We cruised the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam this past December on the Viking Kara. The weather was cold and rainy as expected but we enjoyed the Christmas markets and the various tours. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We traveled by comfortable buses. The wireless headsets allowed us the freedom to listen to the guide as we wandered at times within a reasonable distance from the group.

Sailing was enjoyable despite the cold weather with clean, comfortable, efficient accommodations. The relatively small size of our ship made it easy to get to know fellow travelers. Meals and service were good and the complementary wine and beer was nice while dining.

Our cruise director Rene was a delight. He could be a late night talk show host! We enjoyed a few nights of entertainment and several local cultural talks. The entire staff was pleasant and provided exceptional service.
