When we asked our close friends, another couple, to join us on Viking's Romantic Danube River Cruise, we asked ourselves, "What have we done? What if they don't like it? Maybe we should have given this some more thought...." But as the day drew nearer, we were all equally excited, and when we arrived in Nuremberg and stepped on board the Viking Delling, we entered a world of fun and excitement like no other we had experienced before. To make matters even better, we immediately met up with another couple who joined our little group and became "a part of us". New BFFs!
Everything about our cruise was wonderful. We had some rain, but it didn't slow us down a bit. The Delling staff rated a "5+" in every respect. They anticipated our every need, and went above and beyond to see that it was met. We stayed in a Stateroom. A little skeptical when we signed up, but delighted to find that, although a little small, the room was designed for comfort and so quiet that you could hardly hear a knock on the door. I would stay in one again without hesitation! The staff was always cleaning and replenishing our room, but we hardly ever saw them. The food was -- what can I say? Outstanding! The chef's menu was always something new and interesting, but also included some favorite standbys as well. And then there was the buffet -- pastas, salads, breads to die for. And I haven't even gotten to the desserts yet! Combined with the conversation of good friends and friendly new faces, we couldn't believe the fun we were having just at mealtime! In fact, I kept seeing myself in the commercial..."And more fun BEING there...!
The tours were well-planned, with a choice of moderate walking or very little, and the guides were pleasant, informative, and spoke English almost like a native. The shopping was fun, the concert in Vienna was superb, and the Viennese coffee w/ a chocolate cube, in the sidewalk cafe -Oh! My! Gosh! And then there was the evening cruise around the harbor in Budapest to see the beautiful castles and huge buildings in lights reflected on the water...
The room was small but adequate, comfortable, and very well maintained.
