We have made 4 river cruises with AMA Waterways and have talked with many people who have cruised with other cruise lines. It seems all river cruise lines are very good. However, from our own experience and from discussions with others, AMA is the best. . AMA's food and service seem to be a real differentiator. However, our most recent experience was certainly exceptional.

We did a Rhine River cruise from Basel to Amsterdam this June. Due to high water the ship was unable to sail. This happens sometime, too high or too low. So we were bused to the various sites and ate and slept on the ship for 5 nights. The last two nights were too far from the ship so we stayed in a hotel in Cologne, Germany and then Amsterdam. We were treated very well but it was a disappointment not getting to cruise and having a lot of bus time. However, when we got home we got a very nice surprise from our travel agent. AMA had contacted them and gave us 100% credit towards another cruise. They certainly did not have to do that based on the agreement you sign but AMA is very concerned with Customer Service. We have heard that this is not the norm. So we will stick with AMA for our next cruise. AMA is the best in our opinion.
