We decided on a pre Christmas cruise from Sydney to Auckland for two reasons. One we really needed a break from all that was happening at home and two we had coffee cards that were expiring on 31 December. We have family in Sydney so that meant we could have a leisurely start to our break. The itinerary was good even though we had been to all ports except Hobart before. Hobart was uncharted territory so for us this only increased the attractiveness of the cruise. The embarkation went very smoothly with no hold ups. The staggered times was definitely a good idea. We actually arrived a little later than the time specified so that could have helped as well. Our cabin was everything we hoped for. We went for a partially obstructed balcony and found that while looking across the life craft was a little annoying it didn't impede our view all that much. So when we went into the Fiordland National Park we were well able to see Mitre Peak in Milford Sound and most of the other interesting places mentioned from our balcony. The weather was amazing, no rough seas crossing the Tasman and no problem getting into some of the more tricky ports, including Akaroa. We did a privately organised tour in Dunedin. The tour operator was "Book A Tour" and we saw all the sights we had promised we would including Larnach Castle. The cruise itself was great. The entertainment was excellent, no disappointments. Our only criticism was of our dining experience. Unfortunately the meals were most of the time only lukewarm. The waiters were quite slow which didn't help. Also the senior waiter seemed to think that it was more important to hat to one couple while the rest of us waited, a little impatiently at times, for our meals. The experience was improved when the junior waiter took it upon himself to go ahead and serve the remaining people. It certainly soured our experience. It should be noted that the only two meals that were hot came in the pizzeria and at the Plowman's Lunch. Majestic Princess is a beautiful ship and certainly had everything we could need. However it still seems to be catering for an Asian clientele. This did have its drawbacks but it wouldn't put us off going on it again. Read Less

MARINA DECK STATEROOM M611 BALCONYEmbarkation was fast and efficient...We arrived a day earlier into Sydney and as we had to vacate our hotel at 11am we were allowed to embark as soon as we arrived at the ship (4 hours earlier than programmed by Princess). This ship being just over a year old was in top condition as would be expected. It was pleasing to find the showers had a never ending supply of hot water throughout the day and the pressure was excellent. The large square porcelain handbasin was more functional than the oval ones on most of the rest of the fleet. The stateroom was well appointed with a power point above the fridge that was 230 volts AC,(idea for Australasian guests) The television was a large flatscreen wall mounted with an ample supply of movies and news channels.Movies started at the beginning and could be paused to continue watching later. Our cabin steward was an Indian gentleman (Ronni) was great and nothing was too much trouble for him.He kept our room and bathroom spotless and was a fountain of knowledge The view from all balcony staterooms on the starboard side of Marina deck was unobstructed.Best to steer-clear of staterooms on the decks directly below the sea-walk on lower decks as guests on the sea-walk are able to look directly into the staterooms of the two decks below it.The food in the any-time dining area "Concerto" was preferred by us as similar food in the world- fresh marketplace was seldom hot.The pop-up Crab shack on two nights of the cruise was superb and well worth the $35 cover charge....Where do they get such massive crabs? The entertainment in the Theatre was excellent and better than I have experienced on the four other Princess vessels I have travelled on. DOWNSIDES, Too few lifts in the centre of the vessel for the number of passengers on board,Happy hour has been dispensed with which used to be a cordial meeting place for friends to discuss their day ashore.Princess should rectify this as it was a huge discussion subject. No wheelhouse bar.The layout of the world-fresh marketplace is a maze and makes trying to relocate your table when returning with another plate an exercise in orientation.Diagrams?maps of the deck level outside the lifts are often East-West abeam instead of fore and aft thus making it difficult to ascertain where the stern and bow are in relationship to where you wished to go. We enjoyed this cruise on this majestic ship. Even though there were 3500 passengers you hardly saw the same people twice.Such a roomy ship.Good ports of call. The markets at Hobart were huge and just walking distance from the ship. You needed to get to the theatre about half an hour before the show to get a good seat, but that was no bother-people watching all good and good to chat to someone new.We were so lucky with the weather on this cruise, so good to get into Milford Doubtful & Dusky sounds. Join a meet & greet so you can meet people straight away.Lots of free champagne at the shop giveaways, always fun-especially when you win.We had a deluxe big balcony on deck 16 right in front of the ship, good to see where you were going.Excellent TV in the rooms, lots of good movies. Bathroom was small, room for one, but had a really good shower, large sink and bench and room for your bathroom gear. Very quick and organised embarkation and disembarkation. The Trivia-held twice a day are a lot of fun. Pools could have been a bit warmer for us. Read Less

