We chose Viking for the ports and excursions they offer. We have heard many horror stories of cruises that became bus tours because of low river levels, high river levels and other natural hiccups. After checking the river levels on the Danube, we were concerned there could be difficulties last summer or fall, so we chose Viking. Other cruise reviews had mentioned this happening, and Viking always had solutions. Other cruise lines just offered a bus tour of the Danube regions. As it would happen, we were also affected by low river levels, and Viking came through with flying colors. Simply change ships mid-trip. The rooms are identical, so our only duty was to pack and place our bags outside our door. A minor blimp. We were offered a complimentary opera in Vienna, and an extra (also complimentary) tour of Munich...both very much appreciated, and more than covered our inconvenience!! Nicely done!!

Both crews of the Frieda and Njord had double duty cleaning and preparing our ships midcruise but they both went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we all had a pleasant cruise, enough cannot be said for the crews of all the Viking ships, They are professionals in every way!

All our excursions were kept small, our tour guides were locals and most entertaining with plenty of local color and correct information! Again, after noticing other tour groups, we were most appreciative of our tour guides and bus drivers! Read more
