Eight sunny days were enjoyed aboard Viking ships. Because of low water, we were shuttled to terrific riverboats at two great destinations: Wittenburg and Dresden. At the end of our trip, they kindly compensated for what became mainly a "land cruise" presenting rain cheques...or sunny discounts for future Viking trips. We're planning to apply these this Spring for a cruise in France!
We enjoyed the Viking hotel in sunny Berlin, exploration of intriguing Potsdam and the eight days aboard Viking ships. Their comfortable, motor coaches provided further excursions from the Elbe to several fascinating cities and natural attractions. Baroque styled Dresden was especially beautiful and interesting. From our longboat we took several walks into and around this fascinating city. Our favorite involved Zwinger Castle and its Green Vault, a museum of incomparable art work treasures.
The ships provided delicious meals and great local entertainment in the lounge. For instance, after touring Wittenburg that highlighted the life of Martin Luther, we returned to enjoy an evening that included entertainers that evoked the time of the Reformation playing Renaissance music, dancing and reenacting the lives of two prominent women. Another evening featured a violinist offering baroque to ragtime ditties. Our Czech tour co-ordinator interestingly introduced our daily destinations and spoke on Europe's Syrian immigration crises.
Our room was modern, spacious and well appointed. A cozy duvet covered a very comfortable bed mattress. Views from our balcony were terrific.
Good!
