It was an enjoyable springtime cruise to a destination we were already familiar with. This was our 12th cruise so we had some previous experience to draw on. As we live in British Columbia on Salt Spring Island, situated between Victoria and Vancouver, we were pleased with the convenience of embarking and disembarking in Vancouver - no air flights and horrible airport layovers. As only one ship was in port, embarkation was quick and painless. Disembarkation was even better, as we were in the first group off the boat, looking after our own luggage. We had some special requirements for advance delivery of medical supplies, which was handled well by the crew and cabin staff. Staff were generally very efficient, professional and accommodating. Five days at sea each way was somewhat tedious but the beauty of the Islands made up for it. Our cabin (A402) was comparatively smaller than we have had on other cruise lines and the bathroom was in need of updating. Overall, the ship seemed to be in need of refitting in some areas, although many others were very well appointed. The library was disappointing; the theatre was very well equipped but would be better designed with a balcony as on some other ships, rather than all on one floor; the food service and dining rooms were well run.
Smaller than some we have had on other cruise lines. Bathroom was very small and in need of updating. Floor tile was worn & cracked. Vanity was worn. Vacuum toilet malfunctioned three times in two weeks - reset itself once and fixed by technician twice (quick response).
Cabin is below Lido deck entertainment area - frequent night-time noise of equipment being dragged across deck above. Interior walls creak often during night and moderately rough water.
Embarkation and disembarkation port. Vancouver is a great city and a must-see for anyone visiting from another part of the country. A great many attractions for before or after a cruise.
Visited Waikiki Beach for a short time, travelling there by taxi and returning by free shuttle (Hilo Hattie). Shuttle pick-up was inconvenient as it drops off at the beach but only picks up several blocks over. Had to wait nearly an hour for the shuttle. Hilo Hattie shuttle drivers were very entertaining and helpful. Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu too crowded for our taste. Would have preferred a tour to the North Shore but Polynesian Cultural Center does not operate on Sundays.
