Our family went on Disney's first Alaskan cruise of the season and had a great time! Our 11 year old granddaughter had a great time and met plenty of new friends at the Edge. We had veranda staterooms on the starboard side and totally enjoyed the views from the balcony sailing in both directions. As far as the food goes it was great as well in all of the restaurants. Our only complaint was with the buffets as the only place to put the tongs was back on the food as there was no place to set them otherwise. Not really the most hygienic approach. As far as hand sanitizer locations around there ship go, there were none. However, they did have a crew member at each dining entrance then entire cruise handing out wipes to everyone before they went in. But, all in all, we had a great time with no real complaints, except for one.

When we booked our cruise with Disney, they told us they didn't book international flights and that we were on our own. We thought that was strange as we always book through the cruise line so if there are airline issues and we miss the boat, the cruise insurance will get us to the next embarkation point. But, be that as it may, we wound up booking a flight from Alabama to Vancouver through Orbitz. That worked OK fling to Vancouver, but on our return flight, not so good. When we got to the Vancouver airport to check in, we found our booked seats on American Airlines had been changed and we were individually placed in seats in various seats around the plane, with none of our party of 5 sitting together anymore. We were informed because we booked through Orbitz the seat assignments we thought we had were only place holders and that we had to actually CALL American Airlines to confirm the seats before they were actually assigned to us. That was news to us and since it was a full flight, there was nothing she could do about it! It was no problem flying to Vancouver to catch the cruise because we checked in on the AA website the day before which I guess solidified the seat assignments. However, since you can only do that 24 hours in advance, we didn't do that for our return flight as we were on the cruise and since we still had those seat assignments at that time, we thought all was good. Nope. Lesson learned: only book directly with the airlines to make sure you have confirmed seats when you actually book and pay for them. We later leaned from the onboard Disney future cruise consultant that Disney does book international flights, so he had no idea why the Disney person didn't book them for us.

Having a balcony was great! With 500+ children on the cruise, it was a nice place to escape to for a little peace and quiet and to watch for whales along the way.
