With all the hype of the Viking River Cruise line, I expected more from the cruise. While it was relaxing, and very scenic, there wasn’t much to do on board. No exercise room, just a small walking path on the upper deck and that was not accessible for almost 3 days as it had to be closed to go under the bridges. Not to mention nowhere in their advertisement did they mentioned that we had to go through 24 lock and dams (really).

The service was poor to say the least, one night it took us 2 hours to get out dinner, and while wine, beer and soda was complementary during meals, one had to ask for refills, they waiters spoke just enough English to serve you, but please do not ask them anything out of the ordinary as they just did not understand. The food overall was very disappointed as the first night I ordered the chicken, it was like rubber, could not cut it with my knife, breakfast the French toast and pancakes were premade, tasted like cardboard.

The excursions were well planned, but would have liked more free time to explore on my own, felt very rushed and for the price of the cruise, I expected more. They should think about new ships they build in the future to include an exercise room, spa and better food.

Cabin Review

Cabin top deck
