Our 5-day cruise on Disney Wonder was a fun experience for our entire family. This was our 2nd Disney cruise - but first on this particular ship.
Our stateroom was located on Deck 8 with a verandah (8512). Our family consisted of 5 people but we found our stateroom spacious for all of us. Everything in our cabin was in good working order and always well kept with the help of our steward, Shiv. His friendliness and warm smile didn't hesitate us to ask him for anything.
The itinerary of this ship during this time was unique as it was in transition to another itinerary. We started in San Juan, PR, visiting St. Kitts, Tortola, BVI, Day at Sea, Castaway Cay and then Miami, FL. What a great itinerary. All the ports were beautiful. The excursions we chose along the way were just enough to do some sight-seeing of the islands and having some beach fun. Day at sea unfortunately was not great. The waters were quite rough and it rained most of the day that didn't allow us to really enjoy relaxing out on the decks or pool areas. Out of all the cruises we have experienced, this was our first - oh well. And of course, Castaway Cay was the highlight of our cruise. Their beach areas were fantastic and surprisingly the food was very good. There's lots to do from beach fun to riding bikes to scout around the area. It was definitely a fun day for the entire family.
The food overall was unfortunately not as good as our last Disney cruise. We found the soups quite salty and the entrees lack of flavour. However, our dining servers were very accommodating, friendly and very personable. They made our dining experience positive despite the disappointment of some of our dinner meals. However, when my husband and I had a chance to eat at Palo (their adult-only restaurant) for dinner, we found our meal very delicious! We didn't have a chance to dine at Palo on the Disney Dream, so this was a very nice surprise. The extra cost is definitely worth it! Our server, Judy, was very detailed orientated and friendly.
The shows and entertainment were enjoyable. My 8-yr-old son enjoyed them. The evening shows were just over an hour long. As long as my kids enjoyed them then that's satisfactory. The Disney Wonder boat overall was fine. It might need some updating compared to the Disney Dream, but we prioritized the itinerary over the cruise ship alone.
Overall is was a fun family vacation. It's up to you on how you want to make lasting memories. This Disney cruise helped make that happen for us!
