We tried to do the island on our own. We were hassled by MANY cab drivers and guides. You can walk to town, but have to get past all the pushy people. We did negotiate a good price for a one hour tour, but were always taken to tourist spots and hassled again by many vendors...I would recommend booking a tour than venturing out on your own.We did finally take a BUS with the locals to soufire which was CHEAP, but a long drive. There we walked 10 min to the gardens and waterfall and then walk and BUS back to ship. All that cost less than $10 each, but took some research and patience and asking locals for assistance. It worked, but wouldn't be for everyone. The buses are on no time schedule and leave when FULL...in a pinch pay the extra $2-$4 for the vacant seat. It was fun to travel as a local, but depends on your sense of adventure.

St. Lucia

Small beach only a $2-$3 ride away from our ships spot...but there are two docks.

The only port that had multiple ships in port with ours. Glad we went early in the season. St Thomas can host 6 ships a day...We got off the ship and went to the taxi station and observed. We grabbed and open air 'van' for a 2-3 hour tour of the sights. It was a decent tour and hit the highlights. He dropped us off at the be each at the end and we spent the rest of the time just relaxing.

Our favorite island. We took a popular tour you will find on recommended sites. We were treated well with snorkeling, swimming into a waterfall and then hiking to the hot springs. Views were great. The snorkeling was very good. We were broken into groups of 8, so it worked well. W

We joined a catamaran tour and were treated well. We did two snorkeling sites...one with the turtles which was fun. Also treated to lunch and all you could eat and drink. Just a nice day other than our only rainy day...but didn't ruin it.

I arranged a private tour and got 3 other couple to join from these message boards and it worked out very well. We arranged a great guide that was recommended in here and she was wonderful. We toured the island at our own pace. We were never stopped at tourist traps and high pressure sales areas. We enjoyed the beach, the city for a quick lunch, and other sites. We odd stop at maho to see the planes, too. I enjoyed it, but read up on it first...were some issues on other tours.

If you don't like long corridors and easy access...6th floor is a decent spot.

The specialty restaurants were very good, but cost more.It was inside due to lay out, but top decks were good.
