We took this Viking cruise on the Rhine in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a little pricey for us, but decided we would splurge a bit considering the occasion. Our decision was based on what all we saw was included in the cruise, the recommendations from friends who had been on Viking cruises in the past and the reviews we read. We were not disappointed.
We had one glitch on our cruise which was weather related and out of the control of Viking, but it was handled expertly and with full disclosure and was performed exactly as we were told it would be.
The Viking Kara is a very nice, clean and bright ship with comfortable cabins. The crew were always very friendly and helpful and the dining experience was exceptional. The daily excursions were well planned out and included some of the most incredible sights you will ever have the joy of seeing. We were on sensory overload by the time the cruise was over. The local Guides really knew their material and were excellent with their presentations. The only small complaint we had with this Viking cruise was the expectation we had after reading the Viking materials that we would see numerous windmills along the shore around Amsterdam, which was not the case. We docked and went to a single location where we saw pretty much all of the windmills there are. It was nice to see and experience, but certainly not what we had anticipated seeing.
