Sail Date: Oct 2015
Cabin: Junior Suite

This was standard Royal Caribbean fare. We have 137 nights and it is our most frequented cruise line. The junior suite is like all others. Food in the Windjammer, edible but uninspired. We mostly eat in the specialty restaurants, Chops, Giovanni and Izumi. On this cruise we also ate at the Chef's Table which had been reduced in price from $70 down to $49 per person and included five courses with wine pairings. The wines were not what we would typically drink and in retrospect we won't partake in another Chef's Table for that reason.

What really galled me was how bad the internet was. Come on it's 2015 and unless all you wanted to do was download USA Today or read news online, you were in big trouble. Even then it took about 30 seconds to download a story. I tried and tried to get onto hotmail to check email and on two of the days I was able to finally connect, but mostly it would flash a message saying the Royal Caribbean internet could not connect to the server. I mentioned to the front desk how appalling the internet was and the reception agent quickly agreed and asked me to put it on our comments. She further stated that none of the employees use the ship internet they always get off the ship because it's so bad. Granted this is an older ship and showing a bit of age, but RCCL could easily go in and upgrade the internet system to 2015 standards. They charge $20/day! Don't even think about trying to download a YouTube video or any video clip from a news site, there isn't any chance whatsoever it will download. Having been on other ships such as Allure and Oasis where the internet wasn't a problem to use, the Serenade takes the cake. Unless it's an itinerary that we simply cannot live without, from here on out we will only be taking the newer ships with internet that works. This ship's internet sucks in a major way. Royal Caribbean knows it and they could care less.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite

Cabin JS

This is an aft corner cabin. The balcony is slightly larger than a normal junior suite, BUT there is a hoist contraption outside the balcony which is unsightly. The room is considered "limited view". We didn't mind it, but that said, some passengers would not like it. There was no mention of "limited view" on any paperwork received from RCCL, they simply said, "oh your travel agent should have told you." In this day and age, they should put a disclaimer right next to the cabin number on the reservation pages they send out that says "Limited View" in plain english.
