Stayed at Marriott Tang before the cruise on Orchard Road, beautiful place. A must visit is the Gardens by the Sea at the Marina Bay Sands resort complex, and Ce La Vie restaurant on the 49 th floor with spectacular views. Also highly recommended is the Jim Thompson Thai restaurant on Demsey Hill. The Jim Thompson store is a short taxi ride from the ship dock in Khlong Toei, which is only a few miles from the center of Bangkok. This location is a big advantage over larger cruise-ships that must dock 3 hours from Bangkok.

The Nautica is beautiful, and in keeping with the Oceania tradition, this ship has the same very high quality food not found on other cruiselines. The Toscana specialty restaurant serves the best Italian meals, superior to any Italian restaurant on land. The pounded veal chop, or the osso bucco are the best we have ever eaten.

The entertainment was also excellent. Ollie Makeean from the UK, Steve Corte, and Sally Adams were wonderful. The service staff provided excellent care and attention to the passengers. The grill offers steaks, jumbo shrimp, and lobster tails every night. The dining features a brunch with spectacular displays and ice carvings.

Port Reviews

Koh Samui

Went to Tamarind Resort and Spa for a full day of massages and steam baths in a Bali-like setting. Wonderful expeience. This is the largest island in Thailand with many fine beaches and resorts.

Bangkok (Laem Chabang)

The Nautica is able to dock in Khlong Tomei which is right in the heart of Bangkok ,unlike Laem Chabang which 3 hours from Bangkok where the larger ships must stay. Hired a private guide to take us to the floating market, railroad market, and an elephant farm ride. This was the highlight of the cruise. The guide's email is rat_bkk@hotmail.com and is simply known as rat, she is wonderful and cares for you like family. she really watched over us took. She met us at the ship ramp at 6:30 AM in a very comfortable van for a full day of adventure. The trip included a long-tailed boat ride along many of the side canals. She is fluent in English, she even teaches Thai cooking, and has her own bed and breakfast.

Sihanoukville

Visited the Don Bosco training facility for poor children and orphans to work in the hotel service industry in a tuition- free certified two year program. Tour included a tour and dinner, which was a wonderful day and evening for $55. per person. The tour included a visit to a fishing village, and to a monastery , and to the beach, it was a full day.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Bus trip to the river takes 90 minutes and was the best part of the excursion. River experience and lunch were just fair. The city itself has too much traffic. The fifty story office building has an observation deck and mini clothes museum worth visiting. There are literally millions of motor scooters many with two and three family members. This is a very over-crowded city lacking mass transportation.

Hong Kong

Took a Viator tour of flower market, bird market, jade market. Stayed at the Shangri La Hotel which in my opinion is the best hotel in Hong Kong. Our room faced the Hong Kong harbor. Restaurants in the hotel are top-notch including a two star michlein chinese and a very good Japanese restaurant, and nightly live entertainment in the Lobby. A few blocks away are museums of art and science.

Singapore

A must visit is the Marina bay sands resort and shopping mall with many high-end shops and restaurants. and the Gardens by the sea (featuring a hugh glass domed fabulous display of flowers from around the world. Also Jim Thompson store is a wonderful shopping experience. Jim Thompson restaurant on Dempsey Hill offers excellent Thai food.

Hanoi

Inexpensive tour to largest cave, and included a row-boat tour of another cave. Shuttle-bus to dock was included.
