It was a life long dream of my life partner to take this Grand European River cruise. After her retirement from 28 years of teaching, I decided to make her dream come true. Everything about this cruise was magical. From the longboat Viking Ingvi and it's smaller size ( about 200 guests) to the many small towns that we visited, it was a marvelous trip. The food and service were top notch. We really got to know all the crew and most of the friendly passengers. The daily excursions were well planned and completely safe. They prepared for all types of abilities. On board there were many extras such as a master glass blower showing his skills, then local German singers giving a spirited show. Then a guided tour topside as we cruised the beautiful German countryside. So many extras. We danced every night....and Wednesday was schnapps night.
The best was the friendly, courteous and outstanding staff of the Ingvi. They made it a very special 2 weeks. I highly recommend starting in Amsterdam and ending in Budapest...the excitement just builds from day 1 to day 15. Worth paying extra for a veranda to sit outside with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
One suggestion: plan one or more extra nights before and after the cruise. It helps ease the airplane/airport pain.
Szilvia was most attentive. She always knew when we were out. She was almost invisible, but her service was complete. We really liked the veranda to sit out and watch the river/countryside flow by. So peaceful.
