Cuban officials are very firm about where they go. ...
You can cross the Atlantic Several ways; cruise liner, plane or swim if you've got the time and energy. But the best way, in my opinion, is on Star Flyer, a four masted barque built for the job. You will find lots of reviews of the ship on line but in essence the ship specialises in recapturing the days of the clipper ships but a tad more luxurious for the modern day passenger. The return rate is, ...
