My wife and I sailed the Carnival Legend on the Exotic Southern Caribbean itinerary (St. Maarten/Martin, St. Lucia and St. Kitts) from February 12 - 20, 2007 out of Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), FL. The itinerary really interested us as we had never been to any of these islands. It was my fifth cruise overall and my wife's fourth. We have only sailed on Carnival - we find it is hard to beat the combination of quality and value Carnival offers.

Embarkation

We flew into Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday, Feb. 11th, the day before sailing. We had originally planned to fly in the morning of sailing, but feared that winter weather might cause problems. Plus, flying in the day before, especially when that day is a weekend day that doesn't require using additional vacation from work, allows for a much more relaxed environment on sailing day. We arrived in Ft. Lauderdale in the early evening and took a taxi to our hotel near the cruise port (Holiday Inn Express and Suites Airport/Cruise Port). The airport and cruise port are very close to each other, so if you decide to fly in the day of sailing, it won't take long to get to your ship from the airport.
