We were on the October 6-10th cruise - we have cruised several times and like the longer cruises better because of itineraries and amenities; however, we were traveling with a family new to cruising, and we chose a shorter cruise for them to try. I knew going in that the ship lacked a lot of the features that we like - ice rink, mini-golf, etc., so my expectations were low. The ship does show it age on the outside more than the inside (there is a lot of rust or heavily painted areas outside, but the inside seems clean) - you could tell the age most inside when walking down the hallways around the cabins.

I agree with the food comments - some good and some okay (some even not good). We usually love the food on Royal Caribbean. For starters (and no one has mentioned it previously, or I would have packed my own), they have changed the syrup in the dining room. No one in my party of eight would even eat anything that needed syrup (that includes pancakes and french toast). When we inquired about it, we were told that it is corn syrup - it is just called breakfast syrup in the Windjammer. They said they get a lot of complaints about it. Really....I would pack a bottle of syrup, and I will in the future. Apparently, they have bought a lot of it, so it will be around for a long time. If you enjoy syrup with your breakfast, pack some just in case. Had I read this earlier, I would have. We were disappointed in the selection in the Windjammer for lunch - very few choices for picky eaters - no pizza, macaroni, regular spaghetti sauce only one day. This makes feeding picky kids hard - unless, you want to run to the back of the boat to get some sub-par pizza for them. Also, most of the food was barely warm in the dining room, but there is not much you can do about this.

Also, the better desserts and sweet treats (included except for the ice cream) are in the counter with the Ben and Jerrys and Starbucks. They have cheesecake lollipops, better cookies, and several other items available throughout the day. Plus, there is a pop machine there if you have a soda package.

Cabin Review

Royal Suite with Balcony

Cabin RS

We got a great deal and were in the Royal Suite - it was huge with almost 1,300 square feet. Our room attendant, Anderson, was amazing. He was always around - even though, he had 8 suites to take care of. Because it is a small ship, you don't get as many perks as the bigger ships. We were invited to a special officer breakfast in Chops one morning, we jumped the line to get on the tender boat (even though, we got on the same boat as we would have if we had waited), there was special seating in the theater (but there were plenty of seats), and a few other things. The concierge lounge is nice with some different appetizers (but who needs more food?). Our problem with the room is that the Windjammer was right above us, and we couldn't sleep soundly during the night because of the cleaning that they do. The first night we inquired, and we continued to be interrupted by the security at our door to tell us what was going on and phone calls from the front desk explaining it again.
