This was a first cruise for us; we did this so we would not have to pack and unpack. However, on the second day we were told that we might have to pack up and go to another ship. Needless to say we were not happy at all; sure enough we did have to go from the Njord to the Freja on a bus because of low river levels. we were given free drinks one night and were told we could go to Figaros wedding for free. However, we had already paid for this excursion and were supposed to be refunded the cost once we returned from our trip. I have contacted Viking several times about this refund and as of today November 2 we still have not received the refund; we returned home on Tuesday, September 22.

Also we did not expect to have to pay for several excursions that we took in addition to what was included (we found this out on the ship). We did enjoy most of the excursions, although we had some trouble understanding several local tour guides. On the whole we found the male guides easier to understand.

We found the cabins to be a little on the small side, especially the bathroom, where you could hardly move in front of the sink; at least the shower was a good size and water pressure strong. If we do another Viking River Cruise, we may book a suite instead to have a little more breathing room. The help was very good, helpful, courteous, knowledgable and willing to help wherever they could. We found all the meals to be quite good and a good variety, hot, cold, meat, fish, fruit: breakfast and lunch were always set up beautifully. We also loved our 3 day extension to Prague: what a lovely city with great food and beer

We requested 2 beds when we booked with the Viking rep: On the Njord we did have 2 beds, but when we got to our room on the Freja, there was one bed, so we had to request the beds be separated. The room layout was well thought out, but could have been larger: one of us had to step aside or between the beds to let the other person through.

lovely old abby

Passau

The old buildings are beautiful; the whole city quite lovely

Regensburg

Enjoyed meeting native Germans and speaking with them while we ate at the oldest sausage restaurant; was a beautiful day and we sat outside

Nuremberg

We were sad to see that only 10% or so of the old buildings still remained, but could definitely understand why, being Hilter's and SS headquarters. We did the WW 2 tour and had a wonderful guide, a history professor who was very knowledgable and easy to understand. We just wished we had more time in the museum; we had to get to the courthouse where the trials were held, so we had to leave. We felt like we missed a lot
