We didn't know what to expect- this was our first ever cruise. It was practically perfect! Only negative was a day or two of rain, but you can't blame that on Viking! They thoughtfully had large umbrellas available for us to borrow.
We had plenty of storage available in our cabin-- very well designed, so the size didn't feel "small". We booked when the cruise was almost sold out, so we had just a standard cabin available. That worked out to be no problem. We were rarely in our cabin (sleep and shower), so we wouldn't have used the balcony much anyway.
The food, wine and service: impeccable! The daily specials offered for lunch and dinner were representative of the area we were visiting. If you didn't want to try the local food, 3 other main courses were always available. The breakfast buffets were ourstanding- and if you wanted and omlette or eggs benedict, etc, they were cooked to order.
Someone really thought through the design of the cabins. lots of storage, very comfy bed. Thick, fluffy towels, high-end shampoo/conditioner/moisturizer/bath gel. We had a standard cabin (cruise was almost sold out, and that was all that was left). In the future, I would get a standard cabin again. We were in our cabin long enough to sleep and shower. If we had a balcony, we probably would not have used it anyway.
