We did a Viking Danube River Cruise with two other couples in late August. The cruise was scheduled to depart from Nuremberg and finish in Budapest. We never saw either city as Viking said the water was too low. My issue is that the Viking management knew well in advance that the water was too low given the shortage of rainfall. They were very disingenuous, and should have given people a choice to reschedule. The eight day cruise became a three day cruise at best with many bus rides.

In addition, every city that we stopped at had a serious shortage of dockage space. We paid for a luxury suite with a balcony that could never be used. At every city dockage, our ship was "rafted up" with three other ships. The first boat would be tied up to the dock, the second boat was tied up horizontally to the first, and the third was tied horizontally to the second. The result was that our view from the room was directly into someone else's room on another boat with the same view during meals. The shades were consequently always drawn.

When the crew announced we would not be going to Budapest I thought their would be a passenger mutiny. Everyone was very angry. At this point we abandoned ship and booked a hotel room in Budapest at our own expense.

Cabin Review

Cabin luxury suite

Nice cabin but shades were always drawn as we were rafted up constantly next to two other boats at every port. No view. Never once used our balcony.
