The best of NZ Fjordland is to be experienced on cruise ships. Majestic Princess is a new and beautiful ship. The cruise into the Sounds was excellent! Our balcony cabin is of standard size and is very clean. I don't believe in paid dining on cruise ships but this time we paid to dine in Harmony restaurant and it was very good. The British pub lunch however was disappointing. We chose "fish & chips" and the fish was definitely not Cod Fillet as advertised on the menu. The pizzas in Alfredo were undercooked and taken a long time to be served. I had a pasta that was still cold inside. There's a slight disappointment to see the Princess Theatre (and also Vista Gaming Lounge) designed quite small in relation to the size of the ship. There were often people left standing to watch the shows. There was a lack of overall enthusiasm from the staff and there was quite often service-without-a-smile. I have personally experienced and also witnessed this lack of service from some bar/buffet staff and also the front desk. I like Princess and am a platinum level Captain Circle member, so is my partner. However this was the first Princess cruise that we experienced impersonal and mediocre service so we would like Majestic to take this feedback on board and improve their service please. Read Less

New Zealand summer time never lets you down it was just a pity about the balcony of the cabin. The ship itself is lovely and the entertainment very good, food was hit and miss the kitchen trying to pass chicken pieces off as sweetbreads......both Grille and Harmony had good food but Le Mer was a very poor representation of French cuisine. Definitely go to the English Pub lunch at Grille it's the closest you would get to a true pommy experience the sausages are the best I have ever eaten and my wife had the steak and kidney pie with plenty of kidney we went both times it was on. Drinks are super expensive we were going to do the drink package and decided not too which worked out well just limiting how much you have to drink, cocktails nothing out of the ordinary here compared to other cruise lines. Entertainment was exceptional but to get a seat in the theatre you had to be there one hour before the show started a lot of people were disappointed. Shopping was per any ship. Embarking and disembarking were exceptional smooth we took the baggage with us when leaving the ship. Read Less

If you have young children, avoid the Aust/NZ cruise. Go to Royal Carribean instead. This ship is predominately retirees. Some of which are not very accepting of young children. You will be getting the evil eye, or rolling eye balls as soon as you kids open their mouth. Kids club was amazing though. We left the kids there most of the time. They enjoyed it. You do have to pick them up for lunch and dinner. We were a party of 3 adults between 30 - 38. There was hardly anything fun for us to do. Majority of the activities and music is catered towards the the older crowd. Buffet was terrible and lacks choice. They served the same food for 13 days!! They change the sausage from English bangers to Italian sausage on alternative days and that’s about it. Dining room menu was fantastic. Changed every day. Service was fast Service staff were all fantastic. Ship was nice and clean. Luxury brands were reasonable prices compared to what you pay outside. Basically, if you have kids or if you are young. Go elsewhere. This is not the cruise for you Read Less

Majestic Princess, Auckland to Sydney, 18 December 2018 Context: We had previously cruised on the sister ship, Regal Princess (Baltic, August 2018) We note that Majestic Princess has been specifically configured for the Chinese market, this may not be a good thing when the ship is based, albeit temporarily, in other parts of the world such as Australia. Overall: We judge “Regal” to be far superior in many respects, in particular: • “Majestic’s” roofed-in Hollywood Pool Club is nowhere near as user-friendly or relaxing as Regal’s “The Sanctuary” – which is open to the air. There was always an overpowering aroma of chlorine in the Hollywood Pool Club – possibly attributable to the lack of ventilation. • Regal’s main dining menu selection, food quality and service was significantly superior to that on offer throughout the cruise on Majestic. On the final night of the Majestic cruise the main course had only four items – no meat or fish, one game dish. Table service was indifferent: it was not unusual to have to wait up to half an hour after being seated for menus to be presented. We were disappointed at the very ordinary standard of the Christmas Dinner. This was not four or five star dining. • Even though passenger counts were very similar, “Majestic” always seemed to be very crowded, no matter which part of the ship you were in. It does need to be said that some other dining options on “Majestic” were of a good standard, in particular the lunch buffet, Alfredo’s Italian, and the “English Pub lunch” that was offered twice during the cruise in the Crown Grill. Room service was consistently prompt. Entertainment: Without exception, the stage performances on Regal Princess were exceptional. Not so on her sister ship. The first production show on “Majestic” – “Viera” – was entertaining. Regretably, this standard was not maintained at other performances, with the exception of that by a featured solo artist, singer Will Martin. The “tribute show” to the iconic band “Queen” was a disgrace in every respect, so much so that guests (including ourselves) began leaving the theatre soon after the performance started. The sound was overly loud to the point of being painful – patrons were observed covering their ears and removing their hearing aids: all in all we judged this show to be an insult to the memory of Freddie Mercury. Censorship of the internet: After buying an internet package we discovered that access to some websites was being blocked. In particular we could not access websites operated by two New Zealand Government agencies – The New Zealand Racing Board and the Lotteries Commission. (At this point the ship was actually in New Zealand waters) This was taken up with the internet manager on board, who claimed the ship had the right to block any access it pleased – and asserted that this was outlined in his briefing on internet use (presented on the first day) and in the conditions when signing up for the service. We absolutely reject those claims; he did not and they were not! When pressed further he became somewhat more aggressive and said that if we didn’t like it, that was just too bad! He refused a part-refund of the cost of the package. We suggested to him that the reason for this censorship was to eliminate any form of competition for the ship’s on-board casino and other gambling options. He did not refute this. We fully accept that the ship (or any other internet service provider) should take steps to control access to websites that might be objectionable or illegal. This was not the case here – the sites were completely legal and legitimate. These comments have been referred to Princess via our travel agent. We have not had the courtesy of a response. Read Less

