We were pleasant surprised by the staff, the service and the food at the Zuiderdam.
The food was very good, and they had a good selection daily. We also ate at the Pinnacle Grill and it was as always an excellent choice. I haven't cruised with Holland America since 2006, so I hardly knew what to expect this year. Meanwhile, I had cruised with Royal Caribbean, Princess, MSC and Celebrity, with the latter being my favorite. However, the Nieuw Amsterdam is my new favorite and HAL is my current favorite cruise line.

We have cruised HAL many times. After this cruise we both noted that service and shipboard life have slipped.

We had heard that the food on the Holland cruises was very good. Check. Lots of options, beautifully presented and spot-on services in the dining rooms. We were fortunate to have a waitstaff that was extraordinary - attentive, of good cheer, and always trying to please.

My wife and I along with our two sons booked two cabins on this ship. When we first got aboard, the ship seems to be at least 10 years out of date. It is musty and even dank in come places. The buffet on the ninth deck was mediocre and it seemed at times to be like feeding the pigs. It was every man for him/her self.
