NCL has a great Hawaiian itinerary, especially cruising out of Kauai. Having been to Hawaii before, this was a nice way to visit. A predominantly all American crew was nice and service was great in the dining room. The steward for our balcony suite had too many cabins to tend to, so service was only fair. The cabin, and the ship in general needs to be taken off line and spiffed up. Teak rails were not gleaming, the drapes and carpet although clean, needed to be replaced, the bathroom mirror was losing its "silver" in areas and corrosion was visible.

We boarded the ship after a long day of flying from the east coast. I wouldn't do this again. A day or two earlier would be better. Upon boarding the ship, around 4 p.m., it was impossible to find any food. The buffet was closing down as they were readying to do the safety drills. I couldn't even get saltine crackers! In the future I would order a cheese or fruit tray to be delivered to the room, just in case. The passenger service desk tried to get me something from room service, but it was impossible. A ship that big should at least be able to have some crackers, pretzels or nuts for someone who boards later in the day. Couldn't get any food until after the safety drill when the dining rooms opened up.

Disembarkation was very easy, unlike our NCL ship that docked in Boston in 2011. We booked our own excursions through Roberts Hawaii and were pleased. We got good value for our money. Entertainment so, so. Food was good, we mostly eat in the dining room and avoid buffets. Dress code enforced, thank you. Good narration on cruise along the Kauai coast. What to do in port talks and other options besides NCL excursions were freely offered. Both women were native Hawaiians and were super. Lei weaving class excellent, buy the extra ribbon they offer on board it's a deal. I get many complements on my lei. Tendering handling efficiently. We picked NCL to avoid Princess ocean crossing due to sea sickness issues. This was a calm cruise.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin was just okay. Bathroom very small, shower tiny. Closet just okay. We book mini suites now for increased bathroom size, better storage and larger vanity. Smallish balcony.

Port Reviews

Kona (Kailua Bay)

We relaxes, mealies around town on our own and relaxed at the beach and swan wishing view of the ship.