We chose this cruise to be able to visit family in Auckland and enjoy relaxing journey there, with stops in Hobart and Melbourne. It was a pleasant cruise, seas were calm, weather cool but sunny. Had a great day in Hobart, hired a car and drove to Port Arthur, had another couple join us Enjoyed a day in Melbourne riding trams, wandering around Fitzroy Gardens. The ship was one of the largest for Princess, we had been on its sister ship The Royal around UK earlier in year. The Majestic was geared for Asian passengers who like to gamble so the Casino was bigger and the Vista Lounge called the Vista Gaming lounge, dark and a bit claustrophobic, pity could t see out of windows due to boards covering them up. No promenade deck either, just a short walk up and down deck, couldnt go around as with other ships. Made ship more enclosed other than going up onto deck 17-18. Loved the Conservatory - Hollywood deck, nice pool, lots of lounges, enclosed with glass. Food mix of good and not so good. Menus in MDR had less choices, some items availabke everyday missing eg steaks and for sweets creme brulee. We loved the addition of the Noodle bar on the Lido deck, next to Hamburgers, very tasty wanton soup, different noodle dishes daily. Entertainment production show disappointing, all whiz bang effects, not really our thing. Good Beatles and Rolling stones tribute groups. Daytime activities not very inspiring, same old same old, Line dancing, golf putting into pool. So much advertising the Lotus Spa and Jewellery shop, every night two or more fliers, ended up in the bin! Read Less

cabin great ,staff great, food average ,shore excursions way over the top in price ,cant walk around the whole ship on any deck its designed different ,was upset that we could not see the fjords in new zealand because it was rough apparently, but was not happy to here a much smaller ship P and O explorer was able to go there when we should have been there . any one wanting to go really do your homework on the excursions better off booking on shore or private before you go . found the food in the buffet average and was the same most days ...the times we dined in the dining rooms the food was ok the bakery was great the cakes etc were very nice....they make a fortune on bingo and of course the jackpot went off on last day as all the ships do they were a tad cheaper to play then royal caribbean . our cabin was alweays kept very clean and well looked after fresh towels etc everyday .i would suggest to check account every day as one day there was an extra four drinks on there that we did not have to the vale of 34 au dollars .....they were very good on giving us a refund ...but best to check and keep record of what you purchase . also when you order your wine etc if you are an aussie make sure you ask for aussie wine ...they tried to give me some chardonay from america it was like drinking chemicals took it back ...so you have to be quite clear to ask for aussie wines .to round this off i can only compare with one other cruise we booked this one because of all the hype about it ...yes its fairly new ,yes its a lovely ship ,but seriously our cheaper cruise was just if not better then this one ....will i book with princess if we go on another proberly not . We sailed the Australia/New Zealand cruise on the Diamond Princess in 2010 and returned to experience the Majestic Princess. Most of our 24 Princess cruises have been on their Grand Class ships including the Diamond, Star, Emerald, etc. Our first Princess cruise was with a dance group on the Diamond princess to Alaska. What we liked were the three wood dance floors on the Promenade level in the Explorers Lounge, Crown Grill, and Club Fusion. There was a Rock or Western band and a trio playing every night and they were flexible playing a variety of music. Princess has been getting more and more away from the dance floors and music and now caters to more senior travelers. The main place to dance on the Majestic was in the atrium with it's acrylic floor. We were with a dance group again an were very disappointed. Food in the main dining room was bland the first few nights, but several meals were better later in the cruise. Our group thought the bland food was because Aussies and New Zealanders like it that way. Service in main dining room was excellent. My favorites were the lobster and pawns and diver scallops. The buffet was mediocre. A few asian dishes made lunch more enjoyable. Where the old Trident Grill was located they have a new Lobster Bar (costs extra) and they also served hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Where the old Pizza Bar was located there is a new Noodle Bar. Won Ton Noodles, Miso Ramen, and a special is served daily. I enjoyed it. We only ate at one specialty restaurant. Actually it was Crab Shack in the back of the buffet. Our King Crab was really good. The production shows were much better than the ones on the Emerald Princess in December. The singers and dancers were very good. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent. Read Less

