We took the European Sojourn, departing Amsterdam on August 19th, 2015. Supposed to be on the Embla, but, low water on the Danube prevented it from getting back up to Amsterdam. So, we departed on the Viking Lif from Rotterdam. Sail Amsterdam 2015 prevented us from departing from the original port.
Our entire trip was not as planned, but it was because of low water on the Danube, so not Viking's fault. They dealt with the issue pretty well, but as a result we experienced three ships when we should have only been on the Embla.
Without question, the Aegir was the best of the three, Lif was a very close second and the Embla was in a distant third. My comments are mainly addressed to the staff that interact with the passengers.
The cabins are all pretty much the same, although some have the verandas. A couple that traveled with us had one and we did not. They did not make much use of their veranda. When the ship docks, there is a good chance there will be another ship on one or both sides of your ship so the veranda is useless. The public areas on the ship have great views and unless you want to avoid people, that is where you will likely be.
The bathroom is small but it works out okay, beds were comfortable, closet was small but okay too. In short, the rooms are tight but certainly not so small as to be a problem. You will spend most of your time in the public areas of the ship or on day trips off of the ship.
Tour of the old city. Very good.
Great tour of the old City including the St. Peter's Cathedral.
Great tour of the city plus a tour of the WWII Nazi sites and the Documentation Center.