Overall the cruise was ok, it was a Christmas holiday cruise. The service was poor, the food was of a poor quality with the same items repeated every few days. The specialty French Restaurant La Met was amazing, the steakhouse, Crown Grill was extremely disappointing! I would have to say that overall the entertainment was limited and quite lame - unless you like to dance in the Piazza or attend some limited time jewellery sales pitch!, which seemed to be the only thing promoted each day. While there were some great staff onboard, the majority were uninterested and couldn’t be bothered. The Marketplace essentially served as a staff canteen in the evenings. The ship however was super clean and well kept, as expected given it’s just a year old. The skywalk was cool for the first few days but after that it got a little boring and didn’t seem to have a purpose. They should have put an extra lift or two in because there certainly isn’t enough! Found ship hard to move around, to many pinch points for the number of people moving through, can't walk around ship on any level. Dining Service was slow and unfinished. Entertainment was all at once, seems to stop everyone doing everything as not nearly enough space for everyone.Cabin was suitable for our needs, Hollywood area was good, but with no open air smelt of chlorine which upset my nasal issues. Wave bar aft was nice but you had to get a spot out of the wind. Activities seemed to be set up in walking areas in atrium as not enough spaces around the ship so you had to go around the atrium with hundreds of others.staff were mostly friendly but had some experiences with some that were not so great. Embarkation & did embarkation was a breeze, even on tender ports things went smoothly. This ship you will either like or dislike. Read Less

We decided on a pre Christmas cruise from Sydney to Auckland for two reasons. One we really needed a break from all that was happening at home and two we had coffee cards that were expiring on 31 December. We have family in Sydney so that meant we could have a leisurely start to our break. The itinerary was good even though we had been to all ports except Hobart before. Hobart was uncharted territory so for us this only increased the attractiveness of the cruise. The embarkation went very smoothly with no hold ups. The staggered times was definitely a good idea. We actually arrived a little later than the time specified so that could have helped as well. Our cabin was everything we hoped for. We went for a partially obstructed balcony and found that while looking across the life craft was a little annoying it didn't impede our view all that much. So when we went into the Fiordland National Park we were well able to see Mitre Peak in Milford Sound and most of the other interesting places mentioned from our balcony. The weather was amazing, no rough seas crossing the Tasman and no problem getting into some of the more tricky ports, including Akaroa. We did a privately organised tour in Dunedin. The tour operator was "Book A Tour" and we saw all the sights we had promised we would including Larnach Castle. The cruise itself was great. The entertainment was excellent, no disappointments. Our only criticism was of our dining experience. Unfortunately the meals were most of the time only lukewarm. The waiters were quite slow which didn't help. Also the senior waiter seemed to think that it was more important to hat to one couple while the rest of us waited, a little impatiently at times, for our meals. The experience was improved when the junior waiter took it upon himself to go ahead and serve the remaining people. It certainly soured our experience. It should be noted that the only two meals that were hot came in the pizzeria and at the Plowman's Lunch. Majestic Princess is a beautiful ship and certainly had everything we could need. However it still seems to be catering for an Asian clientele. This did have its drawbacks but it wouldn't put us off going on it again. Read Less

