The Grand Voyage concept is a brilliant idea - spending three weeks at sea travelling to numerous countries / destinations unpacking once! Travelling from Cape Town to Venice on the MSC Opera was a lifetime experience. The entertainment on board was absolutely outstanding - catering for a more mature (in years!) audience with basically no children on board. We were basically entertained from 10h00 - 23h00 daily with a variety of activities resulting in 21 days just flying by.

A variety of shore excursions served everyone's needs and tastes, very well planned to optimize time, getting so many guests on and off the ship. The MSC has served many people well over many years. This was The Opera's last journey before it's major extension and revamp - thus the cabins were not in optimal condition - but no major issue. Dining was great - food was awesome! - variety - with country themes - made dining a memorable experience.

An excellent gym assisted in keeping the weight issue at bay - especially with all the great food.

Venice

Getting off in Venice needs good planning prior as few people are used to water transport - boats and no vehicles. Routes and rates can be very confusing. Pre-plan and book your disembarkation carefully as hours can be lost sorting this out whilst queuing at information counters.
