The Viking river cruise through much of The Netherlands and northern Belgium was highly scenic, insightful and fun. In addition to visiting typical tourist destinations, we also had a sampling of some "off the beaten path" towns, and special experiences, such as a home visit with a Dutch family. I highly recommend either a pre-cruise or post-cruise add on to provide more leisure time in the Amsterdam area, or perhaps a visit to a nearby city, such as The Hague.

In addition to the regular cruise itinerary, you are free to follow your particular interests. World War II veterans are interested in war-related sites. Art lovers and history buffs find much to fascinate them--the optional trip to the Kroller-Muller Museum with its wonderful collection of Van Gogh's was a special surprise.

My wife and I had chosen this particular cruise in hopes of seeing Holland's famous tulips in full bloom. We were not disappointed. The day we spent at the Keukenhof Gardens was the highlight of the trip. The flowers were in full bloom and the sunlight was fantastic. We also enjoyed Het Loo Paleis, the Dutch Versailles, as well Antwerp and Bruges in Belgium.

Cabin Review

Cabin Veranda A

The cabin was very well arranged and organized. There was a place for everything (our clothes in drawers and the closet, our suitcases under the bed). Although we did not use the balcony much due to the chilly weather, we did enjoy sitting out there on occasion. The view from this deck was very nice. Passengers have access to many parts of the ship, including indoor and outdoor lounges, as well as the top deck, which provides a 360 degree view of the surrounds. That is a good place to follow the ship's progress through canal locks, as well as to enjoy the skylines of towns and cities.
