Just returned from the inaugural 11-night voyage on the Disney Wonder. What an excellent experience! From the beginning pick up at the airport until we were deposited at the airport for our return, it was a seamless and stress-free trip.
All you must do is put your Disney luggage tags on your baggage (at your home) and when you arrive in Orlando you go to the Disney counter at the end of the terminal and "sign" in. You don't have to hustle bags at all. They're waiting for you on the ship! You're then shown to the waiting motorcoaches where you embark and ride the 45 minutes or so to the port. Our driver was courteous and had a Disney tape ready for us to see. After it had finished he gave us an informal "tour" of the area as we drove.
Embarkation was typical. Past cruisers in one line, first timers in another; but it was orderly and fairly quick. Then through "Mickey's head" and onto the ship. Each passenger is greeted and announced, via microphone, to everyone in the lobby and taken aside and briefed about the ship. What fun that was!
The ship is remarkable. There is NO bleed-over in the three different deck areas and pools. Children have a wide assortment of fresh fruits as well as the standard hamburger/hot dogs as well as chicken tenders and fish sandwiches at Goofy's Pool and Scoops (the ice cream and fresh fruit bar). In the Beach Blanket Buffet there is a children's line featuring mac and cheese, broccoli, corn, chicken tenders, french fires chips, etc. All pretty "kid-friendly". AND, all soft drinks, juices and the like are in dispensers in different areas and are free. That's a $1,000,000 decision Disney has made for their guests. Each area has it's own music and activities and the Quite Cove adults only area IS. Adults 18 and over are the only folks there....no "accidental" children and a very enjoyable place for swimming, reading or just enjoying the ship.
The children are all "in the program" and they are connected to their parents by pager. Of course you see children in the dining areas and the pool areas, but they are kept so busy and occupied that we hardly realized they were there!
Entertainment was fantastic! It's Disney, after all. The movie schedule featured most of Disney's animation films and first run films....Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man' Chest, for example as well as several others.
Service is AMAZING!!! It was as good as any premium cruise I've been on if not better. The entire crew from Captain Henry to the deck hands smile and greet you no matter where they are or what they're doing.
Castaway Cay is the best private island I've experienced. Not only are the areas organized, clean and spacious, but there is even an adults only beach area. The food was good....hamburgers, hot dogs, roasted chicken, bar-b-que ribs, corn, beans, different salads, and of course free drinks.
This is a cruise I heartily recommend IF you want an exceptional experience, whether or not you have children. We, by the way, DID NOT have children with us and had a fabulous time.