cabin great ,staff great, food average ,shore excursions way over the top in price ,cant walk around the whole ship on any deck its designed different ,was upset that we could not see the fjords in new zealand because it was rough apparently, but was not happy to here a much smaller ship P and O explorer was able to go there when we should have been there . any one wanting to go really do your homework on the excursions better off booking on shore or private before you go . found the food in the buffet average and was the same most days ...the times we dined in the dining rooms the food was ok the bakery was great the cakes etc were very nice....they make a fortune on bingo and of course the jackpot went off on last day as all the ships do they were a tad cheaper to play then royal caribbean . our cabin was alweays kept very clean and well looked after fresh towels etc everyday .i would suggest to check account every day as one day there was an extra four drinks on there that we did not have to the vale of 34 au dollars .....they were very good on giving us a refund ...but best to check and keep record of what you purchase . also when you order your wine etc if you are an aussie make sure you ask for aussie wine ...they tried to give me some chardonay from america it was like drinking chemicals took it back ...so you have to be quite clear to ask for aussie wines .to round this off i can only compare with one other cruise we booked this one because of all the hype about it ...yes its fairly new ,yes its a lovely ship ,but seriously our cheaper cruise was just if not better then this one ....will i book with princess if we go on another proberly not . We sailed the Australia/New Zealand cruise on the Diamond Princess in 2010 and returned to experience the Majestic Princess. Most of our 24 Princess cruises have been on their Grand Class ships including the Diamond, Star, Emerald, etc. Our first Princess cruise was with a dance group on the Diamond princess to Alaska. What we liked were the three wood dance floors on the Promenade level in the Explorers Lounge, Crown Grill, and Club Fusion. There was a Rock or Western band and a trio playing every night and they were flexible playing a variety of music. Princess has been getting more and more away from the dance floors and music and now caters to more senior travelers. The main place to dance on the Majestic was in the atrium with it's acrylic floor. We were with a dance group again an were very disappointed. Food in the main dining room was bland the first few nights, but several meals were better later in the cruise. Our group thought the bland food was because Aussies and New Zealanders like it that way. Service in main dining room was excellent. My favorites were the lobster and pawns and diver scallops. The buffet was mediocre. A few asian dishes made lunch more enjoyable. Where the old Trident Grill was located they have a new Lobster Bar (costs extra) and they also served hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Where the old Pizza Bar was located there is a new Noodle Bar. Won Ton Noodles, Miso Ramen, and a special is served daily. I enjoyed it. We only ate at one specialty restaurant. Actually it was Crab Shack in the back of the buffet. Our King Crab was really good. The production shows were much better than the ones on the Emerald Princess in December. The singers and dancers were very good. Embarkation and disembarkation were excellent. Read Less

The Princess Majestic is a beautiful ship that has amazing stabilisers. What was considered high seas, I personally thought were barely noticeable. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful except for one restaurant - The Alfreado - The food there was amazing but the service staff were continually rude, abrupt and I do not remember once a smile from them. I had hoped that it was a busy night the first night but on one of the night we were only one of two tables in the restaurant (the last night of cruise). This poor level of service was experienced on 4 different occasions. One occassion it took 1 hour for order to be taken and an hour and half before only half order was delivered. The two members of my group left after this time. On all occasions we were all made to feel very uncomfortable if not for the amazing food we would have not gone back. To this day we have no idea on why they hated us...and yes that it what it felt like every time from the very first time we sat down. I had a very special birthday dinner in the Bar and Grill and would like to say that we were all made to feel very special and spoilt with the wonderful service and amazing food! I had special request to have a picture of my son (who has passed) and a specific colour balloon on the table. Every detail to the night was caring assured and carried out to a very fine detail.. such a beautiful night. My stateroom attendant was also amazing in assisting me in coordinating my travel companions... mostly my two other young adult children. Our rooms were beautiful and he was so caring and approachable we felt blessed to have had him allocated to us. Where the entertainment was beautiful it was engineered for a much older age group which was a little disappointing and at times unfortunately we were made to feel like we were intruding even though my travel companions were in the age group of the early 50's. I would also suggest a more descriptive fact sheet or something that outlines how money will be monitored. I found it very confusing and I was well aware that I was not alone in this as I overheard many a passenger complaining and expressing confusion at the front desk. The destination was amazing but at the age of 50 and spending approx. $9000 on a family holiday with friends spending approximately $6000 as well to be able to travel on a beautiful ship, it was at times not nice to be looked down upon by some deck staff and dining staff (The alfreado). I am not sure if I would like to travel on another princess cruise ship for this reason although I do realise they were the minority it was still a sour part of our magical holiday which I did not appreciate thus the average rating.
