My sister and I did the River of Gold itinerary in Portugal's Douro River valley. I enjoyed the smaller ship designed for the river as at 108 passengers it was a nice size - not too small and certainly not too many. The crew was exceptional; I can't say enough about how they took care of every minor request or need and remembered details of each passenger's likes and dislikes. The room was small but had enough space to be comfortable and the bathroom was a good size and had plenty of shelf space which is saying a lot for two women! The excursions were very interesting. This itinerary involves a fair bit of time on buses and there aren't cities built right along the river as there are in so many other countries where Viking sails. There's a small pool - kind of a plunge pool - on the sun deck and that was a real delight and unexpected! The chef was excellent - probably the best cuisine I've experienced on a cruise.
Spotless, well-lighted. comfortable and with a lovely small balcony.
Very enjoyable, covered the highlights and gave us some free time
View All 45 City Tour ReviewsI never knew anything about how port was made before so the tour of the Sandeman company and trying their products was very interesting.
View All 34 Port Wine Tasting ReviewsWould have liked more time to explore but what we did was very good. It's a hard area for a lot of people to walk because of hills and cobblestones so I suspect that's why we had such a short walk.
View All 8 Alfama Quarter ReviewsVery thorough and enjoyable. I particularly liked the optional outing to the National Tile Museum
