Ruby Princess Review

Don't expect them to follow their rules for their blackjack tournament.

We went on the 10 day cruise and this was our 1st experience with Princess and this ship. We have cruised over 10 times on 4 different lines so far. The ship loading was normal for all cruise lines with no surprises. The room (inside cabin - B-328) had heavily stained carpets and desperately needed a better cleaning. the door was MUCH narrower than most we have been on and the hallways seemed also narrower than others. I have a handicap scooter that does get into most doors without a hassle and with this ship, the halls and door were almost impossible to get around when they were cleaning each day and twice a day for hours.

We entered a blackjack tournament with a $500.00 prize for the winner. While in the elimination rounds we had one entrant helping two other family members play their hand with how much to bet etc. He was doing this in English. When we objected to this, we were told by the dealer that this would be allowed for the preliminary rounds only. No coaching would be allowed for the final round. INTERESTING as we have never encountered this before. On the final round the people were told that they could not coach so they switched to their other language and kept it up for the entire round. They were warned after each hand but NEVER stopped and when objected to by other players, the dealer AND the Casino Asst.Manager refused to either MAKE them stop or disqualify the person left. This gave a huge advantage to the player as the original player had in effect 3 different people he could control to get one in the final and then two people playing one hand. This violated even THEIR stated rules at the beginning and at the start of the final round. They refused to enforce THEIR OWN rules. This is VERY disappointing as this was for a significant amount of money. The ship personnel did not want to upset the person helping the others as he was a higher number of cruises with Princess as evidenced by his card color. I hate when cheating is being done and especially when not enforced by the ship to stop it. A terrible situation.

Also we had booked a massage before the cruise and when getting on the ship, found that all passengers were given a 10% off coupon for the massage that we had ordered. We were told this could not be used as we had already been given the discount and yet it was the highest price that we paid for this massage. Again...not good at all and beware.

Port Reviews

La Paz

This stop offers very little and is there as a cheap stop for the ship I am sure just like some of the "private islands" and not worth the stop as it offers nothing that is not already offered by the much better 7 days stops.

San Diego

Always a great stop with much to see and do and going on your own is always a good choice here and you can chose your experience after getting off the ship just as easily and often less prices.

Cabo San Lucas

While we did not take an "experience" this time, we have on other trips and the zodiac whale watch trip is always excellent and mostly exciting when you get near whales which is normal in the winter months. Other experiences are also great and parasailing is another wonderful experience here where you can often seethe whales or porpoise swimming just at or below the surface as you are high above the water. You never get wet and are launched and recovered ON the parasailing boat.
