We are in our 50s and from the Midwest. We try to take a cruise in the late Winter/early Spring every year. Having lived in California for a long time, it was a homecoming of sorts going on this cruise.

In order to meet up with some family in LA, we traveled into LA on Thursday, rented a car and drove to the Double Tree in San Pedro. The Double Tree was very nice and recommended.

Friday, we met up with family and friends and did the TCM movie tour in LA. It was a great time. You can rent a car at Enterprise at LAX and drop it near the port. Simple.

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MA

This was our first mini-suite, and really enjoyed it. Plenty of room to move around and relax, and the full size tub/shower is really appreciated. The two televisions are a nice feature, and there was plenty of storage space for our stuff. We would do this again.

Port Reviews

San Francisco

We rented a car and drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, across the City, down the coast to the Peninsula, had lunch with family, drove back up 101, visited Coit Tower, returned the car, then took cable car to Nob Hill, Union Square. Walked through Financial District through Chinatown. Dinner at Fog City Diner.

Ensenada

This was the only Mexican port on this cruise. Nothing but preying vendors. Dirty, unpleasant in the extreme. No reason to visit this port -- the ship cruised at 10 knots for most of the week, so could have done Cabo or Mazatlan.

San Diego

Did the City trolley. Good overview of the City, and very convenient. Returned at did the USS Midway tour, which was absolutely fantastic. That is highly recommended -- and was very convenient.
