We were on board the Idun for 7 days. We travelled from Budapest to Nuremburg with an extra 3 day extension in Prague. Everything was so well organized. Right from the moment we stepped off the plane to our departure from Prague. There was always a representative to help you, answer questions and point you in the right direction. The ship itself was well set up. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had a little living room and balcony. When we first walked in we were a little worried about where we would put everything, but soon found that there was plenty of space. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Our meals were excellent and plentiful. We had the choice to eat in the dining room or on deck. On deck were some different options and allowed you to eat in the fresh air. The ship was very quiet so if you wanted to sleep early or take a nap that was not a worry. The excursions were run quite efficiently. You knew exactly when and where you were going and they always left right on time. Many tours were included in your package. Optional tours were available if you desired and these cost extra. Local tour guides would meet us as soon as we disembarked and they were just excellent. You didn't have to go on these tours, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't. There was always free time to explore afterwards. Plenty of information was provided on the ship by way of short, informal meeting before dinner or a newsletter that was left on your bed every night. The entertainment on board was alright, although I wouldn't say fantastic. There was a piano player that played quite regularly and he was 'okay', but not fantastic. A little more charisma would've been nice. However, the night life was quiet as so much activity occurred during the day that people tended to go to bed pretty early. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The ages on the ship varied and you had a few 40 year olds as well as people in their 50s, 60s and older. The walks are not too long, and not too strenuous. Viking is very aware of people that have mobility issues and even offer more leisurely walks if needed in several ports. They tell you that you will need really comfortable walking shoes since you do so much walking. I didn't find that necessary as it wasn't overly strenuous. However, if you do the Prague extension (or any extension) then you do a lot of walking and good comfortable shoes will be a must. Overall I was very happy with Viking Cruise Lines and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
