Although we have taken over 40 cruises, this was our first on Holland America and we would certainly cruise with them again. The crew and other passengers were the friendliest we have ever encountered and service and food were excellent. The ships decor (especially the horrific mausoleum type clock tower in the atrium) was not particularly to my taste, but this did not detract from our favourable overall impression of the ship.
We took just two HA excursions one to Borobudur Temple and one to Komodo Island to see the dragons - both were good despite our coach breaking down on the trip to Borobudur. At all other ports we took local taxis - and saved ourselves quite alot of money in comparison with the ship's excursions.
Variety and quality of food in the Lido Buffet was excellent and our only criticism is that this was only available until 2pm so if you were late coming back from shore this facility had closed, although to be fair there were always burgers, hot dogs, pizza and a Mexican selection available on deck so there really was nothing to complain about. It also closed at 8 pm for dinner so as we are usually late diners we always ended up eating in the main restaurant - also excellent in terms of quality and variety so not exactly a hardship.
Cabin was a reasonable size and well appointed with fresh fruit available daily if required. Bathroom was large in comparison with other ships with a good size shower.
