This was my "retirement vacation" after 33 years with the Fire Department. My wife and I saw the ads for Viking River cruises and said "why not?"
My wife used to book corporate travel when she worked in the corporate world, so she handled the arrangements. We decided to spend a couple of extra days in Europe on each end of the cruise, so we did 2 extra days in Amsterdam and 2 in Basel, Switzerland.
She booked the trip, and when the itinerary came in, we were a little concerned. The initial trip over, we would have flown out of Boston with a connecting flight from Keflavik, Iceland. We prefer direct flights, but this for this leg of the trip it wasn't a major concern. The return flight, however had us leaving Zurich, catching a connecting flight in Copenhagen to Keflavik and then to Boston.. it would have been total of 13 hours to get home. We inquired about getting direct flights, we got a Boston to Amesterdam flight on Delta. The return trip was from Zurich to New York/JFK with connecting flight to Boston on Delta.
Our suite was very comfortable. There was fresh fruit and bottled water every day.
A good way to see the city... hop on, hop off. You have to make sure you get to the stop on time, they shut down around 7 PM
My wife is an art history buff, she enjoyed the museum.
