This review is way to long to tell. But I will recap .....We flew into Budapest one week early and rented a lovely apartment on the river. This turned out to be the highlight of our trip.

The Njord arrived on Friday 10/23. We boarded and asked if we could upgrade our room. The receptionist placed our name on a request list (we were the ONLY names on the list) and told us that we could check on Saturday (10/24) evening. After dinner on Saturday evening, my husband went to the desk and while waiting overheard the woman in front of him being assigned an upgrade. He assumed that there must have been a few cancellations. WRONG!

The only upgrade was given to this young woman. The Hotel Manager said that despite our being the first name on the list, he made the decision to give it to someone else. No apology:-(

The first night on the Njord was the worst night ever!! Every time either my husband or I turned in the bed were were subject to horrible creaking. We felt like we were laying on logs. NO sleep at all! After our disappointment in not getting an upgrade, we approached the receptionist to see what could be done to correct the situation. Her response, "OH, they probably forgot to connect the beds (twins to king)." Sounds like it happened before. Thankfully, the steward corrected it on day two.

Port Reviews

Budapest

We rented an apartment in Budapest for one week prior to our cruise. Loved it!!!

Vienna

National Holiday most places were closed. After the walking tour, there was little time to explore if you wanted to use the bus to return. We did a little souvenir shopping and took the subway back to the boat.

Passau

Good tour! Lots of stairs and cobblestone streets.

Regensburg

Walked around the city briefly, we had to be back on board for a quick lunch. We boarded buses for excursion to Weltenburg Abbey, and Biergarten. We met our boat in Kelheim at 6:30pm. Rushed to change for dinner (Ocktoberfest night).

Nuremberg

Lee (Program Director) arranged for two buses to take folks into town in the morning for some retail therapy. We skipped the afternoon excursions (1-5PM) so that we could pack and get ready for Captain's Dinner. We had to have bags packed and outside our cabin at 2:45AM. Would have liked to age seen more of the city:-(
