My husband & I took our first cruise ever with Viking aboard Idun (Paris to Prague, "Cities of Light" tour). We booked the cruise as well as the flights through Viking. Although our initial "tour" information from Viking did not have our flight upgrade information, a quick call to Viking remedied that. We were a bit annoyed that our final information packet did not arrive 3 weeks before our trip was to begin as the website states, but after several calls, it did finally come 1 week before we left.
A Viking rep was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived in Paris and once she got all the passengers she had on her list, a very comfortable bus ride took us to our hotel in Paris - literally 100 yards away from the Eiffel Tower!! That was great!! The hotel was a nice, standard American-style hotel and Viking was there to help or answer any questions. We were given enough time to look quickly around Paris and the guided tour was very nice. The day after we arrived in Paris was V-E Day (Victory in Europe). All of France was celebrating as it was a national holiday -- but everything was still open (at least for tourists). The bus tour of Paris was very interesting and the bus itself was very comfortable.
To get us to the ship, we took a bus to Cochem, Germany (where we were to board our ship) which was very comfortable and the stop on the way in Luxembourg at the American Cemetery was extremely moving and impressive although our guide (and I use that term VERY loosely) was horrible and barely spoke English. Viking needs to contract with a different person!
Very nice cabin!! Liked the fact that we could put our suitcases under the bed. Bed was VERY comfortable!! Bathroom was always extremely clean!! Loved getting our daily Viking "update" in our cabin.A bigger selection of movies would have been nice to be able to watch in the evening.
Best tour guide ever!! (he was a history professor from Wales but now a German citizen) Great tour!! So historic!!!
Been to Prague before so didn't take Viking excursions.