We went on a 12 day cruise New Zealand, we had booked our flights and transfers with Princess everything went smoothly and we were on board in no time at all, our room was not quite ready but Noel our room steward said it was okay to leave hand luggage in the room .We went off to explore the ship, had lunch in the Market place and had no problem finding a seat and that was the same for the rest of the cruise for Breakfast and Lunch. We ate in the anytime dinning for dinner and ate early which suits us. The food in the dining room was very good and our waiter Manual and Eberth were very efficient nothing was too much trouble. The Piazza was always busy and seats were at a premium , but didn't bother us as we prefer to be out in fresh air We managed to get in to all the shows starting at 7pm, the Theatre was full for all the shows but we got in about 30 mins before the shows and there were plenty of seats available,it you left it to about 5 mins before the show, the seats were all gone. We also attended some of the activities that were held in the Live Studio We missed out on going to the Milford Sound due to bad weather , but safety comes first. We enjoyed the Hollywood Pool area and could always get a seat we also used the gym on sea days. We found the Majestic very nice ship, we have booked another Cruise on the Majestic next year Read Less

This cruise suited the timing of a party of 8. We had done a similar cruise to NZ 10 years ago, and what we saw prompted 2 land tours since and another one already booked. After booking, our 3 mini suites were elevated to club class at no cost. No idea how or why, but no complaints. Boarding was as quick as we had experienced. Club Class gave us not only priority seating at all meals, but also the same wait staff, which we prefer. It also eliminated queuing which would have eaten into the attention span of our one-year-old grandson. The dining staff welcomed him and made sure he had everything he needed. (New words he learnt included "more roll"). The ship is new and brighter than some, but the lack of a full-lap promenade deck annoys us. There are only a couple of areas on deck 7, but are mostly narrow, and only partial length. You can walk laps on the exposed top deck through the basketball court. Not pleasant. The Princess shows were of the usual high standard, if short. The guest entertainers we saw were excellent. As we had cruised and toured previously, we only took one excursion - to Christchurch to look at the rebuilding progress. Most times we accompanied one or more of our family if they weren't doing their own tours. Unfortunately we were unable to go through the Fiordland National Park as we had to proceed quickly to avoid some nasty weather in the Tasman Sea. We had been in there before, but felt disappointed for those who hadn't. Disembarkation was at the allotted time, but the usual chaos prevailed at the kerb. We took the Princess transfer to the airport, after working our way through the crowds trying to get to their transport. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was the right time of the year for me - just before summer in NZ and getting cold in the Pacific Northwest where I live. Everything was handled perfectly from embarking to disembarking which is quite a feat considering the huge number of passengers. The cabin, dining, entertainment were A-1. I have many food allergies but the chefs and servers ensured I never had a problem. I enjoyed every port and the excellent entertainment on board. But most impressive were the Captain and every crew member I met. I felt like royalty. The only thing that would have made this cruise better for me would be to have an extra day in each port. So much to do in so little time. I did notice that people had to wait a long time for elevators and that seating in the Piazza area was quite limited at times. I personally am still able to take the stairs and did so most of the time. Thanks to using the stairs (and the exercise room) I pigged out on the fine dining guilt free and never gained an ounce! Thank you Majestic Princess for an awesome time! Read Less

We are a younger couple who didn’t not fit the average customer for this cruise. The cruise was full with older people, didn’t really appreciate our presence. If it wasn’t the passengers giving the side eye it was the crew. They must not expect us to spend money in this way as well. We chose this cruise for port locations. Next time we would choose to travel independently. Take a flight and stay at our destination. You get more of a geninue incounter with the land and people. Select members of crew were outstanding. Food was mediocre. Crew is trained to upsell you on EVERYTHING. Ship was clean. Available time to relax was perfect. Board game/game selection was outstanding. Onboard activities can be a little repetitive and cheesy. Wasn’t any real options for our age group except for drinking- we don’t drink a lot. We adored the center ballroom which always seemed to have older couples floating across the dance floor. Read Less
